"I cannot believe all these issues I hear about Astra’s. In all honesty I think most of you have either been ripped off and have purchased a vehicle that was neglected by its previous owner or owners and have ended up with a lemon that's been dressed up to look good but was thrashed and treated harshly in its previous ownership...
My partner and I have owned a AH Astra and it was one of the first to hit our roads. Our Astra is a CDXi breeze blue 4 door hatch and has not given us any trouble at all so far. It currently sits on 80,000km and has had the full service history as we have it serviced at its required service intervals. We have completed several long distance trips to Adelaide back and forth in it and are amazed at the fuel economy on cruise control up and back. One tank providing you fill up at a Mobil with 8000 premium unleaded will give us 845 km. Most other servo's so called premium only gives us 680 km for a full tank thus the reason we stick to Mobil for the quality.
Having owned the car since August 2005 we couldn't be happier with its reliability and comfort. The air con is excellent, handling is stiff and robust after a good 3 years of driving all over the place in different environments. I regularly apply Mothers polish and wax to protect the paint and still get comments from people as though we just purchased the car new a couple of weeks ago when in fact it's actually over 3 years old and looks immaculate. The leather seats have held up well and the interior is spotless and made of high quality plastic that hasn't faded with the sun.
We spend a lot of time caring and keeping our car maintained more so probably than your average person would but it pays off in the end as it is kept spotless and things like the oil, water levels and timing belt are visually checked every week.
We have also put Continental sport contact 2 tyres on the car as they wear and grip a lot better than the Bridgestone Turanza's. According to the book with all the car makes at the tyre outlet, Astra's were supposed to come from factory with Continental tyres. Our Bridgestone Turanza's only lasted for 47,000km. I have had the Continentals on since the others wore out and they have hardly worn and stick better in the wet although they are more expensive they are worth the extra dosh.
For anyone that's worried about a cracking sound when the electric windows are up please don't as the rubbers are still new on your Astra and need to wear in a little and you will find the noise will go away. It's only natural for everything to be tight when you buy a car... never assume...
All cars have their problems and some people are lucky and some not so lucky and end up with a lemon."
