TRANS-AM
SERIES
- The Trans-Am
Series: started in 1966
- The Trans-Am Road Racing
Series features closed-fendered, production-based, V-8-powered sports
cars, competing on permanent road courses, and temporary street
and airport circuits throughout North America. The Trans-Am Series
is America’s oldest continuously running road racing series.
- car: closed-roof
performance coupe and sedan; production based V8 powered sports
cars
- Trans-Am brand:
owned by SCCA Pro since 1966
- In 2004, the
Champcar took over the operational rights to Trans-Am series
- TRANS-AM (Executive
Director John Clagett): "... This unique sanctioning and operations
agreement allows the Trans- Am Series to have the best of both worlds
... SCCA Pro, which owns the Trans-Am brand, is an integral part
of the Series' long history, and will continue its long-standing
tradition of supplying the nation's premiere corner workers and
race-weekend staff. SCCA's 109 proud regions can continue to take
delight in being part of Trans-Am, North America's leading form
of sedan sports car racing ... The addition of Champ Car will integrate
Trans-Am with a great motorsports organization, known for its world-renowned
safety team, its top-notch technology department, as well as its
strengths in administration, insurance, public relations and marketing
... The integration also allows for greater efficiency in terms
of operations, making Trans-Am stronger, operationally speaking,
than ever before."
- CHAMPCAR (President,
Dick Eidswick): "... We are pleased to take over operations
of Trans-Am in 2004 ... The Trans-Am Series boasts a history unequaled
in North American auto racing. I think this agreement will yield
significant benefits to Trans-Am and Champ Car."
