- 19th World Superbike Championship
- Ducati, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Foggy Petronas
- 13 round championship
- season starts on 25 February, 2005 and finish 22 October,
2006
- Record 12th year in World Superbike championship
for Troy Corser and Pierfrancesco Chili
- FINAL YEAR FOR FOGGY PETRONAS RACING: 2006
will be the final year for Carl Fogarty's team: "We are
honoured to have been able to be a part of this exciting, challenging
and rewarding project. We always knew that building a brand new motorcycle
and to compete against the might of the more established motorcycle
manufacturers would not be easy. Nevertheless, we are proud of all our
accomplishments and to have been able to overcome all the obstacles
we faced, to come this far, is an achievement"

PRE SEASON
VIEWS BEFORE SEASON OPENER:
- BARROS' SUPERBIKE DEBUT: "I
hope to be competitive and to be able to fight for podiums and victories
... Before the Losail round (Round 1) there was only time for some
test rides in Sicily, but I was happy with the result. The bikes performed
well, the team worked hard and everyone is very enthusiastic - knowing
that they have a real chance to fight for victories and good results."
- TOSELAND SWITCHES TO HONDA:
"I've spent a lot of valuable time in pre-season getting time
on the new bike (Honda) I think we are nearly there now, largely because
of the tests at Almeria and Valencia. I'm looking forward to Qatar,
especially with the amount of improvements we have made since the
last time we tested there. If we can keep improving like we had been
doing in our most recent testing, then it's promising for the race
in Qatar."
- CHILI: "We had a very
good test at Qatar recently, even though we did not have access to
the same 2006-specification tyres as the Honda guys who tested there
in December. We worked a lot with suspension and electronics, and
at the end of three days we were quite happy. Maybe we cannot win
the championship this year, but if I can make a battle for the podium,
help my young team-mate Michel and have fun, then I will be happy."
- BAYLISS BACK ON SUPERBIKES:
"When I first left the Ducati MotoGP team I had the offer of
going back to Superbike with Ducati and at that stage I didn’t
think I wanted to go back when I had the possibility of a Honda MotoGP
ride. But after that experience then the choice to go back was obvious.
I again had a chance to be in a great team with a great machine and
a sure shot at a world title so it was an extremely easy decision
in the end. And after testing the bike and the season drawing upon
us I certainly don’t have any regrets in making that decision
... The main priority is going to be Troy Corser as he is the current
World Champion and is on a great bike, with a great team and is sure
to be consistent. He will be the main man to beat. There are going
to be a lot of other guys that will also be strong at certain tracks
like my young team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi and perhaps as many as five
other riders. With everyone on the same tyres these days it makes
it a much closer game all round. Alex Barros should also put in some
great rides I expect and could be challenging every weekend if his
race package is up to speed.”
