FIA EUROPEAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
Tarquini
wins Championship
Gabriele
Tarquini driving Alfa Romeo won 2003 championship from BMW's
Jörg Müller by just 1 point. They both finished the season
with 5 wins. Andy Priaulx finished 3rd.
TARQUINI:
"... It was a fantastic season, it was very tough, but
the best memories will be the last few laps, with Tom and Jörg.
It would have been easy pushing off each other, but it was very fair,
and I would like to thank them for these laps. I wanted to win this
race, because I was maybe a little faster than Jörg, especially
in the last part of the race, but from the pits they told me slow
down, slow down, not to go for the victory but for the title, which
was much more important. It is very good to win a title after my last
one in 1994 BTCC, the only one in my career, and this victory is very
important to continue, because normally at the age of 41, people ask
you to stop racing, and I want to race again .."

ZANARDI DRIVES IN SEASON FINALE (MONZA)
Former
CART (Champcar) champion Alex Zanardi returned to racing in
a specially modified BMW 320i at Monza. Zanardi lost both his legs
after a crash at CART German GP in 2001.
ZANARDI: " ... 2 years ago I escaped death by
a whisker .. Although the situation was really bad at the time, I
set myself the goal of leading a normal life again at some time in
the future. Today, I can walk, I swim, I go skiing, and on 19 October
I will complete my vision by competing seriously in a race. I should
like to thank the entire BMW Team Italy for this fantastic opportunity
and for all the energy that has been invested in the engineering that
was necessary for me. I also have to thank the company Fadiel for
their inestimable cooperation. I believe that sometimes in life it's
difficult to regain your courage after a stroke of bad luck. If I
manage to keep pace in Monza in October, I shall have reaffirmed my
faith in myself: where ther''s a will, there's a way .."
Zanardi failed to finish in Race 1 but finished 7th in Race 2.

PRE
SEASON QUOTE:
- D
MULLER BMW): "
.. I want to become champion .. This is quite clear. I was pretty
unlucky in the second part of last season. I was often forced out
of the race and I wasn't really happy about it. But that's motor sport.
This year it will be totally different, Jorg and I want to decide
between ourselves who is going to be the new champion."
- N
LARINI (ALFA): "
.. This has to be my season ... I hope nothing will happen to spoil
it. I have been chasing the European title for three years and I have
come so close to it. So I am looking forward to the first meeting
and the whole season, because I want to get the most out of my car
and myself .."
- F GIOVANARDI
(BMW) 2002 CHAMPION: " ... This is a brand new challenge

that BMW is aiming for the European title and I want to be the one
who brings it home.."
