1ST WHELDON:
"... The Klein Tools/Jim Beam car was good. I got a very
good draft to set that fast lap. Now we're just working on our race
stuff. The session we've got to focus on now is the warm-up. We've got
to make sure we've got a good car for the race. You qualify here on
your own, but you race in a pack of 22 cars, so you've got to make sure
you're ready for that. Certainly the car feels competitive. Now, we'll
just have to wait and see what happens."

PRE
RACE QUOTES
MANNING
RESIGNS WITH GANASSI
29 year British driver Darren Manning has resigned with Chip Ganassi
Racing for 2005 season. Manning joined Ganassi in late 2003 after a
season with Champcar series (Walker Racing). Before moving to US, he
competed in British F3 and won the Japanese Formula 3 championship.
He was also a test driver for Formula 1 BAR team.
MANNING: "... I'm thrilled to be returning with the Target team
for the 2005 season ... Coming to a championship team and a class organization
with a legacy for winning was an opportunity not many drivers get to
have, but Chip Ganassi and the Target team gave me that chance to prove
myself. It's given me a level of confidence and stability that I've
never known and that I can truly appreciate. The team shared their vast
and invaluable experience with me, provided a competitive car ever race
weekend, and together we have had some measure of success. This past
season was an incredible learning experience and I'm excited to be given
the chance to continue to build on the relationships I have forged here"
GANASSI: "... We are very excited to continue our relationship
with Darren who has shown this season what a talented driver he is,
how eager he is to learn and grow with our team ... He has adapted quickly
to every challenge and will certainly be an asset to the Target team
as the IRL prepares to go road racing next season. We wanted to continue
to build our relationship with Darren and look forward to a successful
season with what we feel is a strong formula for success in the coming
year "
CASTRONEVES
(PENSKE): "... Chicagoland Speedway is always challenging
which is why I enjoy racing there .. Marlboro Team Penske has struggled
a bit this year on the longer ovals, but hopefully we'll be able make
some progress and earn a good result this weekend"
KANAAN
(ANDRETTI GREEN) championship leader: "...
I'm really looking forward to racing at Chicagoland Speedway. It is
a very fast track and I expect the Team 7-Eleven car to again be very
strong. My thoughts are still to take things race by race, and I hope
to extend my points lead this weekend."
HORNISH
JR (PENSKE) winner last 2 years: "... I'm excited to go
back to Chicago ... I've always done pretty well there, so hopefully
my success at the track will continue this year. It's a great circuit
where we've always had close finishes, so I'm sure the fans are in for
quite a show."
