FORMULA 4000 RACING CAR

Formula 4000 has been Australia's premier open-wheel racing category since 1989. Formula 4000 cars are Australia's fastest circuit racing machines, holding outright lap records and are easily faster than a V8 Supercar. Formula 4000 cars are primarily European Formula 3000 machines

  • Chassis: Formula 4000 cars are flat bottomed carbon fibre and aluminium composite construction, conforming to FIA crash testing regulations. Using a wheelbase of approximately 109 inches, a Formula 4000 is just fractionally smaller than a Formula 1 machine. The most popular chassis is the British-built Reynard. The new generations Reynards are some of the most technologically advanced racing cars in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Engine: The production based 3.8 Litre Holden Commodore engine is the Formula 4000 series specification engine. This power plant produces 340 Horsepower at a engine management limited maximum RPM of 7000.
  • Transmission: Formula 4000 racing cars are equipped with five speed gearboxes which allow for a multitude of different ratios to be used to best suit the layout characteristics and gradients of each circuit. The latest Reynards in Australia are equipped with sequential gear boxes, thereby enabling faster gear changes with clutch use only on the down shifts.
  • Suspension: Suspension is by pushrods front and rear and is fully adjustable.
  • Tyres: Yokohama tyres are used by all competitors in the series. This controlled compound assists in maintaining close racing and reduces the cost factor for the entrants. 10 inch width at the front and 14 inch wide rear tyres provide the grip required for these ultra fast racing cars. These Yokohama tyres represent the cutting edge of high performance tyre technology where during a meeting only one set of slicks and one set of wets are allowed.
