2005 AUSTRALIAN SUPERBIKE / SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP

  • 2005 CHAMPION: JOSH BROOKES AFTER WINNING BOTH THE SUPERBIKE & SUPERSPORT TITLES AT PHILLIP ISLAND (R7, NOV 13, 2005):
“I was confident that I could do the double if things fell into place this weekend, but I also knew it was going to be extremely tough. I wasn’t even sure I had won it until I got back into the pits but I knew I could do nothing less than win the second race today to have a chance. Jamie (Stauffer) did not make it easy for me that’s for sure. That was by far a harder race than anything I’ve done before.”
HONDA (Paul Free): “Everything Josh touches turns to gold. He never cracks under pressure and it has been on the cards for some time that he would become an Australian Champion. There is no doubt that he has what it takes to become a world champion.”
  • BEFORE 2005 SEASON:
  • HONDA TEAM UNCHANGED: 2004 champions - Adam “Krusty” Fergusson and his factory Honda team will remain unchanged for 2005 season. Fergusson's team-mate in both Superbikes and Supersport class will be Josh Brookes.
  • YAMAHA TEAM IN HOUSE: Yamaha Racing Team previously managed privately under Nikon Yamaha banner will be brought in-house in 2005. The factory team will be managed by John Redding.
  • BAIRD TO RIDE R6: 2001 Formula Xtreme Superbike champion Robbie Baird moves back from Kawasaki to Yamaha. He'll ride the new Yamaha YZF-R6 in Supersport class

2005 RIDERS / TEAMS

TEAM HONDA 2005
  • Adam “Krusty” Fergusson, 2004 champion
"... The Team works extremely well together and I’m happy all round. I plan to
go in as hard next year (2005) as I did this one, and do everything possible to hang on to my
    championships.”
  • Josh Brookes, age 21
"... Until the upset in WA where I was taken out, everything was going really well for me. I was leading both classes and I believe I’ll be able to do that again next season.”
  • Jason O’Halloran, age 16 - development rider
  • Paul Free (Team Manager): "... It has been an excellent working environment for everyone involved this year (2004) so it just makes sense to keep that cohesiveness going.”
  • HONDA BIKES:
    CBR1000RR ; CBR600RR
TEAM YAMAHA 2005
  • Yamaha Racing Team will be brought in-house and managed by factory Yamaha:
    Team Manager: John Redding
    Technical Manager: Kevin Marshall
    Yamaha Director: Steven Cotterell
  • Daniel Stauffer - Yamaha YZF-R1
  • Shannon Johnson - Yamaha YZF-R1
  • Robbie Baird - Yamaha YZF-R6
BAIRD: "... I’m really excited about the new year ... I’ve not ridden the 2005 model R6 yet, but I’ve read all about it and all the updates including a new front end with radial brakes and bigger throttle bodies… I’m sure it will be a weapon.’
Steven Cotterell (Yamaha): "... Robbie is an experienced rider who has already won Superbike silverware for Yamaha. The 2005 model R6 is still the most capable Supersport machine out there and I am certain that with Robbie’s skills and the backing of YRT we are well positioned to win yet another title"
