PRE SEASON QUOTES

  • Sean Emmett (Ducati): "... I’m very confident, especially after the test at Silverstone last week when I was fastest, but I know come race day it will be a different matter. It’s important we leave Silverstone with a good points haul as the next two tracks we go to are two of my favourites but I just can’t wait to get going. A double would be fantastic to get the season rolling but we’ll have to wait and see”
  • Michael Rutter (Honda): "... I want to go out there and win the championship. That's my aim after coming so close to the title in the past. I think that there are more factory bikes than ever before in the championship, so it’s going to be a highly competitive year ... The Honda feels good. There is a lot to learn. It was quite easy at first to jump on it and get down to quite a good lap time, but trying to get quicker and quicker is hard"
  • Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda): "... I’m delighted to have the chance to ride in the British Superbike Championship with such a professional team. I would like to learn a lot from riding with the other fast riders who are competing in the series. I hope that I will be able to learn about competing in the races and other aspects of the British championship from my team-mate Michael Rutter.”
  • John Reynolds (Suzuki): "... I am not going to Silverstone to make up the numbers, I am there for one reason only and that is to win races ... Our Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 is better than last year and I feel fitter and faster than ever before. It is a long season, but I still want to start with a couple of victories as I go for my third BSB title. Last year I crashed and missed the racing because of a broken collarbone, but that is history. I am more determined than ever to get racing and winning."
  • Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki): "... I really like Silverstone, it is a Yuki track. I have good memories of Silverstone and I got my first BSB podium at this circuit last year. It is a fast and flowing track and I hope that I will be fit enough to challenge in both races for the podium. I am still training very hard and my head is already winning races, now I must see if my body can keep up"
  • Tommy Hill (Yamaha): "... I’ve been given my best chance ever to race alongside the world’s top superbike riders. I have a lot to learn, not only getting to grips with the R1 at race pace but also adapting my riding style to suit the Championship ... Testing has been really excellent and the team have been brilliant ... I can’t wait to go racing.”

LAST SEASON (2003)

  • 26 year old Shane 'Shakey' Byrne won the title with 12 race wins from 24 races.
He has mobved up to MotoGP in 2004 with Aprilia.
  • Karl Harris won the Supersport championship.
