RACE REPORT:
- JASON RICHARDS,
2ND: “It’s such an amazing day –
we have been very much the underdogs and there we were taking it up
to the might of the factory Holden team. It’s the scenario you
picture as a kid to be leading Bathurst in the final stint. Jamie drove
like an absolute champion in his last stint and gave us every shot.
The team have been amazing. Since the rollover in Queensland they have
been inundated with work and the podium at Sandown was a nice way to
pay them back. Our growing pains are gone. We have cemented our place
as a serious contender in the category. Success promotes success. Our
guys have lifted to the occasion and a Bathurst podium is something
very special to share together. We had a picture perfect race. We stuck
to our strategy and the result came to us.”
- ELLERY,
3RD: “Any
step on the podium at Bathurst is special, I’m really happy to
be third and consider myself very fortunate to have been in this position
two other times ... Adam did a fantastic job, to finish the race itself
is just tough, anyone can tell you that. Qualifying wasn’t what
we wanted it to be, but we had a good start and were the team’s
backup plan and it worked out.”
- INGALL,
5TH, NEW CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER: “What a day ... I guess
today’s race really showed just how it can throw so many things
at you in space of a few hours. It is never easy handing over your car
to a co-driver, especially when the championship is on the line, but
Luke did a real solid job. I managed to pull up before the accident
on lap 144 and then got tagged right at the end. You have to wonder
where some of these guys are looking. There is no doubt that I am happy
to be leading the championship, especially heading into the last three
rounds of the season at tracks that I enjoy. Two points is not much
of a break, but it’s better than being 58 points behind which
was the case before this weekend. We just need to focus more than ever
from now on to ensure we collect the title.”
- AMBROSE,
DNF: “What do I say? – not much I guess...We had
a pretty quick car all day and really had a chance to win the race.
The balaclava deal is frustrating and confusing and really put us behind
the eight-ball. A safety car fell for us late in the race and I had
the chance to run for at least a podium. Murphy made a mistake coming
out of turn two and I had the momentum on him. He had a chance to avoid
the accident and did not. The car is in pretty ordinary shape and I
really feel for the boys who have worked so hard this weekend and now
have plenty of work to do before Indy in two weeks time. It was a luxury
to have the points break that we did heading into this race and now
we trail by a couple points to Russell. I guess we are going to have
a cracking run to the title.”
QUALIFYING:

TOP 10 SHOOT-OUT
- 1
Craig Lowndes / Muller Team Betta Electrical Ford Falcon 2m 8.59
“We are delighted as a team. The car is basically
the same as it rolled out of the transporter. Conditions
did not allow any records but the car was very good across the top of
the mountain. Being fast in qualifying and racing 1000km are totally
different things. The last half of the season has been the best for
me in the last five years and I’m not prepared to let that go.’’

Ambrose / Luff Pirtek Racing Ford Falcon +0.25
“I was conservative over the top of the mountain
because there were still some damp patches and that combined with Craig’s
driving was probably the difference"
