FORD FALCON EF 1994: RE: EF FALCON - WORST CAR EVER! DO NOT BUY THIS OR OTHER FALCONS *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
I have to agree it’s the worst car ever built, nothing but problem after problem. I’m a proud Ford man but this car is scaring me into ever buying a Ford again. My other car’s a Toyota dual cab, have done twice as many ks and never spent a cent on the **** thing. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "FORD FALCON EF 1994: EF FALCON - WORST CAR EVER! DO NOT BUY THIS OR OTHER FALCONS. - I originally bought my EF Falcon with less than 100,000 km on the clock, and from day one I had nothing but problems. The car was driven with "kid gloves", was looked after and serviced regularly - however the car caused me nothing but problems and on average ended up being serviced every six to eight weeks if not more because of problems. A "cheap service" was $800. Here is an abbreviated list of what went wrong: - Radiator - when through at least half a dozen - the Falcon has major radiator and heat probs. When the radiator fails, it also impacts on the thermostat, water pump etc. Only problem is by the time you see this on the temperature gauge, it’s too late. - Failed water pump. - Two failed thermostats - The car regularly leaked coolant for two years despite repairs. - Head Gasket went - if it’s a Ford this will happen every 80,000 km. - Engine Management Computer failed and needed to be replaced. - Spark plugs failed numerous times. - Leads failed - had to be replaced with new, and these were faulty too. - Went through two steering racks. - Shockers, springs etc - all replaced twice. - Brakes - This Is A Big Problem - if you do solid driving you will need the rotors to be machined every six weeks. Discs have to be replaced regularly as do consumables. - Automatic Transmission - failed at 150,000 and had to be rebuilt. - Idling - car had ongoing idling problems. - Fuel economy - awful. - Handling - awful. - Dashboard - poor fitting and squeaked regularly. - Odometer light - failed. - Indicator lights - failed. - Front lights - globes failed regularly and wiring was "twitchy". - Hydraulic stays on boot - failed. - Paint - flaked off car regularly despite being garaged. - Manual window winders - failed, window regularly fell out of its slides. - Airbag - failed - warning light does nothing but stay on and Ford said it would cost $1500 to replace. When I first got the car, I was unaware of how dangerous it was in the wet - becomes a completely different car in the wet and is Very Prone to Aquaplaning - dangerous for young drivers. I tried improving this by getting better tyres - then the car did nothing but tram track! I was a proud Ford owner, but I will never buy a Ford again. Quality, design and Reliability Very Poor. Save yourself the thousands I spent on my Falcon and do not buy a Ford ever." POSTED BY: MICHAEL DAVIES - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 10 NOV 2008 PROVIDE FEEDBACK ========== REPLY ========== I have exactly the opposite. I bought my EF 7 years ago with 205000km on the clock. Since then I have replaced the head (the previous owner split a hose and drove it until it stopped!) and brake pads once. The only other problem is that the air conditioner stopped working, but was probably because it wasn't used regularly. I can not praise my Falcon enough. It now has 310000km and still doesn't miss a beat. The plugs, leads, lights, shockers, etc are all maintenance items and will wear out regardless. As for the repeated replacement of parts, perhaps your mechanic should use better quality parts. POSTED BY: AARON - MT GAMBIER, SA - AUS 11 NOV 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Must agree. With the list of replacement parts that you have provided here, I would say that inferior parts have been used. Repeated replacement of the same components over & over seems to be frequent for your car here. Sometimes the cheaper option up front for parts turns out to be the much dearer option in the long run. Sometimes the dearer genuine part works out cheaper with the usual additional warranty that is given on genuine parts over aftermarket parts. POSTED BY: JAY - PENRITH, NSW - AUS 12 NOV 2008 ========== REPLY ========== P.S only genuine, top dollar parts were ever used. 3 of the radiators were replaced under warranty! POSTED BY: MICHAEL DAVIES - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 19 NOV 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Mate you must have got a bad one. 380,000 on mine (330,000 on LPG) and had cost me around $4000.00 in parts over 12 years. Not counting services. 1 Radiator (replaced just in case) 1 Aircon Pump (seized) 1 Fan belt (with a/c pump) 1 B E C M 1 Alt. 1 Set Headlights (I used 100w bulbs which turns the covers yellow) 1 Set of DBA rotors 1 Set of springs and shocks. Best one I have ever owned, well until my daughter parked it under the back of a truck. POSTED BY: RON - QLD- AUS 9 JAN 2009 ========== REPLY ========== I have had 2 EF's, 1st was an XR, I bought it for $9500 in '02. The only problems I had with it was an electric window and tyres. Figure that out for yourself... I drove it like I stole it and it took the beating. I now have an EF wagon which I got with 186,000. I have serviced it 2 times and it’s now got 225 thou on it. I have done 1 fuse, 1 fuel pump relay... grand total for repairs was about $11 all up. My fuel economy is pretty sweet, get about 700+ from a tank and I don’t drive lightly, use the gears in town and overtaking with the auto. It too is flogged and just fine. Oh, and it only cost me $900 and it went straight through a machinery. Don’t like Fords? Buy a Datsun or something you can handle. I believe Huffy, Mongoose, Malvin Star make pretty good bikes... try one. Parts are much cheaper and usually interchangeable. POSTED BY: MIKE - GLADSTONE, QLD - AUS 12 APR 2009 |

ISSUE: |
I have a VR-X 2000 Auto. I have done all the servicing for it by changing leads, front and back plugs, check the intake manifold butterfly, changed fuel filter, compressed air into fuel lines to clear them, checked catalytic converter, muffler and all transmission vacuum hoses and it solved the problem for 1 month. Then it started to bog down again usually if I stay idle for longer periods it happens and the car is very sluggish until it hits about 3200rpm then it takes off like a rocket. |

FORD FALCON EF 1996: RE: MOTOR TURNS OVER, HAS SPARK NEW FUEL PUMP BUT DOES NOT PUMP? *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
You should find the fuel pump relay on the underside of the coolant expansion tank driver’s side of engine bay. Colour is green the relay will only preprime for a short duration when key is turned on. Computer will keep the relay closed only if it has an ignition pulse from engine, that is engine running. Need to remove plug from relay and place an ammeter across the two Large Terminals only. A reading around 5 to 6 amps is ok. You can damage the computer if you bridge the wrong terminals. If reading too high or to low, pump would be suspect if low. Make sure there is plenty of fuel in tank, too high blockage or seized pump. |

POSTED BY: ROBERT MURPHY - CHARLEVILLE, QLD - AUS 3 MAY 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Relay is in a bank of three next to battery. Green bottom (I think). Did you take the cap off both ends of the pump? The cap on the outlet side shoots into the black rubber hose and blocks it if you forget to remove it. Genuine pumps have a large transit cap on the inlet and a much smaller one on the inlet. POSTED BY: GAZZA - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 3 MAY 2009 |

HOLDEN JACKAROO 1999: RE: BAD RATTLE *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
Hey, I too have had the same issue. I however just got mine back from my mechanic and it turns out it was an exhaust leak. It was leaking from where the turbo joins the engine manifold. I don't know much about cars (I'm still a beginner) but yeah, the costs to get it fixed fluctuate depending on bolts snapping and what not. But all in all that’s what my problem was. Whether or not it is the same noise but it may give you an idea. |

NISSAN PATROL GU 2003: RE: DOES 45K, WEARS OUT A CLUTCH - NISSAN DO NOT HONOUR THEIR PRODUCT *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
I am writing to inform the forum, and also complain, as I am now on my second clutch assembly for my Patrol GU '03. The first went at 55k, and now at 112k, the second has gone. I have been told that 'due to the unknown variables, Nissan cannot determine the cause of the clutch failure and that it will be a retail job. Now, as peeved as I am, why are we not told by the sales person that GU Patrols need a clutch at approximately every 60,000km? This equates to about $1,200 a year in clutch costs alone, if you are to buy genuine Nissan parts. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "NISSAN PATROL STI 2005: DOES 45K, WEARS OUT A CLUTCH - NISSAN DO NOT HONOUR THEIR PRODUCT. My fiancé and I have had our Nissan Patrol STI 4.2L Diesel since new in July 2005. Have done 44,500K's and have now gone through our first clutch. Both experienced drivers of private and commercial vehicles for over 20 years, we were stunned when Nissan refused to treat the replacement of the clutch as a warranty repair. The genius's at Ryde Motor Group in North Western Sydney made the determination that the rapid wearing of the clutch was due to driver abuse. They issued this report to Nissan who gleefully rejected our claim that we have in fact driven the same way we have driven our last plethora of vehicles to find this is the first time we have EVER had to replace a clutch. Nissan - you are a bunch of ****** Word back from Ryde Motor Group's genius has Nissan stating that the wearing of a clutch at 44,500km is to be expected - standard! Can you believe this? So get ready folks, if you buy a Nissan Patrol, tuck away $2,000 dollars extra for that clutch repair before your engine has even worn itself in. Nissan, YOU ****" POSTED BY: MARCUS ARMSTRONG - SYDNEY - NSW - AUS 16 APR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== One week before Easter 07 my 4.2 turbo GU Patrol went back to Werribee Nissan because the clutch had a slight shudder. This vehicle has only done 44800 km. They removed the gear box to find the clutch was completely burnt out stating it was driver abuse and it would cost me $1410.00 to replace. After repair was done the gearbox had a bad rattle in neutral so I returned the car to them and they said it could be a bearing in the g/box. By this time the vehicle had 45600 km. They removed the g/box again only to find the pressure plate had failed. Their answer to this was faulty goods this one is free. On inspection of faulty pressure plate the thrust bearing was only touching three quarters of the fingers on plate, still they refuse to warranty the first clutch. I contacted Val Davis from Nissan Australia on 03 97974111 to ask if this was a problem with these vehicles. Her reply was no, never. When I told her about your case she said what you read on these pages is usually all lies so don't give up hope ring her and complain. And my occupation self employed owner driver with 23 years experience. You don't do these things for fun it is too expensive. And yes my ute is still sitting on the hoist at Nissan. It takes them a week & a half to do the job. POSTED BY: KEN COLLIS - TARNEIT, VIC - AUS 21 APR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi, stop complaining about how long it takes to do a clutch in a Patrol. You try doing it; it is a major job as the box is so heavy. Plus they most likely have sent the flywheel away to get machined, so they have to wait for it to get back. Yes it is unusual for the 4.2 clutch to fail that early. The 3.0L clutch is usually the one to fail at those ks. I am a member of the Patrol forum and I haven't heard of one 4.2L clutch stuffing up at those ks. Once a clutch is out a mechanic can tell if it is driver or mechanical fault, it shows of the clutch plate. It depends on what side the wear is on. So I have had a lot of people that say it's not the way I drive it, it's the car, but you can tell by the clutch plate ... And yes I am a mechanic, was at Nissan as well. And yes I do have an 02 Patrol 3.0L with 140000ks and original clutch, and yes I drive it off road and hard. And the 3.0L's are the one that burn out clutches ... " POSTED BY: ANDREW SYDNEY - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 23 APR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I just love guys who pretend they actually know what they are talking about posting unfound and utter **** on websites. If you are such all so intellectually and mechanically minded people why don't you fix the problems yourselves and engineer a clutch system that never wears out. I have been in the industry for almost 18 years and have never, ever had a customer admit that it has been their driving skills that wear out clutches. If you are so adamant maybe you should take it to court and maybe if Nissan had some balls they should take you to court for unfound and defamation. Is everyone telling the truth? If you had a faulty clutch would it last 45K in the first place. Are you replacing the clutch with a genuine unit or are you using non-genuine? It might seem that the complete truth has been exaggerated, especially if we know that $1400.00 seems way too cheap for a genuine kit. Correct in saying that not all dealerships have all the tools to carry out repairs but as a business why would you spend thousand of dollars investing in tools if you will only need to at best of times use them a handful of times ... Brain surgeons everywhere ... People stop your whinging and whining. If you do not accept a professionals and manufacturers decisions take it further. Patrols are a magnificent 4wd. Best thing you people can do is sell it and buy another 4wd. Nissan Patrol 4 Ever POSTED BY: SHANE ASIF - NEWPORT, VIC - AUS 30 APR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I have seen people stuck in sand on he beach revving the **** out of the engine slipping the clutch till there is smoke coming of it. In some cases the clutch is completely destroyed in less then 15 minutes. No it's never their fault. The Patrol has power assist clutch system. This makes the clutch lighter to use. However it also takes away some of the feel from the driver. It is easy to slip the clutch more than normal when starting off and more so up hill. This is often the cause of premature wear on the clutch late. No it's not warranty. POSTED BY: HARRY BELL - NEWCASTLE, NSW - AUS 5 JUNE 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Agree with complaint, I have a 2003 X-trail 72,000 klm non-machineable flywheel the same as pre 2006 Patrol, Navara, and Pathfinder. 2007 models in some of these have gone back to full metal assemblies. Vehicle has not been off road, driven by mid thirties female and not abused, clutch has failed and parts are $1600 with labour to be on top. Will now sell X-trail after lack of assistance from Nissan local dealer and Melbourne Customer relations and will never buy another Nissan. POSTED BY: ROB MILLS - TOWNSVILLE, QLD - AUS 27 JUL 2007 ========== REPLY ========== To all you Nissan owners out there, email me re your clutch. I am on to my 2nd one. If I can get a few more owners I have a TV program that will do a story. I have a lemon 2007 Navara, they tried there best to get out of it but they replaced it and then said there was a faulty lot and yes it had something to do with the teeth. Go back to Nissan and tell them to change it because you know about the others. Do not pay to have it done. POSTED BY: KIM - PENRITH, NSW - AUS 24 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I bought the first model X-Trail when they were first released. After about 2,000km the clutch developed a noise that indicated a dry thrust bearing or possible spigot bearing slippage, particularly under load. The dealerships could not locate the fault or produce slippage. The first service after the warranty period I got a call to tell me that the pressure plate had collapsed and all up would cost @$4,000 to rectify. Typically, Nissan do not recognise the fault as a warranty even though complaints have been recorded every service since new. I have heard of several cases of similar problems and after reading other stories on this site, would never buy another Nissan and will actively discourage others from doing so as well. POSTED BY: MICK - BRISBANE, QLD, AUS 8 NOV 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I am not surprised that this thread is still active. Despite the denials and accusations of the aggressive loudmouths who have contributed to this thread by attacking those who have a genuine clutch problem, Nissans do burn clutches, regardless of whether they are a 3.0 litre patrol, a 4.2 patrol or whatever Nissan. To those of you who are the attackers in this forum, why don't you get out and stop contributing? Here is what I get from the attackers contributions: - go and design a new clutch yourself - 3 litres don't burn clutches - Go buy a different 4wd - people who are complaining about their Nissan clutches cannot be trusted. They are lying about the problem. They rev their cars on the beach. - I know everything about the Nissan clutch problem because I am a member of the patrol forum - etc, etc, etc Are you people serious? Is this your idea of helping? As I have said before, this is a forum for complaints and for contributing help, not a forum for attacking those asking for help. So if you can't help then stay out. POSTED BY: ENAR - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 9 NOV 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Purchased privately, secondhand a Nissan X-Trail ST 2003 on 27/1/2005 after a RAA (Royal Automobile Association of S.A.) Green Light Pre purchase vehicle inspection the same as that used by Nissan Dealers in Adelaide South Australia (we were living in Adelaide at the time). Inspection was given the "Green" light on Engine/Driveline and all other sections except tyres (spare worn) Odometer reading 31154. I did notice on driving the clutch had to be fully depressed otherwise gear change was very notchy. At the first service by Unley Nissan at Unley shortly after purchase I queried the clutch adjustment as I thought this may be the problem and highlighted the comment on a service invoice from previous owners service at UltraTune Glenelg in Adelaide by the mechanic doing the service( odometer reading was 21299) i.e. “appears possible Clutch Shudder through gears". Unley Nissan said clutch was OK and they were all like this until better worn in and adjustment was not the problem! (but did Not write on the service sheet my? or their response). I continued driving and the problem continued to worsen. I contacted another dealer Grand Nissan at Morphett Vale (Southern suburb of Adelaide) and they said Nissan Australia would not warranty clutch even though vehicle was still within 3 years from new, and as I was not the original owner and who knows what the first owner was like as a driver. So I had Grand Nissan replace clutch at my expense 21/11/2006. Clutch a little better but still grated through gears and although better was not much better. Incidentally they noted there were "hot spots" on flywheel and had the clutch plate pressure tested by Adelaide Clutch and Brake repairs which stated pressure although lower than normal was within normal range and therefore no hope of a case with Nissan Australia. I have had mostly Volkswagens and Volvos in the past and other cars such as Holdens and Fords but never had clutch problems except in a very old Volvo 245 when it had done something like 180,000 km (it had towed horse floats and heavily laden trailers). I do not ride the clutch nor rev engine on take off and know what constitutes a normal clutch. I am disillusioned with the Nissan X-Trail for this problem alone - in all other respects I am pleased with the vehicle, but you can understand this problem is a significant and annoying point which subtracts substantially from the pleasure of driving and making gear changes when stationary or trying to engage reverse extremely hard. In Hamilton at the Ford/Nissan dealer Paslow Ford & Nissan I was told rudely (when I visited their service department for the First time as brand new customer and incidentally one who never returned) that Nissan will not guarantee clutches over 10,000km and attributed the problem to drivers who ride the clutch (and for example mentioned women in high heels-one with a Patrol that burnt clutch out at 14,000km). All I had wanted was a discussion as to how to contact Nissan and to discuss the problem but was summarily dismissed by a rude and inept service manager who could not listen to what I had to say. Consequently when next back in Adelaide I had the clutch replaced at Grand Nissan as I mentioned. ========== REPLY ========== Hi, if I read this right you said there is a noise when revving to 6,000 or 7,000 revs. If that is true keep in mind they are a small motor even the 6 cylinders revving the motor that hard they aren't going to like it. The noise you are hearing (keep in mind I can't hear it so I’m going from what you have said) is the crank shaft which is spinning harder and faster with more revs. In turn this causes the conrods to reach their full limit of the motor pushing the pistons to the extreme top of the bore. In motor bikes or performance vehicles this is a good thing as it does keep the top of the cylinder clear of carbon build up therefore the motor lasting longer. These smaller motors however do not like full revs. This will end in an extremely expensive exercise. So my suggestion is maybe go easy on that lead foot. Once in awhile rev the motor hard under load of course but not to 6,000 revs. 5,000 should be the absolute most you should take the revs to, never aim to hit the red line. Now for the noise you are hearing from the left front wheel. This can be a common thing with any front wheel drive vehicle especially the ones that have been given a hard time. Most of the damage to any vehicle is on the left side due to road surface is rougher on the left . The noise would be either wheel bearings seizing up or the cv joints going. More likely the wheel bearings but I would suggest get a mechanic to check your cv joints when the wheel bearings are being replaced. Once again this will cost you a few dollars. This is the price you will pay for a little neglect as in giving your car a hard time. I hope this info has helped you out. POSTED BY: ANTHONY - VIC - AUS 6 MAR 2010 |

MITSUBISHI MAGNA TK 1999: RE: WONT IDLE *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
I had the same propblem when I changed batteries, you will need to take it into a dealership to get it reset. I think the reason why, was because it's an electronic throttle control and has to be done by a mechanic. Annoying, but it's the way of new cars these days, everything has to be done by a dealership/mechanic. |

========== REPLY ========== I would be happy to join the fight but do not live in Vic, I also have a 2001 model that has just done 75,000, had a new oil change and filter to drop oil into the water one week later! no warning. I believe there is a fault with these engines around our year models. Not Happy have only had the vehicle for under 6 months, why are they allowed to sell these vehicles to people! Shame Kia, I will be telling everyone! POSTED BY: JUDITH MOLLOY - LISMORE, NSW - AUS 16 MAY 2009 ========== REPLY ========== I am interested in any class action. So mad. ========== REPLY ========== My CDXI 2003 also has a tendency to drop out when in cruise control. I am having it checked out now. I have been told that it is a software problem. It will often time work if I stop the car and allow the car computer to reset itself. Ask your service agent to check with GMH as to computer problem. Have you had any problems with O2 sensors or power packs? Two power packs diagnosed as faulty at 125,000 km. Some corrosion evident. I am told that the corrosion is a result of the power pack leaking. Please email as to any problem or if none just a short message. Thanks Peter POSTED BY: PETER CHRISTOPHERSON - LOGAN CITY, QLD - AUS 5 FEB 2009 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HOLDEN VECTRA ZC 2003: WEARING OF REAR TYRES - I have a 2003 ZC series Vectra and it is wearing tyres on the rear inside and has done from new. POSTED BY: ALAN WHITHAM - PERTH, WA - AUS 10 JAN 2009 ========== REPLY ========== I just bought a 2005 ZC and have noticed this loud rear bearing noise, I'm sure it's not the rear wheel bearings as the car has only done 50,000Km. I think it is tyre noise and am interested in your comments about rear alignment. Where in Perth did you get yours fixed. Regards, Ken POSTED BY: KEN CAMPBELL - PERTH, WA - AUS 6 AUG 2009 |

========== REPLY ========== "I myself bought a second hand Nissan Patrol 2000 Gull. Only had it a month and what do you know it blew up. I have since been to Nissan about the problem since looking on the internet and finding 100,000 cases like mine but of course they don't admit they know anything about it. I have rung Nissan Australia and they reckon they won’t do anything about it cause of the Age of the vehicle. I’ve sent an email to Today Tonight about the problem. I am searching all forums at the moment trying to find as many people as possible to help with the problem and get something done about there 4WD's. There are a lot of people out there who don't know about the problem and they are replacing the engines themself. I suggest if you read this can you please send Today Tonight an email about your Nissan or your friends Nissan to get the Ball rolling. The more emails the quicker they’re going to listen." POSTED BY: JUSTIN ROBERTS - BUNDAMBA, QLD, AUS 23 MAY 2008 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "NISSAN PATROL ST 2000: ZD30 PROBLEMS - I bought a second hand 2000 series Patrol in 2003 from a dealer, had full service history and still had 2 years factory warranty. In 2006 at 140000km the vehicle stopped going 2 weeks and $5000 later it was back on the road with a new diesel injection pump. At 150000km it stopped again, this time a little more spectacular as it blew a hole through a piston, all pistons were cracked. Another 2 weeks and a couple of grand later it was back on the road with a new short motor and reconditioned head. Next to go was the water pump, another $600. Now we have another problem we can’t park the vehicle overnight with the back down hill, the fuel drains from the filter and you have to re-prime to get it to start. Nissan have now replaced the primer pump twice and we still have the problem. This vehicle is a piece of ****. Nissan will not acknowledge the problems with the motor are widespread but you just have to google the engine model to find out how bad they are. We have been to numerous car dealers looking to replace it with almost anything but a Nissan and they all ask the same questions. Has the motor been replaced? Has the turbo been replaced? Have you had any problems with the injector pump? And then you choke on their offered trade-in value. We just can’t afford to get out of the vehicle. Just my beef, but if there is a class action against Nissan re this engine count me in." POSTED BY: GRAHAM COOPER - EDEN, NSW, AUS 18 MAR 2008 ========== REPLY ========== We have the same car and are having many problems with it too. I called Nissan today and they do not care at all and I asked if they know of any of these problems and the only ones they know of is when the car has been modified. I somehow do not think our dual battery will affect the gearbox and all the other issues. I think something needs to be done money wise it is affecting families in a big way. We lost 5th gear in the middle of outback Qld during the floods and it was very stressful for all. All Nissan owners having this problem should come together to do something... POSTED BY: SARAH - DARWIN, NT - AUS 24 MAR 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hi I have a 04 build ST 3litre which has cracked a head with 137000 on the clock. It has had all its services on time and it has cost me $4800 to rebuild by Nissan. They say this is the first they have had. Nissan said that because of the klms and age they would not come to the party. POSTED BY: COLIN WALKER - MORANBAH, QLD - AUS 7 APR 2009 ========== REPLY ========== We bought a 2001 ZD30 Patrol for 20,000 two weeks before Christmas it had 220,000 on the clock. I thought the bugs would have been worked out at that many kms. We had it for two weeks, we did 2000km highway driving, and two days before Christmas it blew up. Car yard had it for three weeks and they didn't want nothing to do with it. My old boy and his mate picked it up to pull motor out, in the mean time we bought a 2006 motor with only 27000km for 7000 complete. While waiting for the motor to turn up my dad pulled the other motor apart to find it had a hole in number three piston, so we rebuilt the bottom end, new pistons bearings ect. Fuel pump came back with a good report from being checked as well as turbo and injectors. Motor is back together in my car now and its got 3000km on rebuild and running like a clock. We were advised to block off the pipe that runs from the exhaust to intake as the valve that controls the amount of hot gases stuff up and lets all them in and poor design intake manifold dumps the gases into number three. That’s why it has a melt down. We just sold the rebuilt motor and now fitting the low km motor in and I’m going to block that off too. Nissan didn't want anything to do with the car nor did the car yard or the warrant company that we got for the car. All up it owes us 30,000. Other than the motor problem it’s a great car to drive, it tows my race car nice. Mrs. loves it, rides nice ect. POSTED BY: TERRY HAMMOND - HOBART, TAS - AUS 10 APR 2009 |

LANDROVER DISCOVERY 1996: APPARENT ABS FAILURE / NO BRAKES *COMPLAINT* |
||
ISSUE: |
I have a '96 Land Rover Discovery VIN SALJY1242TA532859. It has a Wabco ABS system that is supposed to be rock-solid. The brakes on this Rover used to 'cycle' every 5 or 6 presses of the brake pedal. This cycling is somewhat disconcerting because the pedal pushes back against your foot during this cycle and you have no brake until pressure balances. Previously you could release the pedal and reapply pressure to get brakes. |

========== REPLY ========== Relay is in a bank of three next to battery. Green bottom (I think). Did you take the cap off both ends of the pump? The cap on the outlet side shoots into the black rubber hose and blocks it if you forget to remove it. Genuine pumps have a large transit cap on the inlet and a much smaller one on the inlet. POSTED BY: GAZZA - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 3 MAY 2009 ========== REPLY ========== You should find the fuel pump relay on the underside of the coolant expansion tank driver’s side of engine bay. POSTED BY: NEIL - PERTH, WA - AUS 6 MAY 2009 |

FORD FALCON 2003: RE: POSSIBLE ORIGIN OF OIL LEAK/SARA'S WORKPLACE *REPLY* |

I had a funny and I guess rare fault with my BA when it was new. The alloy sump was porous and the oil was leaking through it and leaving the occasional drip on the ground. I had to carefully clean off the outside of sump to find. No sign of any leaks in past 5 years and I get under to service myself. Good Luck. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "FORD FALCON BA FUTURA 2003: POSSIBLE ORIGIN OF OIL LEAK/SARA'S WORKPLACE - Hi all, I'm new to this site and am looking for some advice regarding a small motor oil leak. I've got a 2003 BA Falcon Futura with 100,000ks on it but I've just discovered a small oil leak dripping onto the right side cross member under the right (looking from the driver's seat) rear of the motor it that makes sense. It's pretty much under a sensor type thing that comes out of the exhaust manifold and just under a heavy red wire that runs across the cross member from the motor. I know it's a needle in a haystack type thing but I thought perhaps this has come up before and might be a common/easy fix as I can't for the life of me pinpoint where it's coming from. Also, I don't know how to personal message on this site and I'm looking for Sara Seroka (unsure of spelling) who posts on this site as I would like to bring my car to her for servicing etc as she appears to know her stuff. Sara, if you're out there!
