“The track was fantastic. It’s really fast. The track is pretty wild and there will be plenty of action over the weekend .... I am excited about the race. This is a great little track. I would love to win for Ross and Jimmy to repay them for everything they have done for me"

  • INGALL: "This is now a very grippy race track and there are definitely going to be some quality times turned in tomorrow. I couldn't be happier with the Caltex Falcon as we didn't push overly hard and still remained competitive and managed a fair bit of consistency. But with this tremendous increase in speed some drivers may come unstuck as they did today and in racing conditions that will cause some issues. There were a few cars spearing off then bringing dirt out on the track so we'll be wary of that tomorrow."

BEFORE RACE:

NEIL CROMPTON:

  • "The most critical phase of this year's V8 Supercar Championship kicks off this weekend in New Zealand. Teams and drivers that perform well in the next 3 months will build the foundation of their own success in 2005. Why? The coming events are all about TEAM, TEAM, TEAM.
  • Yes, obviously on track performance is always critical but lets look a little beyond just the lap time and focus on how to achieve those times. Look at the calendar. NZ, Perth, Eastern Creek, China and Darwin. The schedule is gruelling. It will absolutely hammer the disorganised teams. By late June there will a handful of heroes and plenty of zeroes.
  • Careful logistical planning, maintaining a calm, methodic clinical approach. These things will assume a greater importance than at any other time in this series. Only a few teams will make it. Pukekohe offers an interesting set of problems. Big bumps, a real requirement for serious traction and grip off two of the tight second gear corners (turns 4 and 5) and two very high-speed corners (the first and last turns) that test bravery and car balance. My guess this weekend is we'll see a great stoush between Ambrose and Skaife after missing out on that tantalizing prospect in Adelaide."
