"HOLDEN ASTRA 0: GIVE ME A MAZDA 3 ANYDAY. - Astra... they are so good that they have their own complete section on this site! Our Business will no longer sell Astra's secondhand, due to the enormous amount of things that are wrong with them:
ABS Modules, Airbags, Water Pumps, Timing belt tensioners, SRS Modules, Ignitions, Computers, Immobilisers, Auto's, Suspension Bushes... I could go on. They are one of the worst cars around to own once they are out of warranty. I have finally convinced my Aunty to sell her 4.5 year old Astra (that I told her not to buy in the 1st place) after its second bill over $2,400.00 in the last 12 months.
Again, just another opinion, but one based on trade knowledge. Heck, even most Holden dealers won’t sell them more than 3 years old.
Give me a Mazda 3 anyday.

Mazda 3 anyday no not really, yeah have had trade experience myself as well and yes Mazda 3 may be reliable but Astra's are as well if you look after them. Me and my partner have had our CDXi since new in August 2005 and it hasn't given us one problem and that is God's honest truth. As stated on here before by me cars are mechanical and yes you do need to lift the bonnet to check them as they aren't going to check themselves.
We have now done 79,600km in our Astra and No the air con hasn't broken down and No the ignition isn't playing up and No the water pump isn't stuffed. The car just keeps on going even through a full day of driving in 48c with the air con on 6. We look after our car like it's human. I polish it and keep the oil changes done every 5000km I check all fluid levels change the spark plugs air filter, oil filter, trans fluid all myself and it's good as the day we got it.
I really think too many people expect too much out of their cars and anything can happen to a Corolla or Mazda that may happen to an Astra. Astra’s are finished off nicer and have a nice solid feel on the road. The interior in ours has held up very well with the leather wearing in nicely. I have driven a 2005 Corolla Ascent sport and it feels like jelly on the road, the Mazda not much better putting it nicely. It feels cheap when you drive it.
Mazda 3's, 6's have a paint issue, every one I pull up next to has dull paint and as I have worked in paint I can tell you the clear they are applying is not of a good quality clear or really they use a soft paint. If bird droppings get on the paint you are more likely to have acid spot's remain on the paint. The Astra has an outstanding paint finish thick and gives of a beautiful shine. Our Astra looks as good as the day we got it but I also polish it with carnuba wax every 4 months to keep it looking good and go over it with a clay bar to life any contaminants.
At the end of the day each to their own fair enough but I just prefer the Astra as its build quality feels better to me and the plastics, interior, paint all seem to be of a much higher quality than Japanese cars.
