HOLDEN ZAFIRA  2004: ENGINE PROBLEMS, RUNNING OUT OF OIL AND BLOWING THE ENGINE?

I'M A MOTOR MECHANIC, BEEN ONE FOR 16 YEARS

"Hi everyone I'm a motor mechanic, been one for 16 years. Have had a lot of experience with the Holden Zafira and they are a great car but the engines are rubbish. I have about 10 customers that have them and all use oil (even if you use Holden original oil) about 1 litre every 2000km. You need 2 check every month.

I guarantee you if you don’t check your oil or don’t service your engine for 7000km you will blow your engine. The oil runs out - oil light does not even come on - your timing chain jumps - your valves hit the pistons - and bang you need a new engine around $5000 damage. Holden knows about this problem but do nothing about it "just blame the owner for not checking oil", so I advise all you out there don’t buy one.

Thanks for reading, Adam"

Beautiful engine until it stops. The tensioner broke, the chain skipped, the pistons bumped the valves = trashed. This problem is well documented in the UK where Vauxhall regularly come to the party for out of warranty repairs. Why not The General?

Do you have a list (or is there a contact) for others in Australia with the same problem?

Cheers, Pete

Hi everyone. Yes I was one of those owners who got caught out with a blown engine for my Zafira. Now I am trying to find a new motor for it to get fixed. I did speak with my most helpful and understanding Holden Local dealership which we had current servicing for the car with them. They took no responsibility for the motor even when it had appeared to have no sump plug either.

So, if you’re going to think of buying a Zafira find out what responsibility Holden is going to take because at the moment people are paying money for nothing and the money is greasing up in Holdens pocket (punt intended). So if anyone could tell me where I can get another motor that would be most helpful.

Thanks, Fiona
