MERCEDES TEST REPORT
- Team McLaren Mercedes
completed the final test session before the start of the 2006 season
today, with Kimi Raikkonen and Pedro de la Rosa covering 940km between
them at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia, on the way to Kimi setting
the fastest time of the day.
- Kimi's programme today saw the Finn continue set-up
development work in the MP4-21 with his race engineer in preparation
for the opening Grands Prix. He completed 121 laps of the track and
topped the timesheets for the day and the week with a 1m09.416.
- Pedro began the week on Monday driving the MP4-21.
The two cars that were at the Barcelona test last week had returned
to the McLaren Technology Centre to leave for Bahrain, with chassis
one returning to testing duties at the hands of the Spaniard. A productive
day saw Pedro complete 593km in the MP4-21.
- The track was wet at the beginning of the day, from
overnight rain, and this allowed the test team and Pedro to work on
the development programme for the intermediate Michelin tyres. As the
track dried out, Pedro switched to dry tyres and concentrated on achieving
a good mileage total for the day.
- Kimi arrived in Spain on Tuesday to take over testing
with the MP4-21. The Finn covered nearly 300km at the Circuit Ricardo
Tormo, with sunny and warm weather conditions allowing the team to complete
the programme for the day.
- Alongside work with the MP4-21, the Team McLaren Mercedes
test team has also been running an interim MP4-20 to continue Michelin
development work. Gary Paffett was in the car on Monday, and covered
284km, with his running restricted to the afternoon as a result of the
wet track. Pedro then switched to the MP4-20 for the final two days
of the test, which saw the Spaniard complete 901km in total.
- Since the MP4-21 had its shakedown on Monday 23rd January,
it has completed 28 days of testing, covering around 8700km in total.
The MP4-21s will now be freighted to Bahrain for the opening Grand Prix
of the season on Sunday 12th March.
- The test team will return to the McLaren Technology
Centre and will focus on the continued car build of further MP4-21s.
The on-track test programme is currently scheduled to recommence on
Wednesday 22nd March at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.
- Kimi Raikkonen:
"We have had a productive couple of days in Valencia this
week, we had some good pace with the car today and I set the fastest
time, but testing is very different to being on the race track. The
work this week was pretty much the same as at previous tests, focusing
on the set-up of the car with my race engineer Mark Slade, alongside
some tyre selection with Michelin."
"Since we first ran the car, the test
team has worked so hard on track so that we could put as much mileage
on the MP4-21 and push the programme forward much as possible before
the first race. I have completed 11 and a half test days in the MP4-21,
and covered just over 3250km during these days."
"I am now looking forward to getting
back behind the wheel in Bahrain next week and driving the car in a
competitive environment to see where we really are performance wise."

TEST REPORT:
ALONSO: "We completed another race distance today.
The conditions were good today, because there were fewer cars running,
so we didn't have as many red flags as yesterday. This afternoon, I
worked on the tyres and I think we are making steady progress towards
some good solutions. Every
test between now and the first race will be important, but we have been
productive during each one so far, and we managed to do that again this
week."
Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: "We had a
very efficient morning, with race distances completed on each car. It
was certainly the best day we have had this week. Overall, this has
been a very positive week for us, and we have made good progress with
the programme. There has been some interesting tyre development with
Michelin as well, and we have found some interesting directions that
we need to explore further at the next tests. We will be back in action
next week in Jerez."

TEST REPORT:
ALONSO: "We had a good day today, in spite of the electrical problem
this morning. It was not really serious, and in one sense, it allowed
us to wait for the track conditions to improve because the circuit was
damp this morning. We spent the afternoon working on tyre development
with Michelin, and we were pleased with how the car performed on the
tyres."

TEST REPORT:
Team McLaren Mercedes returned to the test track today in Spain following
a three and a half week break over Christmas and New Year. Pedro
de la Rosa was joined at the Circuit de Jerez by reigning DTM Champion
Gary Paffett, who was testing for the first time since being announced
as an official Team McLaren Mercedes test driver on 21st December 2005.
- Both drivers were
running in interim MP4-20s, fitted with V10 engines. As scheduled the
team is using the V10, because engine production is focused on the FO108S
V8 for the MP4-21, which has different mountings from the one used in
the MP4-20B. The V8 on track programme will be continued once the MP4-21
starts testing. By the end of the final test in December 2005, over
6,000kms had been covered by the V8 engine.
- The programme for
the day, which will continue over the remainder of the week until Saturday,
focused on tyre development work with Michelin. Pedro had a minor software
problem on his initial installation lap, which was resolved immediately
and he continued with his programme. Both cars ran for the rest of the
day with no further electronic or mechanical issues.
- Pedro topped the
timesheets, with Gary in 13th. The Team McLaren Mercedes drivers set
times of 1m16.504 and 1m20.137 respectively, covering 167 laps and 740km
in total today.

TEST REPORT: Third day of testing this week for Scuderia Ferrari
Marlboro, at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, in southern Spain. At
the wheel of an F2005, fitted with a regulated power version of the
V10 engine, Felipe Massa completed a programme relating to Bridgestone
tyre development, which he began on Tuesday. Driving an F2004 M, Michael
Schumacher made his first appearance at this Spanish test, working on
the development of the V8 engine, in collaboration with Shell. Felipe
did 98 laps, the quickest in 1:19.059, while Michael completed 68, with
a best time of 1:18.958.

TEST REPORT: The
Renault F1 Team began its final winter test session of 2005 today at
Jerez, with Franck Montagny and Heikki Kovalainen in action for the
world champions. Running was delayed during the morning by cold circuit
temperatures, which prevented useful running until the track had warmed
up sufficiently. In spite of this, both drivers were able to make good
progress on their respective programmes, with Franck Montagny working
on tyre development for 2006 while Heikki Kovalainen worked on suspension
evolutions.

TEST REPORT: A productive final day of testing with Jacques
Villeneuve running the best lap time of the day. The Sauber C24B with
the BMW P86 V8 engine worked well and without problems all day long.
The engineers
concentrated on a tyre test programme for Michelin and gathered more
data on the BMW P86 V8. The engine ran flawlessly, and reached its mileage
around noon and therefore needed to be changed. The crew continued testing
later in the afternoon.

TEST REPORT:
The Renault F1 Team completed a busy, productive day of testing in Jerez
today, running two R25 chassis with restricted V10 engines for Franck
Montagny and Heikki Kovalainen. Montagny topped the times (1:19.453)
after a tyre testing programme, while Kovalainen was third fastest (1:19.800).
Franck completed
a morning of set-up work, developing his work from Barcelona and continuing
to make good progress on understanding chassis performance with V8 power.
Subsequently, his work focused on tyre testing for Michelin and some
brake testing.
Heikki's first test of the winter saw him acclimatize himself to the
simulated V8 power levels, prior to beginning working on set-ups. After
this, he completed a suspension development programme.
