TOYOTA RAV4 2003: TRANSMISSION / ECM PROBLEMS *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
I'm another Rav4 owner having these shifting, lurching, slipping problems. It just started happening a few days ago. I knew something wasn't right with the transmission even though I'm pretty naive about cars and engines. It was so obvious that something was going on with the gears/shifting which must have something to do with the automatic transmission. |

SUBARU OUTBACK 2001: RACV BATTERY *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
Got my doubts about RACV batteries. Have my son's Subaru on loan for a while, decided to give it a clean. I had the doors open for a couple of hours and yes you guessed it, the battery was not good enough to crank the motor. Charged the battery until my Hi Tech charger indicated charging complete (3 hrs). Did a discharge test by turning on head lights, after 10 minutes battery volts = 10.8. Turned off the lights and tried to start the motor, battery was just able to crank, fortunately it just started. Not very confident though. |

========== REPLY ========== I used to sell Supercharge batteries a few years back and they were a fantastic battery and a great company to deal with. RACV batteries were Exide batteries with RACV stickers on them when I was involved in the battery business but I'm not sure if anything has changed there. Exide and RACV batteries made up at least 50% of my **** battery pile. They were the most unreliable battery from my experience of selling thousands of batteries. Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 2 OCT 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Yes I have watched RACV batteries along with Exide, Toyota, Motorcraft, Marshal, Masse, Holden and others travel down a production line in South Australia. Very nice people doing a tough job and a job that I have to admit I could never do. RACV batteries are now imported from a couple of countries and seem to be quite good. I question the charging and testing methods of the Subaru battery as many people do not understand Calcium batteries require different methods of charging than a lead acid battery of old. As for leaving the doors open for a couple of hours, what do you expect, Subaru have never had a large battery to begin with so I can see it going flat, but remember a flat battery is not necessarily a faulty battery. Up to 30 Hrs at 4 Amps can be required at times if your charger is up to scratch. If not see CTEK for advice. I hope the Battery plant in South Australia has a bit more life in it before imports finish it off like many fine Australian institutions. They area little cheaper reasonable quality but the workers are Australian and that is a reason to buy one. POSTED BY GAZZA - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 3 OCT 2009 |

Rainboaussie"" POSTED BY: C MULLER - WARRACKNABEAL, VIC - AUS 4 JUL 2006 ========== REPLY ========== I purchased a Longreach Winnebago at Geelong brand new in Feb 2009. Today we are still having problems. The short list of problems: 1. Diesel heater not connected. 2. Washing machine taps not connected properly. 3. Mic/wave, still getting fixed. 4. Gas oven been fixed but still not working properly. 5. 12 volt meter was not working. Got it fixed. 6. T/V. DVD broken. Got that fixed. 7. Couldn’t pump up tyres because the extensions were to long. You had to take off the back wheels to check the pressure. 8. Sat Nav was broken. Isuzu fixed it straight away without any hassles. 9. I opened the front door & the handle broke in my hand. They posted me a new one down & wanted to charge me . I so no way. 10. Toilet kept blocking. A real pain. We found out that you can only use 1 ply toilet paper. 11. Tail shaft recalled. No problem because that was Isuzu. They fixed without any hassles. 12. Fridge stuffed. I had the RV at a Winnebago repairer for 3 weeks & they didn’t plug it in to 240 volt. This made all our food go off in the freezer. The fridge can’t be used & no one will take the blame. We told the repairer that it was our home & to plug it in as the fridge was full. He said OK. We now call our Longreach the dryreach or gutreach (not sure yet) & the smell was so bad it made me dryreach cleaning it out. The off food went into the cracks in the back of the freezer & even Winnebago said you won’t get the smell out. They said we will need a new fridge. But of course they won’t pay. Our insurance won’t pay either because it was the repairers fault. I have found Winnebago to have poor warranty service (if any). This RV cost $235,000 & Winnebago won’t help us solve this problem. It is very hard living in a motor home without a fridge. Can any one help us as we have had the RV for 4 months & done 10,000km mainly getting it repaired. I have only just started sleeping in it as the smell has gone away? or I’ve got use to it. We need a new fridge & Winnebago won’t help. The problem I find with Winnebago is when you buy something brand new & most of the items don’t work they repair them instead of replacing them. This is at our cost to get the items to the repairer. This life time saving event for retirement has been a killer. We are so saddened by the poor service. They say sorry but sorry means nothing when they can do something about it & they won’t. I will never buy a Winnebago again, as long as I live. When I get the fridge fixed I will try to sell it. I know I will lose $$ but our health is more important than dealing with Winnebago directly head office. Sometimes it’s better to cut your losses & walk away. If you’re looking to buy a Winnebago email me & I can tell you more about the poor service. HOLDEN ASTRA 2007: RE: SHORT LIFE OF BRAKE ROTORS (DISCS) *REPLY* |

ISSUE: |
Check OpelAus website. 90,000 Ks from rotors and pads is not uncommon on AH Astras. It all comes down to how you drive your car and where (city, country). I have only 1mm of wear on discs after 60,000 city klms. Pads are 60% worn. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HOLDEN ASTRA 2007: SHORT LIFE OF BRAKE ROTORS (DISCS) - This Astra has done 47000km and the front brake discs are worn out. Holden complaints Department and the Holden Dealer say this is quite normal for an Astra. The tyres on the car are still in good order and have actually outlasted the discs! I have owned many vehicles in the past and I have never had discs replaced before. These Astra discs are obviously made from defective material. Holden should acknowledge this and make reliable discs and pads available. They have certainly lost me as a future customer." POSTED BY: COLIN BRUCE - BRISBANE, QLD, AUS 17 AUG 2009 ========== REPLY ========== The brake rotors on those cars are made from a metal called molycarbide. Pretty well all imported vehicles from Europe, Fords, VW's, Opels (Holden), Peugeots and some Nissans use these kinds of rotors. There isn’t a fault in the rotors it’s the way it’s designed. They make a softer rotor to make them brake better... nothing wrong. POSTED BY: ANDREW I - NOWRA, NSW - AUS 19 AUG 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Well, yes I know what you mean. I'm so angry. Just got a 28,000ks service on my 2007 Astra Twin Top and was lumped with a $1,550.00 account and the expensive item was the front discs and pads. I don't understand. No valid answer has been provided. Just it is a normal thing with those cars. I refuse to accept that. Well, you spend over $50,000 on a new car and 2 years later it costs you heaps to replace the brakes. Strange! Not correct! POSTED BY: BRUNA - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 29 SEP 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Just put my car in for a service, it's at 90,000kms, so was expecting a big hit for $950 to change the timing belts, have always got my car serviced every 6 months. Got a call to say that my water pump is leaking (funny as I haven't seen any leaks on my garage floor) and that my brakes need changing; $840 for the water pump and $950 for the brakes in total $2700! I could buy a second hand car for that much money. Only had the car for just over 3 and half years, purchased extended warranty but apparently that was voided as I had driven over 20,000kms since last service, even though I thought it was every 6 months. So they expect you to service your car every 10,000kms, with the amount of driving I do that's almost $500 every 3 months, which is almost $6000 every year! I may as well buy a new car every year... The only reason why I was getting my car serviced at Holden was to keep the warranty, at that cost I'm definitely going to shop around for a cheaper mechanic. I'm happy to spend the money but at the rate Holden want me to spend it, I'd rather not have a car. POSTED BY: DYANA - CASTLE HILL, NSW - AUS 17 NOV 2009 |

HOLDEN BARINA 2006: RE: 2 LOTS OF BRAKES & 2 LOTS OF TYRES, WHATS REALLY WRONG *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
Grant I hope you did take the Barina back to the Dealership as your family is truly at risk. I had exactly the same thing happen to me and I too was lucky. I was on the flat but my nephew borrowed the Barina as his car was off the road for the day and he wasn't so lucky coming down Mt Keira the same thing happened. Brakes failed, hit the guard rail ending up on the embankment on the other side of the road. Thank goodness there was no oncoming traffic and thank god he is ok but the car was a write-off and insurance is not paying. They say I need to prove the brakes failed? |

========== REPLY ========== Got my TK Barina for wife June 2006. So far I have replaced the tyres on the front 5 times (10 tyres in total) with wheel alignments carried out at each replacement. Tyres are wearing on outside edge, with a distinct pull to the left. The local service manager has acknowledged there is a problem with the car, however, Holden have washed their hands of it, blaming me. Brakes have also been an issue, with shuddering starting at about 3000k's. Rotors were machined 3 times, then replaced. Currently car has 65000k's, and brakes are shuddering real bad once again. However, last night, the brakes failed to work at all (luckily I was only doing 10km/hr). The braked pedal had a really big shudder, and then went straight to the floor. I will be taking this car back to Holden and leaving in the dealership where I got it from, as my confidence in this car has ceased to exist, and I am not prepared to put my young family at risk. POSTED BY: GRANT SEIBRIGHT - SHELLHARBOUR, NSW - AUS 16 FEB 2009 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HOLDEN BARINA 2006: 2 LOTS OF BRAKES AND 2 LOTS OF TYRES, WHATS REALLY WRONG - I got my Barina Jan of 2006 from Motorama Holden. I’ve had it for 2yrs in Jan and had nothing but problems. Have been through 2 lots of brakes because they were grinding and shuttering which has started again. 2 lots of front tyres because they went bald only on the outside, grinding in my suspension that has to be greased every 1 to 3 months. There is also the noise in the steering when I turn and when I have the aircon on, when I drive the steering is loose. I’ve done a lot of km because of work so I can understand general wear and tare but I’ve also had to take it back 9 times because the boot lock kept breaking. And all they keep telling me is it's because of the km's but all this happened in the first 40-50,000km. Now even though it's still under warranty they want me to pay because they fixed it once. I went to them before they kept telling me that there was nothing wrong. My advice, never buy a Holden because I won't be, and anyone I meet I’ll tell them the same thing." POSTED BY: SHEREE SCHAENZEL - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 28 DEC 2007 ========== REPLY ========== New car very low mileage as is wife's second car, and out of warranty at 11000 kls. Noisy wiper blades on first use, really bad. Took to agents and they wanted $65 each for rubbers, arms and blades. In time they did replace. After a big fight with the service manager. The replacement were just as bad, I replaced rubbers for $6.00 fixed trouble. 12500 kl could not engage 1st or 2nd gear. Agent said only two complaints of this trouble, but strangely they had a modification available, $139 plus fitting that required removal of motor at 7 hours and $85 an hour. Took to my local garage cost $139 and one hour labour $70. End of agents for me. Then at 62000 kl broken timing belt, cost unknown, at this stage only happened a few days ago over the Christmas period, but am aware it could also involve bent valves and holes in pistons. Like you, will never purchase another Holden product. I will add that my 1990 Ford Fairlane just keeps on going with no major troubles and NO breakdowns. Regards Col. POSTED BY: COL FILTNESS - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 30 DEC 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Further to the timing belt which I would have expected to need replacing at 100,000 to 150,000. Quote from Sunbury Holden agents, $3500 to $4000 to replace bent valves (The belt has been replaced). POSTED BY: COL FILTNESS - KILMORE, VIC - AUS 23 JAN 2008 |

Can anyone help me please? My 2000 model AU2 Falcon, 6 cylinder, auto, has developed a habit of the engine cutting out whilst I am driving along, sometimes when at 80km/hr or more. This has been happening for about a month and I am wearing out my welcome with RACQ. It has only happened when the ambient temperature is 30 deg C or more and after I have driven for 15km or so, or been stuck in traffic. The car slows to a halt, will not restart immediately, but if I leave it for 10 minutes it will start and drive normally for a few km's before the same thing happens again. |

Check the car leave it running for a while as soon as it turns off take the spark plug lid out and put a screwdriver in it and put the screwdriver near the nut on the engine and ask some one to start the car. Make sure you don't let the spark touch you. If there is no spark mean the ignition module. Else take the car to a mechanic and ask him to put the car on computer and check the Crank Angle Sensor. HYUNDAI SANTA FE 2003: RE: HYUNDAI PAINT - BIRD DROPPINGS *REPLY* |

I have owned a Hyundai Sante Fe from new since 2003. I have paint crazing on my car in about five different places. I saw a later model Sante Fe at my local shopping centre yesterday and the paint is crazing in exactly the same places. If it is bird droppings they must be extremely accurate! I have had other bright coloured cars for over ten years and this is the first time it has happened. My mechanic says dark coloured Hyundais are well known for this problem. I definitely believe that Hyundai has a case to answer and I would Never buy another one. |

I got home and washed it off but the paint has been marked and it is crazed as well. I am devastated. I have had many cars and some have had bird droppings on them for days, then it was washed off and no effect on the paint. I think Hyundai have a case to answer to here. What say you guys? to be a defective paint quality?" POSTED BY: CHARLIE - DIAMOND CREEK, VIC - AUS 22 JUL 2009 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HYUNDAI SANTA FE PROBLEM - paint - I recently purchased a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe, I noticed a small patch of crazed paint on the roof which I hadn't picked up prior to purchase. After discussion with a paint shop they suggested that it was caused by bird droppings and to do that much damage had probably been left on for several days. I like to keep my cars clean and regularly waxed which I did a week after I bought it. I had to go out early, about 6am, car nice and clean ... when returned I noticed a very small amount of bird dropping had glanced the car near the rear door, I immediately removed it and to my horror discovered that the paint had already crazed, this was after only 4 hours and it has done it again on the bonnet. I called Hyundai and they said that it isn't covered by warranty and basically 'hard luck'. The man I talked to said that I should carry a damp cloth with me when I drive. What happens if you are on a 5 hour journey and you get bird droppings on your car but do not realise until you stop, well that's not our problem was the answer. I am well aware that bird droppings are very corrosive, but I had a 1972 HQ covered in them for about 6mths and it never touched the paintwork let alone 4 hours! So what's the deal, all new paint is no good? After researching this on the web I have found that this problem is becoming a major issue with all car manufacturers and they are getting away with it. I'd appreciate it if anyone else out there, especially Hyundai owners would like to get in touch with me about it." ========== REPLY ========== Responding to Martin's post. I bought a new 2007 Getz on Friday. On Monday it got a large bird dropping on the roof. I washed it off as soon as I saw it (between 3 & 6 hrs after it happened), but now the paint is deeply etched and has some slight crazing. I have never had this problem with other cars even on old paint and leaving the droppings on for over a week. Sandra POSTED BY: SANDRA LEWIS - IPSWICH, QLD - AUS 10 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== A HQ Holden had different paint. It is the acid in the bird droppings and there is nothing that can be done about it without buying a good car cover or a white car. It does not only affect Hyundai’s but all cars with clear coats. If yes take it to a mechanic and ask him to clean the pin in the converter. It is in the top solenoid. 2. Put the car in park, turn the AC on at max, is the rpm shakes. Try it several times while sitting in the car. If yes change the plugs not the coils. 3. When you accelerate suddenly while on park does the engine make a knocking noise? Means fuel pump. Check for vacuum lines if there is any leak. It’s located at the end of air filter box and goes to the intake manifold. The silver metal thing next to the box. ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HOLDEN JACKAROO SE 3LTD 4JX1 2000: ENGINE WILL CRANK BUT WON'T START - Hoping for some help, I bought a SE 2000 in January, yea I know bad mistake, but it did look such a neat and tidy package. I think I know why now. Between over revving and low oil problems it has not been out of the workshops that long. The first 3 months were okay as the dealer footed the bill but now it’s me, anyway enough whinging. 4 weeks ago I took the missus up to do the shopping. Car started fine and had been running fine since its service 3 weeks prior. We did the shopping, came out, loaded the groceries and low and behold the car wouldn't start, plenty of crank no kick. Called RACQ and all he did was check the fuel prime and feed some ULP fumes up the air intake and she kicked but didn't start. Had the car towed to the mechanics, after a week they sent it to Holden dealer in town here, to Tech 2 it. They couldn't diagnose the problem and charged $250 for the non effort. Back to mechanic and yesterday get phone call to come and pickup vehicle because he has given up (no charge). I have read and passed on most of the information from this and other sites and mechanic has assured me he has taken onboard and checked. Is there anyone out there that has had this problem and been able to solve it? Cheers Glenn" POSTED BY: GLENN KEMP - GLADSTONE, QLD - AUS 19 SEP 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hi hope this helps. Check the oil pick up o rings, if they are perished or hard the pumps won’t pick up the oil. Other than removing the sump to do this you can try adding an extra 3 litre of oil. If the engine now starts there is a good chance that’s what is wrong. I would not recommend running it too long though. By doing this the oil level is above the o rings therefore no air can get in to stop the pick up of oil. The replacement parts are only about $20 and easy to do. Hope this helps! ========== REPLY ========== Be very careful. It may be illegal to remove the diesel particulate filter due to emission control regulations. I believe that there are hefty fines if you are caught modifying your vehicles pollution control system. POSTED BY: DORTWILDER - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 29 SEP 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hey guys on the topic of modifying things to better what Nissan have done, we have found the ST-R D22 ABS to **** useless in the red mud hilly stuff up north as well as on the pebble and gravel roads. ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "ALFA_ROMEO 159 JTD 2008: DO NOT BUY AN ALFA ROMEO - MANY PROBLEMS & ALFA AUST WONT HELP YOU - We have had problems with Alfa Australia and their poor customer service for way too long. A year and a half ago we bought a brand new Alfa Romeo 159 JTD. After about a month, it started having problems whereby it choked when you start it, then it stalled on the freeway and chokes when we drive. It is scary, embarrassing and we have been **** around by Alfa. We initially took it to the dealer. Approximately 4 visits later (last two times the car was there a month!) we are returned a car that still has the same problem! Last time it was returned we were told ‘sorry we don't know what the problem is, Alfa Australia is working on it and will be in touch. We will keep you updated’. And we never heard from them again. Months later with the problem just as bad, my husband and I became quite stressed, it is causing relationship problems between us because of the stress that a $60,000 car is doing this! We put every dollar we had in to buying this spanking new Italian sports car. We have left 8 phone messages for the National Sales Manager of Alfa Australia. We sent a two page letter. And a month later we got this poor excuse of a reply from the Sales Manager with no direct contact number and nothing to address our concerns. Initially, we asked them to extend the warranty as they were the ones who didn't know what was wrong with the car, so we shouldn't be penalised. They said no way. Now we have contacted as many media outlets as possible and will be putting through a VCAT submission and want the car bought back. It is a lemon! Problems since day one. We thought buying a new car would alleviate the stress of any underlying problems. Our mental health is affected by this and Alfa are so awful to deal with and their customer service is appalling (that is an understatement). We are meeting with a lawyer next week to see what our rights are. We tried to sell the car but as soon as a buyer starts it and hears the choking noise they run a mile. Why should we be penalised with a faulty car that Alfa Australia and Lance Dixon admit to having no way of fixing it. We were patient for a year and maybe that is why they are **** us around. Never, ever, ever buy an Alfa and this is the message we are working hard to get around to as many people as possible! Even writing this has left me in tears and quite shaken up. They are **** and don't care about the consumer. I hope someone from Alfa Australia or ATECO reads this and has the National Sales Manager pick up the phone and give us the respect we deserve! 8 phone calls not returned is a joke and not acceptable! Take this lemon off our hands please." POSTED BY: PREET WEIMAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 22 SEP 2009 |

This type of problem is hard to pinpoint. It reminds me of a similar problem that I had. but not as bad as you. It has been a great car, but a few weeks ago while driving home from the beach, my wind shield wipers turned on all by itself and would not turn off. After about 5 minutes my lights in the interior and emergency lights and horn started going off and then all the door locks were clicking on and off. This continued for about 1 minute then stopped then did it again for about a minute. The wipers did not stop for about an hour. I got home and did not use the car until the next day. No Problems. About 2 weeks later this happened again. Is anyone else experiencing this? The dealership said that no one has complained about this to them! I am worried that the car will shut down while driving." ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "LANDROVER DISCOVERY SERIES 2 2003: INTERMITTENT ABS/TC/DHC LIGHTS - These three lights appeared during 12 month warranty and never successfully fixed, although repair attempts by dealer took out my remote access and alarm systems, fortunately under warranty. I was fobbed off with the "we found a loose wire" explanation which got it out of warranty, but the problem persists and is now getting more frequent. Recent need of emergency braking highlighted lack of stoppability and research has led me to this site with reports of faulty shuttle valves etc. As this is such a common, and dangerous fault, Landrover should accept some responsibility, even if just cost of parts. I will revive my complaint to Landrover, but probably without success. Otherwise I am happy with the vehicle." POSTED BY: THOMAS BALL - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 14 APR 2009 |

========== REPLY ========== Hi I own a 2002 Astra Convertible. Not long after purchasing the car a year ago, one of the hydraulic lines blew oil everywhere while the roof was being put up. After Holden fixed it for a cost of over $1200 for the replacement of the plastic line itself + labour costs a second line blew two weeks later. I was at my wits end and contacted friends at Race auto. They contacted the Hose Doctor and my second hose was replaced for $220. This time however instead of replacing the Hydraulic hose with the same plastic hose that Holden used, it was replaced with a Metal Calibrated line. The hose will now never break again. It has been working perfectly for a year. As for the locking down of the roof, it is actually a spring on the side that is usually undone to allow work on the roof. If the spring is not re connected then the catch won’t catch. Funny but the hose doctor guy said Holden had actually called him to their workshop the first time to replace the plastic hose, he could not believe what they had charged me. Getting R.A.C.E to repair my car and do my services does not void my warranty. I will never go back to Holden for fixes or services. Our second car is a 2008 Captiva and has been back for 7 faults this year. Boo Holden. Jennifer POSTED BY: JENNIFER - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 5 MAR 2009 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HOLDEN ASTRA BERTONE CONVERTIBLE 2003: SOFT TOP, HYDRAULIC - In 2003 I purchased a Holden Astra soft top (Bertone) car new. The roof was vandalised with a slash within weeks, my insurer replaced the soft top. Under their policy they guarantee the repairs for the life of the car, even if the car changes hands. In 2008 (6 months ago) the hydraulics on the soft top failed pumping hydraulic oil into the interior of the car. The insurance company agreed to repair the soft top under their life time guarantee. Yesterday the soft top failed as I attempted to put the soft top down. It froze half way, won’t go down won’t go up. The insurance company assessor has said they will not repair the soft top because "we believe someone has attempted to break into the car therefore it is not related to the original problem". The car was secure with no evidence of an attempted entry and as I operated the roof myself I know it was a malfunction in operation. I’m wondering what my options are and if anyone else has had problems with the hydraulics on this roof?" POSTED BY: LILIAN FINCH - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 23 DEC 2008 PROVIDE FEEDBACK ========== REPLY ========== Hi Lillian, All convertible Astras have problems with their roofs. That might sound like a generalisation but it's true. Michele P might jump in here to let you know about her Astra convertible problems since it was new. Frankly, I see your torn roof that your insurance repaired as a completely different problem to a hydraulic leak or it seizing. However, if your insurance offered a lifetime guarantee on the whole roof mechanism, then their claim about it being tampered with, although you were operating it, is ridiculous. I'd be demanding to speak to the most senior person you can get a hold of at your insurers and ask them to put in writing that they say you are a liar and the roof didn’t seize while you were operating it. Let them know that you will be taking the matter to the insurance ombudsman if they don’t immediately agree to fix the problem. Good Luck, Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 24 DEC 2008 ========== REPLY ========== As Mark mentions I had nothing but major problems with my 2005 soft top. My roof never worked properly from day & they had to replace the whole roof at a cost to Holden of $22k, but it took some doing & a lot of calls to Holden H/O & my dealer. I had many more serious problems with this car as well, you should look back of my previous postings. Getting your insurance company to fix the roof is your best bet as Holden don't give a **** & will only tell you to cut your losses & sell it. Another girl on this site Madonna had her roof do the same under warranty with the hydraulic oil damaging the leather seats & again Holden could not careless & her dealer had no idea how to fix the roof. I now own & not by choice the new Twin Top & guess what the roof on this has never worked properly from day one. It was back off the road within 2 weeks for repairs & off the road every month since. And like the soft tops they have no idea how to fix them. The mechanics at my dealer told me my Twin Top needs to be taken out the back & set alight. Also staff in the customer service dept mentioned they would never buy a Holden. I am trying to sell mine, but no luck so far. But get rid of the car as soon as you can. Owning a Holden is not worth the stress they cause. POSTED BY: MICHELLE - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 9 JAN 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Lillian, I am in a similar situation with my 2003 Astra Convertible. Mine has broken twice in 5 years (had it since new) and this time they said it was leaking hydraulic oil. It didn't spurt through the car, but it caused the roof to seize half way like you described. Holden fixed it for a fee of $3000 but when I went to pick it up they informed me that the clips that lock in the roof also need replacing at a cost of $2200 plus labour! So I essentially paid the $3000 for a roof that closed, but didn't always lock in properly. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't. I used it twice and on the second time it stopped 15cm from closing and wouldn't go any further. I have had to force it down as best I can so it can be driven but it is now sticking up on one side and the passenger window can't be closed properly! I'm So Over This Piece Of **** Car! Looked on internet found out America had sent out information to all Toyota dealers that there was a problem with the computer not realising it was over revving the engine. We talked to Toyota where we bought the car and had every service done on time. They said you are just out of warranty by 1 month we are not going to help even when they knew about the problem before hand. We paid to have a new computer 1500.00. Car was ok for a week then the gear box went. Toyota fitted the gearbox for nothing but still wouldn’t help with the cost 1800.00 for second hand gear box. Then 1 month later the diff went when I was driving the Hume highway doing 110 the car came to a complete stop leaving half my tyres on the road. No warning very dangerous. Reason for the diff I found out was no one had put fluid in it when they changed the gearbox over. The excuse I got from Toyota was it’s been a month anything could have happened so again they washed their hands of it. I then found out that it is a common problem with the seal between diff and gearbox to leak diff fluid into the gearbox. After all this I couldn’t keep the car as I was too worried the engine would die so I got rid of it. Will never buy from Toyota ever again, their customer service was terrible. We have contacted them a few times but they say they are still waiting from Head Office to see if they can do anything and if it is under warranty!
