KIA CREDOS  1999: DRIVING ALONG AND ENGINE CUTS OUT
1 MAY 2008
IMMOBILIZER
*ADVICE*

WE HAVE NOW HAD THE IMMOBILIZER AND CENTRAL LOCKING DISCONNECTED

"Just wanting to pass on some information for anyone who has had a problem with their Kia's driving along and cutting out.

For the past 4 years I have had this problem and no one could fix the problem - Kia did not know, private mechanics did not know what was wrong with the car. It was so frustrating because it would cut out on the road while driving and this would happen about once a year. I would get it towed and then when it was in getting looked at they would advise that it did not do the problem again and they did not know what was wrong.

Jan 2008: car did it to me again and this time a truck nearly ran over the top of me - husband had had enough and finally went to Kia with a few ideas on what they can do to fix the car. They still did not know what the problem was and cleared the computer and what do you know it would not cut out for them.

Went away on holidays - came back and battery flat. RACQ came to replace battery and we had a chat. He said that something was draining the battery and then we got talking about the cutting out problem. He said have you had the immobilizer looked at as it might be faulty?

April 2008: car cuts out on me last week - took it into Kia and advised on what information we have been given. Finally they listened to us and we have now had the immobilizer and central locking disconnected and guess what - no draining of power from the battery and the car is driving like a dream.

Kia don't care about you or the car - I am just wanting to post some information to assist someone if they have the same problem so that you don't end up spending more money when you don't need to on Kia looking for something they know nothing about.

Hope this helps someone with engine cutting out problem - get it fixed and/or looked at if you have an immobilizer or central locking. Before someone gets killed by their car cutting out while driving and Kia not giving a stuff."

I have also had big problems with my KIA Credos from the immobiliser. Last year it stopped working and got fixed on warranty (took 3 weeks). It just happened again and took it to our local auto electrics who chased the fault back into the immobiliser where the security system prevents them finding the ultimate cause. Last time the repair costed $1,200 (thankfully covered by warranty) - can you advise how they disabled your immobiliser and central locking?

Hi
About Credos I have similar problem. Car cuts off while driving intermittently, checked at Kia dealer found code 86 Immobilizer concern. Crank ok, no start. Also in the cluster Immobilizer light goes away after 3 seconds, key on. Please let me know how to fix this? Thanks. Suresh.

Melissa,

This is Tony Lee from Sacramento, did you work in Denver? You sent me a boomerang and tie for my birthday back in 2000. I was looking at some things from the past. Write me back if it’s you.
