CAPIRROSI WINS BMW Loris Capirossi won a BMW 330CD car for taking "pole" in the 1 hour timed BMW Best Qualifier Award session. He donated his car to his mechanics. CAPIROSSI SETS NEW GP SPEED RECORD (IRTA TEST, MAR 15) Riding the new MotoGP Ducati, Loris Capirossi set the fastest ever speed on a GP bike:
QUOTE CAPIROSSI (DUCATI): " ...We're very pleased ... I'd like to say that whenever you have the best top speed but not the best lap time, it means that there are other bikes going around the corners faster, which means we still have some thinking to do ... It's great to be fastest on the straight, though top speed isn't so important, what I'm really happy about is the overall performance of the bike – it's very, very good – and it's getting better every day. Sure it would have been great to set the fastest lap of the day, but there are no prizes for that - except the car of course - and we were here to test as many things as possible. Honda) QUOTE BARROS, YAMAHA: " ... We had a good day today and managed to post some good lap times. Early on we concentrated on the carburettor bike and then switched over to the injected machine, progressively bringing its set up in line with the other bike. Then right at the end I had a little crash and we decided to call it a day ... Looking at the lap times you can see that they were virtually identical for the two machines. The main difference is that the injection makes the engine more linear and a little easier to ride ... " QUOTE CAPIROSSI, DUCATI: " ... Today we have tried many different set-up solutions, working on the global geometry of the bike, and tomorrow we will continue with this fine tuning.
