for latest update

RECORD WIN BY MITSUBISHI & KTM

  • CARS: 10TH WIN FOR MITSUBISHI
Mitsubishi achieved a record 5th consecutive Paris-Dakar win with defending champion Stéphane Peterhansel winning from team-mate Luc Alphand. Volkswagen of Jutta Kleinschmidt and Bruno Saby finished 3rd and 5th respectively. The Nissan of Giniel de Villiers was 4th overall. Mitsubishi's win is its 10th, becoming the most successful manufacuturer in Dakar Rally History.
PETERHANSEL (MITSUBISHI) WINNER: "... It's a big satisfaction but also a great relief. Every day was difficult and we improved regularly. I stayed focused until the end ... I have to thank my co-driver who didn't do one mistake. Because even with a good driver, the car can not win if the navigation isn't at the height of expectations ... Now that I've figured out how to win consecutive wins I will come back next year to try an beat the record. We will work all year to try and be as good."
  • BIKES: KTM 1, 2, 3, 4; 5TH CONSECUTIVE WIN FOR KTM
Cyril Despres won the bikes section followed by KTM team-mates Marc Coma, Alfie Cox and Isidre Esteve Pujol. Yamaha rider David Fretigne finished 5th.
DESPRES (KTM) WINNER: "... It was difficult to know how I would feel when I crossed this final finish line, whether the sadness (after death of KTM riders Meoni and Perez) would be greater than the happiness ... In fact the two are mixed together."
  • TRUCKS: KAMZ WINS AGAIN
Kamaz 4911 driven by Kabirov, Belyaev, Mokeev won the trucks division. This is Kamaz's 4th consecutive win.
