CASTROL HONDA & KRUSTY CREATE HISTORY

Adam 'Krusty' Fergusson and Honda Australia's factory road race team, Castrol Honda, have made history this weekend at Queensland Raceway by taking out both the Supersport and Superbike classes in the Shell Advance Australia Superbike Championship. This is the first time in Australian motorsport history that one man and one team have taken out a dual championship in one season. Fergusson has been in a class of his own all year on both the CBR1000RR and
CBR600RR.

This weekend at the Ipswich circuit, Fergusson finished with 307 points in the Supersport class ahead of fellow Honda rider Russell Holland, enough to secure the championship. He did the same in Superbike with 326 points, and although that leaves 76 points between himself and Shannon Johnson (Yamaha) ? a potential tie situation come the last round at Phillip Island ? the Championship has been declared due to Krusty having the most number of race wins this season.

Both rider and team are nothing short of ecstatic at this seminal achievement. On his momentous win, Adam said he is "happy beyond belief". "I knew from the minute I rode both the 600 and the 1000 late last year, we could take out this series. I've had very few dramas this season and that has all added up to a win-win situation."

"I can't tell you how good it has been working with this Team. My technician, Luke Spence and the Team Manager Paul Free are some of the most talented and professional guys in the industry. They have continued to develop these bikes and work with me to their utmost capability." "This has been a long time coming for me. I've had my career ups and downs but everything has really fallen into place now."

"I do want to thank our team sponsors who have been fantastic, as well as my family and friends who have been incredibly supportive throughout my career. I'd also like to thank Josh (Brookes) and Jason (O'Halloran) for being great team mates. It was a real shame that Josh got taken out of the series before it finished but I'm glad he's doing well and look forward to racing with him next year."

Manager Paul Free said he has had confidence in Adam since day one. "I've known this guy for a long time. We used to race together and I'd always seen him as a champion in the making. He has been extremely focused this year and has worked hard. I can't think of anyone who deserves this more."

The final round of the SAASC series will be held September 10-12 at Phillip
Island.

PRESS RELEASE BEFORE RACE: HONDA

CASTROL HONDA AIMING TO CLOSE IN ON
CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND

Fresh off testing at Queensland’s Raceway last week, Castrol Honda rider and current series leader Adam “Krusty” Fergusson has his sights set on securing both the Supersport and Superbike Championships for 2004.

Round six of the SAASC series to be held at the Ipswich circuit this weekend will prove to be an interesting one for the 29 year old Victorian with the tantalising possibility of taking out the Australian Supersport Championship. Going into the round, Fergusson has a 107.5 point lead over his nearest competitor Robbie Baird (Kawasaki), who is currently in third position. Second place holder and Fergusson’s team mate Josh Brookes was taken out of the competition with a broken pelvis when he was involved in an ugly fracas at Wanneroo in WA.

Josh is recovering well back home in Bringelly, NSW and is due to get back on the
bike before the end of the year. Over the past five rounds, Adam has finished on the Supersport podium 15 times including five wins. In addition, he has clocked the fastest qualifying times at three out of five events – an impressive effort considering this is Adam’s first time racing back in Australia in two years. Securing the Superbike title is also a reality for Fergusson who currently leads by 88 points from Yamaha’s Shannon Johnson. So far this season in the 14 premiere class races, Krusty has scored 11 podium finishes including seven wins and four pole positions.

If Fergusson wins both classes, it will be a first for Australian motorsport as well as
for Adam who has raced on his home soil, as well as in America and Europe in his
nearly ten years of professional riding. “I’m just going to go out and race like its any other day,” Adam commented. “Of course the championship is in the back of my mind, or I should say the front of my mind really, but I always go out to win regardless of the stakes.” Honda Financial Services rider Jason O’Halloran will also be riding as an entrant in the Supersport class at Queensland. After an impressive start to the season, Jason sustained injuries at Wakefield Park which have slowed him down over the last few rounds. He is on the road to recovery now, however, and is looking forward to racing at Queensland.

According to Castrol Honda Team Manager, Paul Free, “everyone on the Team is
pretty fired up about these last two rounds.” “Testing went really well last week and we now have the CBR1000RR more or less to where we want it to be. Development never stops of course, but everyone including Adam, is very happy with the way things have been going.”
