RACE RESULT

TT SUPERBIKE RACE 1, JUNE 5, 2005

  • 1 John McGuinness, Yamaha R1, 6 laps, 1hr 49m 25.73s
    record av speed 125.40mph
  • 2 Adrian Archibald, Suzuki +36.3s
  • 3 Martin Finnegan
  • 4 Ian Lougher
  • 5 Raymond Porter
  • 6 Guy Martin
  • WINNER, McGUINESS: “I don’t know what to say, it’s just brilliant. It’s been quite a stressful week for one reason or another but everything came together and it was a good race. I struggled a bit after the first pit stop and got quite a bad weave down Bray Hill and another small moment at Glentramman but, apart from that, the race went to plan. Everyone has worked so hard this week and it’s an amazing feeling to take my 7th TT win and, after only being four laps last year, this feels like a ‘proper’ Superbike TT win. The boys did a great job at the pit stops so it’s a big thanks to them, Yamaha, Alastair Flanagan, Dunlop and all of our other sponsors and to get the win is absolutely terrific. It was a great race for the fans and I have to say thank you to them as well for their support all the way round the course. It’s the perfect start to the week – brilliant!”

SENIOR TT RACE, JUNE 10, 2005

  • 2 Ian Lougher, Honda +35s, 123.67mph

  • 4 Martin Finnegan, Honda
  • 5 Richard Britton, Honda
  • 6 Jun Maeda, Honda
  • 7 Jason Griffiths, Yamaha
  • 8 Ian Hutchinson, Honda
  • WINNER, McGUINESS: “It’s absolutely mega! It had been a bit of a mixed week for me, as it has for some of the other riders, and I was feeling quite nervous before the start as I knew everyone would be ‘on it’. I got stuck in from the very beginning and managed to open up a gap but then I could see from my signals that Adrian was chipping away at my lead. It’s a shame that he retired as it would have been close but I felt confident that I had a bit in reserve over the mountain and could have gone quicker if need be. The bike was spluttering a little bit at the end of the fourth lap but the lads in the pit did a great job both times and got us cleanly away. There was a lot of pressure on them but they were brilliant especially young Adam who never faltered at all. It’s a credit to everyone involved that we’ve got the two wins and it’s just a terrific package. The bike wasn’t tuned to destruction and it worked brilliantly. It was a bit of a handful over the bumps as you’d expect but the work we did with Dunlop at Castle Combe in April paid off. The only moment I had was when I did a burnout coming up the return road as I nearly ran into the fence! I really wanted to win the Joey Dunlop Trophy as I’d seen people like DJ win it so I’m chuffed as anything to finally get my hands on it – it’s going to look good in my trophy cabinet.”

2005 RIDERS:

  • include 6 times winner Ian Lougher and 3 time winners Adrian Archibald and Bruce Anstey
  • IAN LOUGHER: "The atmosphere is great, there is a real buzz, the speed, the mental preparation - it is all so different to anywhere else. It is a case of you, on your own, against the circuit and the elements. You are not forced to ride here, you do it because you want to, and because you want to enjoy it."
  • JOHN McGUINESS: "I am focussed on winning and there is talk about a 130mph lap, but for me a victory at the slowest speed necessary would suffice, though there will be some riders out there wanting to go faster."
