SEASON FINALE - ROUND 13 BRANS HATCH

LAVILLA WINS 2005 BRITISH SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

  • 2005 CHAMPION: "Fantastic, it is a great feeling but I did not expect to be standing here at the start of the season. My thanks to the team. My bike has been consistent, very good. After the summer break we raced on circuits I knew and started winning regularly, taking points back from the Hondas. I think you say Mission Complete – it has been a great year and we have finished it well"
  • RUNNER UP, KIYONARI: “I have had a hard weekend here at Brands Hatch. I won the first two races of the season over the Indy circuit but the Grand Prix track presented me with a new challenge.
  • “This was not a good event for me last year, but I have made a big improvement. The HM Plant Honda Racing CBR1000RR and Michelin tyres are an improved package and the rider has also made a slight improvement! Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to win the championship. Today’s races were very similar for me in terms of starts, lap times and final positions. They were tough events and I tried very hard to finish on the podium. Next season, I must try even harder.
  • “Overall, I would like to thank my chief technician Adrian Gorst and the rest of the HM Plant Honda Racing team. I am obviously disappointed with the final result of the championship, but I know that I didn’t lose the title on today’s performance only. I have enjoyed my second year in the British Superbike Championship and I hope to return next year. I have happy memories of my 12 wins, but the races that I failed to start and finish made all the difference in the end. I have learnt a lot in 2005 and I hope that it will make me even stronger in the future.”
  • LEON CAMIER WON THE SUPERSPORT TITLE: "It’s been a fantastic season for me and I’m so glad to have gained the title. It’s certainly taken a lot of hard work and dedication, I’ve had some great people helping and supporting me and would like to thank them all for standing by me."

FINAL ROUND 2005, October 9 - Brands Hatch - 2005 BRITISH SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

  • BEFORE ROUND:
LAVILLA: “I know the circuit well and enjoy riding it – the bike is performing well, although there is still a little work to do to have it at 100%. I am in a strong position and will be trying very hard to take the title now.”
KIYONARI: “I want to win the title; very important for me"
  • QUALIFYING: HAYDON ON POLE

2004 CHAMPION JOHN REYNOLDS WILL MISS FINAL RACE

  • He crashed heavily duriong morning practice: “I don’t know what happened to cause my crash today, but I do know I didn’t want to finish my season this way. I’m in considerable pain from my broken ribs but the medical staff have been fantastic and I am receiving the best care possible, for which I am very grateful.”

  • HAYDON: “I didn’t want my last race of the season to be a DNF but after scoring my first pole position in BSB and my first podium of the year in the opening race, I really went for it in the second outing. I was following Gregorio out of Druids when the rear end low-sided, which is a really weird way to crash. I’m not sure what happened, but am gutted as my bike felt good and I wanted another podium.
  • “Race one was great and I had to soak up a lot of pressure to take third place. That result shows the true potential of the Rizla Suzuki. Thanks to everyone in the team for a cracking weekend and a great season - I can’t wait to buy my technicians a beer this evening, they have thoroughly deserved it!”
  • RUTTER: “We’ve made good progress with the HM Plant Honda Racing CBR1000RR and I’d like to thank the team for all their help – not just this weekend, but over the past two seasons as well. I wasn’t at my best today and am still not 100 per cent fit after my big crash at Snetterton in July. They were long, demanding races and I felt the pace towards the end of each leg.
  • “This season didn’t turn out as Kiyo or I had planned, but at least we have the consolation of being the best team overall. I had a 45-point advantage going into the ninth round at Silverstone, but the second half of the season was more difficult than I could ever have imagined.”

SUPERSPORT CHAMPION: Camier Scoops British Supersport Crown

  • 19-year-old Leon Camier from Ashford, Kent was crowned the British Supersport Champion at the weekend at the final round of the series at Brands Hatch Circuit, Kent. In front of a massive 25'000 strong crowd Camier rode a strong race knowing that he needed just to finish.
  • Having been dominant for the majority of the 2005 season, gaining seven-podium positions, including four race wins the youngster certainly meant business from the start. The Padgetts Honda Rider set numerous lap records and inspired a number of people in the UK and abroad with his smooth riding style.
  • A former 125 British Champion at 15, Camier has certainly progressed through the ranks and has now achieved another goal in his ladder and a step forward at his objective of being World Champion. Being the youngest rider in the fierce Supersport Class he certainly had to have his wits about him, contending against riders who have competed at World and GP status.
  • After a start line incident Camier was forced back into 10th position but got his head down and worked his way through to sixth. A consistent season has seen the talented rider gain the British Crown and head into 2006 feeling strong and confident.
  • Plans have not been confirmed yet as to where Camier will be riding in 2006 but a decision should be made and announced in the next month. He is actively looking into personal sponsorship for the 2006 season and carrying the number ‘1’ plate should boost his prospects.
  • A delighted Camier said ‘It’s been a fantastic season for me and I’m so glad to have gained the title. It’s certainly taken a lot of hard work and dedication, I’ve had some great people helping and supporting me and would like to thank them all for standing by me. I’ll be writing a personal dedication on my website to thank all those involved. My main thanks goes to my Mum and Dad for backing me throughout my racing career and I now feel I am beginning to repay them for everything they have done for me and also the full Padgetts team for having the faith in me this season. It’s a very fierce class and it could have gone anyway all season as the quality of riders is at such a high level. I’ll be deciding my plans for next year fairly shortly I hope and whatever happens I’ll be looking forward to it.’
  • Leon will be attending the NEC Show on various days and will be hoping to announce his 2006 plans soon. For more information and to keep up-to-date check out www.leoncamier.com
