UNSER JR. WINS

  • Al Unser Jr. wins the saturday night Bombardier 500 race from Kannan. The margin was just 0.081 second. He won the last lap dash when the race was restarted on the penultimate lap (199/200). This is Unser Jr's 3rd IRL career win. His last win was in 2001 (St Louis)
  • Tomas Schekter started from pole and led 145 out of 200 laps but crashed out on lap 175.
  • QUOTE UNSER JR (winner): " ...I tell you, this is great ...   I was real worried about it because we thought we had a pretty good lead and I know these finishes .. ". Last year Unser Jr lost the lead on the last lap and finished second behind Jeff Ward by just 0.11 sec.
  • Michael Andretti's replacement Dan Wheldon retired after 48 laps out os 200.
