Suzuki Castrol
Win 2005 FIM World Endurance Championship
- after
Oschersleben 24 Hour:
- Suzuki Castrol
have won the 2005 FIM World Championship with one race left to run.
With 109 points they have an unbeatable 45 point advantage over second
placed Kawasaki Bolliger; only 25 points are available to the winner
of the Vallelunga 200 final round of the championship in September.
- The battle for
second place in the championship is still alive. Bolliger’s sister
squad Kawasaki Diablo are in third place on 48 points and Yamaha Austria
are fourth with 46 points; a win at Vallelunga for either of these teams
could give them second place overall. Only two points separate the Shell
Endurance Academy (38 points), Yamaha Phase One Endurance (37 points)
and Suzuki No Limits & RT Racing Team (36 points). The battle for
honour between Yamaha Phase One and their junior team the Shell Endurance
Academy is likely to be very intense, but Italian No Limits will be
on home ground at Vallelunga.
- Good results at
Suzuka and Oschersleben have lifted Aprilia Motociclismo Test Team to
12th place, just behind Suzuki Bridgestone Bikers Profi and only two
points ahead of Suzuki Austria Team 76. The biggest losers after Oschersleben
are Yamaha Austria and Yamaha Phase One; they slipped from second and
third in the championship to fourth and sixth respectively. 38 teams
have scored championship points so far this year, but only Suzuki Castrol,
Shell Endurance Academy and Suzuki No Limits have scored points at every
round.

PRESS RELEASE:
The World Endurance Championship is a unique and gruelling test of motorcycle
and rider power and endurance - a worldwide phenomenon that's a massive
hit with race fans, riders and teams alike. The Championship is one
of only three world road racing championships officially sanctioned
by the FIM. World Endurance races are known for their spectacular starts,
which see the riders sprint across the track to their waiting motorcycles.
Race weekends are hugely popular festivals with music and all kinds
of entertainment for spectators. Last year saw production based motorcycles
from twelve manufacturers ridden by competitors from twenty different
nations competing for overall honour, and the World Endurance Championship
is widely recognised as a route into World Superbikes (for 2004 Would
Endurance Champion Sebastien Gimbert) and MotoGP (for 2003 World Endurance
Champion James Ellison).
