JOSH COPPINS REPORT

Coppins cleans up at the Oceania Motocross championship.

  • Captaining Team New Zealand at the annual Oceania Motocross championship held at Geelong’s Barrabool motocross circuit in Austraila, Josh Coppins swept all disciplines aboard his factory CRf450 GP machine this weekend.
  • The world number two qualified some 4 seconds faster than his closest rivals on Saturday and then went on to show absolute dominance in the Sunday race program.
  • Coppins won the first two moto’s convincingly before going bar-to-bar with fellow Kiwi team-mate Damian King in the final knock out one-on-one challenge. The ‘Superfinal’ and grand finale which combines the top 20 MX2 and top 20 MX1 riders was once again a Coppins white wash as ‘Lizzard’ took the chequered flag.
  • Unfortunately for New Zealand, it was Team Australia who managed to post higher scores to regain the Oceania Motocross championship trophy with a narrow 16 point win (Australia 327 to New Zealand 309).
  • “It’ always great to race in Australia and the amount of effort and work that has gone into this event is amazing. The track was really awesome and can be compared to any top GP circuit. ‘Horse power Hill’ impressed me the most! I don’t think my factory bike has ever gone that fast before!” explained Coppins.
  • “I’m going to spend a few more days in Australia and visit the Great Barrier Reef. I’ll be taking 10 days off before I get back into my training program for the 2006 world title. It’s been a great year and this has been a nice way to cap it off!”
