RULE CHANGES:

  • CHANGE TO QUALIFYING: only 1 qualifying session on Sat afternoon allowed in 2005
  • WEATHER RULE: riders will not be allowed to stop when it rains; unless White Flagged - then riders can stop and change tyres or bike
  • FUEL TANK CAPACITY REDUCED: from 24 litres to 22 litres

MAIN CHANGES:

  • Aprilia has withdrawn from MotoGP
  • Ducati switches to Bridgestone tyres
    Bridgestone is likely to supply about 7 riders in 2005
    DUCATI (C Domenicali): "... Like us, the Japanese company has been present in MotoGP for not many seasons, but it has already proved that it is capable of producing successful tyres, while simultaneously demonstrating a notable capacity for development ... I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude to Michelin ... Together with Michelin, we won 8 World Superbike Riders' titles and made our debut in MotoGP last year, winning our first race and finishing on the podium ten times"
  • Toni Elias moves up from 250cc to join Yamaha (Fortuna) team
  • Max Biaggi moves from Camel Honda to Honda factory team (Repsol)
  • Alex Barros dropped by Honda factory team (Repsol) joins Camel Honda
  • Troy Bayliss dropped by Ducati factory team joins Honda (Camel)
  • Makoto Tamada will ride for a new Honda team (Konica Minolta) with Michelin tyres
    "... It will be a very demanding season for sure but I've great motivation and feel we can get important results..."
  • Colin Edwards joins Yamaha factory team
  • Carlos Checa joins Ducati factory team
  • Nicky Hayden to stay with Honda factory team (Repsol)
  • Marco Melandri moves from Yamaha to Honda and becomes team-mate to Sete Gibernau

  • Kenny Roberts' KR Proton team to be powered by KTM engine
  • Roberto Rolfo moves up to MotoGP with Ducati satellite team (D'Antin). The team is expetected to use 2004 bike with Dunlop tyres.
