HYUNDAI GETZ 1.4 2007: CAN'T START CAR. WON'T TURN OVER OR OPEN WITH AUTO KEY. *COMPLAINT* |
||
ISSUE: |
My Getz has had problems regularly since I bought it. Most of these have been blamed on "Gremlins" and no reason has been given. Today, I tried to open the car with my auto key and it wouldn't open. When I opened it manually, the alarm didn't go off and when I tried to turn the engine over, nothing happened at all. I have been trying to get on to my Hyundai dealer with no answer. The lights weren't left on and there is no obvious reason why this would be happening. |

NISSAN NAVARA SE 2009: INTERMITTENT STARTING FAULT *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
Hi, I've just bought a new Navara double cab (ex demo with 6k miles on it) off a dealer. The other day I went to start it and it took several times to get going. When it eventually did start it was off cylinders and when I gave it a bit of a rev thinking it might clear the problem the knocking noise in the engine was frightening. Also there was a lot of light blue smoke. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "TOYOTA RAV4 2001: TRANSMISSION FAILS ON 6 YEAR OLD CAR - After 6 years, and 90,000 kilometres of having my 2001 RAV4 regularly serviced by the dealer at considerable expense, the ECU (transmission computer) has faulted and caused "transmission burning clutches and contaminating internals". The repair has been quoted at $7000.00. I would like to know if this is a problem others have encountered and to warn others considering a RAV4 of this possible issue. The car has only been driven on the road under normal conditions." POSTED BY: CORRINE MARSHALL - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 27 SEP 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Just went through exactly the same problem. Our repair bill was just under $8000. I have a five door 2002 RAV4 automatic cruiser. First the car was slipping in gears. It was not a gradual thing eihter ... it just suddenly failed. Upon inspection the clutches were burnt out. The gear box was repaired and it flamed another box. I had the computer checked by Toyota and an independent specialist and no fault codes etc. indicated a problem. In the end a new computer was put in, problem solved! Basically the ECU malfunctioned causing the gear box clutches to burn out. The ECU didn't even indicate any fault codes or go into the safe mode like they are suppose to. Gear box had to come out twice and so did the engine. I got a 24 month warranty on repairs ... make sure you do as well. Will be selling **** before that though! I was lucky that the workshop I go through is owned by a friend and was not charged for the engine coming out 2 and a half times POSTED BY: SCOTT - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 24 DEC 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I have just had the same problem. Cost of repairs 4500 to $6000. I have a RAV4 2002 114.000ks. It will take 2 weeks to repair then sell. POSTED BY: LEIGH - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 5 FEB 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I have a 2001 Rav4. I took my car to the dealer for the required maintenance as I always do. I asked them to check my transmission because my car was slipping into 2nd gear. I was told that I now need an ECU because the computer is not telling the car to change gears the way it is supposed to. I see that this is a common problem, I was quoted $1500.00 for the replacement. It sounds like I need to get rid of my car. OSTED BY: ADRIAN - GA, USA 20 FEB 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I have a 2002 Rav4. Same problem. The gearbox started slipping due to the computer failure, and I have been told the repair bill will be $6500. I am not sure what to do, as I will not be getting the money back when I try to sell the car. POSTED BY: PAUL GRUNDY - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 4 MAR 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Me Too! Same thing just happened to our 2002 Rav4, 5 door. I got up one morning, started to drive to work and the gears started slipping. I took it Straight to the garage and they said the ECU needed replacing... $4000! This has to be some kind of design fault. We simply don't have the money to repair it! I can't tell you how angry I feel about this! POSTED BY: LYNN MORESI - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 1 SEP 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I have just bought a 2001 Rav cruiser auto and the gears were also slipping. This is after 2 **** days of owning it. I took it back to car yard yesterday and it is at the mechanics now while I wait for an answer. I was issued a 3 month warranty but after reading all these comments I now feel like **** and can see it is obviously a common problem! I will keep you posted to see what it ends up being. It has really **** me off. POSTED BY: JODIE B - NOWRA, NSW - AUS 19 SEP 2008 ========== REPLY ========== TOYOTA RAV 4 2001 1007,000 KM. ECU - TRANSMISSION ISSUES - I have had the same issues with the ECU as you all manifesting with the transmission suddenly slipping, literally an overnight phenomenon. I had the car checked by usual mechanic whith handheld computer diagnostics, no fault codes; however symptoms still there so stopped driving the car and started to ring around to inform myself. The answers came back thick and fast, it was as if every one could diagnose the problem without even seeing the car. They literally told me what year and model car I had after briefly describing the problems. "Change the ECU ($1700- $2100) and if you are lucky that may fix the problem, if unlucky and you drove the car without noticing in time the transmission will need replacing ($3500 -7500)" was the standard reply. After reading all the posts on web about this and speaking to dozens of independent transmission workshop Experts & Mechanics, I have contacted NRMA, Dept of fair trading, and Channel Seven and Nine regarding doing a story on their "Current Affair", & "Today Tonight" programs as there are some massive safety issues related to this situation - my wife & two young children were nearly rammed by other vehicles several times at traffic lights because of transmission suddenly slipping, the media are interested in this ! I have several experts willing to go on record and speak about this issue. Let me know if you want to form a group to bring this issue into public awareness thus encouraging Toyota to take responsibility for their products and stop sweeping this under the carpet. After my local Toyota workshop replaced the ECU ($1682) the vehicle seemed Ok, but as the transmission will not show up any fault code if it is damaged only time will tell! Confidence in the brand Toyota is now at a very low point with me. Before paying my repair bill I contacted Toyota customer relations Sydney / Taren Point / Tel: 02 9710 3333 and made a serious complaint regarding this issue and informed them of my awareness of just how widespread this issue is and how the media is interested in doing a story on this matter (in 2006 these vehicles were recalled in the USA for software upgrade a free service). Anyway they spoke to the dealer, the dealer spoke to the warranty department and lo and behold they came to the party and reduced my repair bill by $800. This is a start however I am convinced that this should be a free recall service and if transmissions are damaged due to a faulty ECU that controls it the transmission is by definition Collateral Damage for which Toyota also should be responsible and prepared to assist their loyal (till now) customers. If you have your car repaired by Toyota you could try to call customer service prior to paying your bill and hopefully this way you too can at least save some money and collectively we will eventually encourage Toyota to adjust their denial strategy about this matter. Please raise awareness about this issue & tell everyone you know! POSTED BY: RICKY STRONG - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 28 SEP 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I have just had a similar failure. Cost of repair still unknown. Is this just manifesting itself because of the age of the car and if so is this going to become a more frequent event I wonder. My local Toyota garage say that this failure is unknown by themselves and Toyota. In fact it is the first one. POSTED BY: MAURICE LUSCOMBE - READING, UNITED KINGDOM 8 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Well I got my car back after 2 weeks after a new computer was put in and a reconditioned gear box. I was so excited, but after another 2 days there was a sound like a helicopter blade going round and round in the 2 front tyres so once again back to the car yard to wait another 4 days and the wheel bearing needed replacing! I am totally over this piece of **** I have had my new car a total of 4 days out of 3 weeks and Toyota have A Lot to answer for I tell you! My local car yard have been fantastic but they have done what needed to be done no questions asked given me a loan car when by law they don’t have to. They are also out of pocket with this being that mine is still under warranty. I also thought of contacting Today Tonight or ACA over this. Some attention has to be brought to this serious Fault with this car! So fingers crossed I get this piece of **** back tomorrow! POSTED BY: JODIE B - NOWRA, NSW - AUS 9 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Is this only a problem with automatics? I'm considering buying a manual 2001 or 2000. But the one I was going to look at this weekend ia an auto. Will steer clear. I am assuming these are all auto's having this problem. Look forward to advice. POSTED BY: MICHELLE - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 13 NOV 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I have just had the same problem with my 2002 RAV4 98,000kms which I have had from new. Without any warning the auto transmission started jolting badly when put into reverse and then two days later the car was slipping gears when I was driving to work. I had it towed to my auto transmission specialist and he said this is a very common problem with the RAV4 at approx 100,000kms - he has just repaired 6 in the past few months. My ECU needs replacing and I won’t know until this is done as to whether I also will need to have the clutch replaced. Total cost $1,000 for the ECU and $2800 if it is the clutch. I hope this is the end of this! My car has always been serviced at Toyota and they never warned me about this problem. Not happy! POSTED BY: D BOYLE - CROYDON, VIC - AUS 21 JAN 2009 ========== REPLY ========== You can add another unhappy RAV4 owner to your list. Transmission completely **** on 2001 5 door Cruiser, just over $100,000kms. Quoted $7000 to repair and Toyota dealership service department said it was a common problem in the RAV. For such a common problem, why is it so expensive to repair and why hasn’t Toyota been held accountable for this debacle? POSTED BY: AYLEE - BELGRAVE, VIC - AUS 12 MAR 2009 ========== REPLY ========== 2002 Toyota Rav4 - 96,000 on the clock. Automatic transmission **** - Have lost first and fourth completely. I have been quoted minimum charge: $3,000 to fix... could be a lot more. It appears this is a common problem amongst the 2001 and 2002 RAV4. POSTED BY: SIMON H - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 24 MAR 2009 ========== REPLY ========== I have a 2002 Rav4 with 116,000km regularly serviced, and have just started experiencing the same problems as others on this forum. The gearbox just started slipping intermittently with no warning or symptoms. I took it to my mechanic who could not diagnose a problem by applying the scanner as no fault codes were present. I was advised to take the car to an auto transmission specialist. The auto transmission specialist stated that this is a common problem with the Rav 4 at this mileage. He has verified that the problem is the ECU (transmission computer) and informed me to take the car to Toyota for repair as unfortunately he can not give pass on any warranty if he installed the new ECU unit. I have received a quote for the install of a new ECU of $1750 by Toyota. This is before any required repair work on the gearbox. I have contacted Toyota customer relations Sydney / Taren Point / Tel: 02 9710 3333 to inform them of my problem and whether a recall on this is planned. At this stage I have had no luck with their response but will continue to pursue. I will provide more feedback in the future. POSTED BY: CLAUDE - WOLLONGONG, NSW - AUS 23 JUN 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Rav4 model 2001 - Have the same problem, at 113000 km the automatic transmission failed leaving me with only the 1st and 2nd gear. NISSAN NAVARA 2006: RE: ABS *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
A guy at work had the same problem with his 08 Navara, and apparently the wiring to the rear abs sensors, runs along the front of the rear axle, unprotected, so any rock stone or bit of wood can hit the wiring, damaging it. This causes the ABS to malfunction, and because the intelligent 4WD system relies on the ABS sensors to operate, the 4WD is disabled as well. |

If a car is designed so that you have to spend $1300 to renew a $5 seal and considering all the other problems, then they are Not a good car. It's easy to see how the Nissan name is becoming affiliated with manure. Provide the seal and bearing number to your local bearing company and see if they have a replacement. MITSUBISHI MAGNA AWD TL 2004: RE: VIBRATION *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
My 2000 T/KOOC Magna has lost its smooth automatic gear change feature. Apparently the computer that controls the gear changing is the culprit. There have been several adjustments to the computer, which then works well, but for only 2 or 3 weeks. I have been told that a new computer will be required, and the entire system re-configured. Also told there are 4 computers in the car, and all have to be done, as well as new keys supplied and programmed to suit the new computer settings. I am totally fed up over this whole issue and am considering going to the TV and papers." POSTED BY: CHRIS - JAMESTOWN, SA, AUS 4 APR 2008 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== NISSAN NAVARA STX D40 2007: FULL OF IT - In my last bleat about this car cutting out and losing power in which Nissan could not find the problem they have finally found the problem. I took it to them a week ago while it was playing up and they tell me it’s the fuel pump. Great! Let’s get a new pump and it will be sorted, 20 working day to get one from Europe. What a joke! Then two days later or something they just happen to find 2 in Melbourne. In the mean time I have asked for a courtesy car as my piece of junk has been useless to me and my family {this going on for 2-3 months}. Now the place that’s doing the repairs have the pump and parts that were approved by Nissan. But now Nissan have done a back flip and told them not to touch the car {after it was sitting at Nissan for three days and didn't get touched}. Now they want to replace the fuel rail. What For? When the mechanic diagnosed it as the fuel pump, now I got to wait until the fuel rail gets here. So now I will have to wait who knows how long for that, and all without a car. I'm fed up with this company and its product. I will not buy this brand ever again and I will certainly be going out of my way to voice my opinion to anyone who has thoughts of buying this model. I should have bought with my heart and not my head, a Ford." POSTED BY: SCOTT MCINTYRE - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 15 SEP 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott, I understand your frustration. You should, in writing, ask some questions of Nissan Australia. Like why they are changing the fuel rail when the pump was diagnosed as the problem. Also ask why it takes so long for repairs to be carried out. Let them know that being without your work vehicle for days or weeks and having this problem for 3 months is totaly unacceptable and that you want to be compensated for it. Hopefully you might get a free service out of it. Post on this site how the Navara is after the repairs. Good Luck, Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 16 SEP 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott, I bought a Nissan Navara ST-X Turbo Diesel ONE week ago and it’s currently now back at the dealership getting fixed. I spotted Diesel leaking from underneath and called the Care line for a tow (from the country I might add, I wasn't happy at all). Now it’s in at the dealership and they said that I need a new Fuel Injection pump and it could take a few days. I'm so mad that I might have just bought a Lemon of a car so I’m looking for anyone who might have had other issues with the brand. I don't believe the dealership at all (according to them my car it the first in Australia to have a problem, what a lot of **** I thought). I have been doing a bit of research and found out Australia have no laws against dealerships selling lemon cars (Stupid Government). Although I have started a log of every time it goes in to the dealership and how long etc. It’s only One Week Old. If you know of any other issues I should keep a eye out for let me know and while it’s under warranty I'm going to be the most annoying customer ever Tanya POSTED BY: TANYA WILKINSON - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 9 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott I purchased a D40 STX Turbo Diesel Auto in Jan last year. What a pile of junk. I had mine for 9 months. It was in the workshop for warranty repairs for 5 days out of every 15 working days & I used it as my business car. Check out the UK forums on these things. They are still having the same warranty issues here that they had in the UK 2 years ago. Guess what Nissan Australia response is? My advice - get it back & get rid of it. Tell them you’re going to sell it & they will have the parts straight away. I was told the heat shields would be three weeks away, after telling Nissan HQ what I was going to do after their appalling service they found the parts at the dealership within 1 hour. This model is a Lemon but our weak govt will not do anything about it. Check the 4wd forums in this country & do a search for D40 problems you are not alone. Hope you get it sorted. Mike. POSTED BY: MIKE CORBETT - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 17 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott, I have a D40 too, no problems with my clutch yet but my diesel consumption went from under 9lt per 100kms up to around 16lt per 100. Other than resetting the computer, Nissan would not touch the vehicle, stating that it was still within spec. Tired of arguing for 9 months with Nissan and my local dealer, I spoke to Ray Miller of Turbo Engineering in Melbourne who diagnosed it over the phone as a stuck EGR valve and to get Nissan to fix it. The dealer would not touch it, so I took it to Ray and he dynoed the vehicle and fixed the EGR, (exhaust gas temp dropped from 650deg due to exhaust gasses constantly being fed back through the engine to 480). Fuel economy back is to normal. The dealer still won’t admit there was a problem and pretty much told me I was a whinger. I like you will not buy this brand again. Is it a straight gas car? Look at the engine. Is it green in color from the top? If yes take it to a mechanic and ask him to clean the pin in the converter. It is in the top solenoid. 2. Put the car in park, turn the AC on at max, is the rpm shakes. Try it several times while sitting in the car. If yes change the plugs not the coils. 3. When you accelerate suddenly while on park does the engine make a knocking noise? Means fuel pump. Check for vacuum lines if there is any leak. It’s located at the end of air filter box and goes to the intake manifold. The silver metal thing next to the box. POSTED BY: SUMIT - RESERVOIR, VIC - AUS 15 NOV 2009 |

TOYOTA RAV4 2006: RE: 2006 HIT 112,000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION IS GOING *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
Hi, we have just had our automatic transmission repaired $4,830 in Australia. We were informed that there is a problem with the fuzzy logic computer on models from 2001 to 2004. Toyota are aware of it but as the majority of the breakdowns of the auto transmission happens outside of warranty they are not interested. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "TOYOTA RAV4 2006: 2006 HIT 112,000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION IS GOING - I have a feeling this common transmission problem is not in the years 2001 to 2003, I believe it’s after a certain mileage which means more complaints area yet to come. I have a 2006 Rav4 and drive highway everyday since the day I got the car. I've racked up 112,000 miles so far but after 110,000 the car started making a funny noise and rumble feel when I got up to a certain speed and let the RPM drop between 1 and 2K. I come to find out this may be more common than I thought. What mileage are you guys at? When did the problem start? I want to know what I can do to fight this. My car is only a few years old... ========== REPLY ========== Bernie Reply back to me & I can forward information that will assist you to understand what to do etc. There is a class action about to start shortly. Unfortunately the cost to join the class action is around $500. It is difficult for most “Victims” of KIA's poor quality to find the $500 after they have just spent thousands fixing their car so not a lot of people have joined the class action as was hoped. However enough have joined to still make the Class Action proceed. To answer your question has anyone had success get money back form KIA. I know of several in WA who have had all or part of their costs refunded by KIA (I got a full refund). But KIA are now starting to dig in their heels & knocking back most claims. There have been 10’s of thousands of KIA engine failures in their Carnivals from 1999 -2002 in fact over 90% of these engines have failed (That’s Right 90%). KIA claim to have fixed the fault in their engines in March 2002 & all vehicles since then have been perfect? You only have to read the postings on this site from KIA Carnival owners with vehicles made after March 2002 to realize their claim to have fixed this fault in March 2002 as far fetched. TOYOTA HILUX SR5 2009: ENGINE NOISY *COMPLAINT* |

Hi to all, I have a brand new 2009 Toyota Hilux Diesel. What a bad mistake. I recommend you drive before you buy. From the day of delivery I jumped into the vehicle and had a really bad noise from 2000rpm. I rang Toyota and they said they would look into it. The rattle is so bad and annoying you won’t drive this vehicle. |

Rang my dealer, got number of Orange dealer, who said they would come and do a pickup, but it went the 2 kls. Soon as we arrived they put it on the computer. An engine sensor had failed told very rare and they had no spares, but they would remove one from a new car. 90 minutes later back on the road, service with a smile, and no problem to fit it in and they made sure we were ok. Since then no problems 26,000 kls, car is faultless and is a comfortable drive. Hyundai has really made a great car." POSTED BY: BARRY PALMER - GOSFORD, NSW - AUS 22 MAY 2009 |
