"I booked our 2007 Corolla in to hopefully get the catalytic converter replaced under warranty at around 36K kms. When I picked it up I was informed that the engine oil level was very low. Apparently there is a known oil-burning problem caused by the low friction piston rings, and that this was probably the cause of the rotten-egg gas from the exhaust.
I was told to bring it back in to have the oil checked again after 1K kms. Also, the transaxle which had started whining at about 30K kms, was deemed not bad enough at the moment to warrant further investigation.
As I don't have much confidence in Dealer "service" departments, and didn't feel like getting on the warranty "merry-go-round", I decided to trade the vehicle in at another Toyota dealer.
Maybe Toyotas are just like most things these days, and are not made like they used to be.
At least the new owner will have 12 months factory warranty."
