| FOR APPROX $240 AND A LOT OF RUNNING AROUND, MY VIVA IS NOW RUNNING EXTREMELY WELL (EXCEPT FOR THE SOON TO BE FIXED RATTLE). |
"I recently bought an ‘06 Viva (auto) and had what seems to be very common Viva /Astra problems with it - no power or acceleration, loud rattle from engine bay, loose steering and the engine cutting out. After being **** by the car yard, I found a mechanic who was able to install a new neutral switch which has fixed all but the rattle.
It turns out that the car was stuck in 3rd gear which was causing the engine to cut out. The switch had to be calibrated on Holden’s computer, which my mechanic did for free after manually calibrating it and causing me to break down again. He also informed me that Holden will be doing a recall on Viva manifolds in early September due to a software fault, which should reduce or eliminate the rattle.
If you’re car is out of warranty, they may try to charge you for the update; luckily my mechanic is doing this for free due to not calibrating the switch properly the first time. I’m considering myself very lucky that for approx $240 and a lot of running around, my Viva is now running extremely well (except for the soon to be fixed rattle)."

========== REPLY ========== The problem with the holding slipping gears is the park neutral switch, which is common on the Viva. The ticking noise is a solenoid in the inlet manifold which ticks. There is a calibration for this which will stop the noise available from Holden dealers soon mid October at latest. POSTED BY: CHRIS - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 12 SEP 2009
========== REPLY ========== I’m having a similar problem with my Holden Viva, but the car will randomly jump up to 4000 rpm. Holden replaced the transmission and tried to charge us 13k because the car was out of warranty by 4 months. After they had the car for a month it’s still doing the same thing.
Did you have the same problem? POSTED BY: ANTHONY - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 19 SEP 2009 |
