LANDROVER DISCOVERY SERIES1 1993: 650,000 SO FAR AND GOING STRONG

REVIEW
*GOOD NEWS*

I WILL PROBABLY KEEP REBUILDING THIS ONE FOR ANOTHER 15 YEARS.

"Bought my 1993 (Nov ‘92 build) model in April 93. Had the dealer do the first 100,000 worth of services, and have done all the routine stuff since then myself.

285000k - clutch push rod bearing failure. Put a rebuilt auto box in it, as second gear gets rattly.

410000k - forgot to do timing belt. $750 to repair and replace.

Replaced radiator eventually, new springs, bigger fuel tank. Replaced drivers seat when it wore out at about 550000k.

I change oil and filters religiously - every 10000k.

When the rear diff wore out, I put in a Maxi-drive vacuum locker. Manufactured and fitted here on the gold coast and about $500 cheaper than a standard diff and axle replacement.

The vehicle has done numerous Fraser and Moreton island trips, 2 trips to top of Cape York, and 4 Simpson Desert crossings.

Now, April 08 with 650000k, the rear door is getting a bit loose, and the air con packed it in a while ago, but I don't use it much anyway. All parts are purchased from rangie spares on Brisbane’s northside. Replacement driver seat was $250.

Everything works - window electrics, auto locking, lights, etc. I would like a newer model, but the feedback on all the computers, electrics, and warranty and service problems, mean I will probably keep rebuilding this one for another 15 years."
