2005 AUSSIE RACING CHAMPIONSHIP

SEASON FINALE

R8, NOV 13, 2005, TASMANIA

RACE PREVIEW:

  • AUSSIES DO BATTLE IN APPLE ISLE DECIDER
  • The 2005 WPS Aussie Racing Cars Series will go down to the wire with the Grand Final at Tasmania’s Symmons Plains Raceway this weekend.
  • After one of the most exciting years in Aussie Racing Cars history the battle for series supremacy has come down to three main contenders Tim Monte, Sheridan Phillips and William Yarwood.
  • On form you would have to say that Westpoint’s Monte is in the box seat, after all he has won the most rounds this year and climbed his way back to the top after a disastrous first round in Adelaide. He also leads the series by five points over Pennzoil’s Phillips, with Speedy Wheels’ Yarwood just two points behind in third place.
  • Series aside there will be more than three serious contenders for the round win. VIP Petfoods’ Paul Kemal will be looking to take a hat-trick of round wins after blistering pace at both Sandown and Surfers Paradise, as well as trying to break into the top five in the series points.
  • Both Yokohama drivers Brad and James Ward, who are currently sitting fourth and fifth in the series will be hoping to secure those positions and maybe, in the case of misfortune for any of the top three, move up the series points.
  • Disappointed after their Surfers Paradise coming together, Simon Arthur and Colin Sieders will be looking for that elusive round win after coming so close in recent rounds.
  • Shane Wolki currently leads the Master Cup points by 25 points over Mark Duckworth. While Wolki looks set to take the series win he will face stiff competition from Duckworth who has won two rounds of the series himself.
  • Series points calculations:
  • Monte needs only be less than six places behind Phillips and less than nine places behind Yarwood to win the series.
  • Phillips must beat Monte by at least six places and be no more than two places behind Yarwood to win the series.
  • Yarwood needs to beat Monte by at least nine places and Phillips by at least two places to take series glory.
