HOLDEN BARINA SRI 2004:  RADIO/STEREO - NOT SWITCHING ON!    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

My 2002 radio/stereo won't turn on after the battery went flat. The fuse which is related to the radio has been replaced however, this didn't make any difference, the radio remained broken. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Have the problem that my radio doesn't work on the radio itself after battery change in my Holden VY Commodore. That means that the display and all is gone but I can change stations and volume on the steering wheel. The CD which is still inside won't come out also because all the buttons on the radio won't work!

Someone any idea what can be the problem?

Thanks, Casey

You will need a code for the radio after the battery has been flat or disconnected. I have new Barina and got a card with code on it when I bought the car. You might have to ring Holden if you don’t have code.

ENGINE

The problem sound like water in the fuel. I have had this happen to me twice. The engine misses & the engine management light comes on. On the Patrol they use the engine management light a telltale for water as well as other problems.

Drain the fuel filter then reprime & test again. If you are in very cold country then keep the fuel tanks topped up as I suspect the area above the fuel when standing at night is condensing. Also had water in fuel on Nullabor after refilling at Mundrabilla. Got 60 km down the highway with engine miss & light on.

Hope this helps.

Can someone please give me some advice as this car has only 156000km and I have owned from new. I am seriously thinking of trading it in as it has already had a new fuel pump at 140000 km that cost about $3000 dollar. As a trade the car is only worth 10k to 15k. **** any way you turn. Hi Dale,
We have a 1999 Kia, bought in Jan 2007 in Melbourne with about 125,000kms. Driven from Melbourne to Sydney. Then in Jan 2008, from Sydney to Perth via coast road (5,000kms in 8 days), the car never missed a beat, we were very impressed. Now done 150,000kms.

May 2009, strange sound from motor. Loss of power. Overheated. Dead. Limped to Mechanic, who refused to touch it, but told me to google it. Not Happpy. Found this website. Very informative, thanks for your efforts.

After some investigation, we have been advised motor was replaced at 50,000kms, due to blown head gasket. Ready to take action, not to spend money on a car that we still have a large amount outstanding debt. I will follow your advice. Please email me any new info or updates you have, would be greatly appreciated.

MOTORCYCLING

Motorcycling Australia (MA) will be marking World Environment Day next Friday 5 June 2009, one year on from the launch of its Environmental Sustainability Policy and National Environmental Code and Management Plan.

MA, along with industry representatives, will be meeting to look at the progress that has been made in the last 12 months in relation to the environment.

MA’s celebration of World Environment Day follows the example being set by the world governing body for motorcycle sport - the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) – who has introduced an Environmental Charter to cover most of the main environmental issues in our sport, from the protection of the ground to the management of waste material.

Any interested persons are welcome to come along and check out the static motorcycle displays, as well as witnessing the announcement of the inaugural MA Environmental Achievement Award.

This will take place on:

Friday 5 June 2009
12:30pm – 1:30 pm
Sol Green Reserve
Corner Montague Street and City Road, South Melbourne

PRESS-RELEASE VACC  2009:  VACC AND INDEPENDENT SERVICE STATION OWNERS ALARMED AT PROPOSED EXPANSION OF CALTEX FUEL RETAILING EMPIRE    *PRESS RELEASE*

29 MAY 2009

ISSUE:
INDUSTRY

VACC, the peak Automotive Industry body in Victoria, has expressed concern that Caltex Australia is to enter into an agreement to buy 302 Mobil service stations sites.

The agreement is now subject of a review by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).

“VACC and the Independent Service Station owners have grave concerns about this proposed move,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.

“On the face of it, Caltex seems to be entering the retail fuel sector. But the reality is Caltex is already active in this market with 748 outlets. Acquiring the Mobil sites will only result in this multinational increasing its presence to some 1050 outlets.

“People forget, and let us hope the ACCC have not, that Caltex has an alliance with fuel retailer’s Woolworths, which equates to about 38 percent of the retail fuel market.

“By acquiring Mobil’s retail segment, Caltex will enjoy around 44 per cent of the market.

“If you take into consideration the Shell/Coles alliance, then, if this move goes through, the lions’ share of the Australia’s retail fuel outlets will be controlled by two oil majors and their supermarket partners.

“VACC and the Independent Service Station owners hope this fact has not gone unnoticed by ACCC. If it is truly concerned about protecting business, then ACCC should block this move. If it is serious about being a consumer watchdog, then ACCC will prevent Caltex’s purchase of Mobil service station sites.

“This move would be bad for consumers and the Industry. Independent Service Stations will not be able to compete with the supermarket retail sites because they do not enjoy any price discounts at the wholesale level, which is controlled by Shell and Caltex. Without the Independents, the motorist will pay more because the supermarkets will be unchecked and able to charge whatever they want at the pump.

“VACC calls on ACCC to stand up and take action. We call on the ACCC to block this move and to send a message to big business that dominance of the market place is unhealthy and not in the best interests of the consumer,” Mr Purchase said.

PRESS-RELEASE VACC  2009:  VACC SUPPORTS BRUCE BILLSON, MP FOR DUNKLEY’S CALL TO CHANGE THE SKILLS COUNCIL     *PRESS RELEASE*

29 MAY 2009

ISSUE:
INDUSTRY

VACC, the peak Automotive Industry body in Victoria, has welcomed comments by Liberal MP, Bruce Billson, regarding the recent decision by the Government to transfer automotive training into a manufacturing Skills Council.

Mr Billson, MP for Dunkley (Victoria) told the House of Representatives that the Rudd Government’s decision to allow Manufacturing Skills Australia (MSA) to oversee automotive training was a ‘bad’ one.

“At a time when I thought competency and skills in an increasingly sophisticated sector such as the Automotive Industry would be very important and when manufacturing so often holds up the Automotive Industry as an example of world-class, day-in, day-out endeavour and of what Australia and Australian companies can do, they were left out,” Mr Billson said.

“This is another opportunity where the Government can show that its commitment to the Automotive Industry goes beyond some of the big public statements, the big media events.

“Perhaps if the Skills Council had had a hard hat opportunity that the Automotive Industry could provide, they might have got a better look in.

“This decision is a bad decision; it needs to be changed and I encourage the Government to do that,” Mr Billson said.

VACC and the Automotive Industry are campaigning for the Minister of Education and Training, Julia Gillard to reverse her decision to transfer automotive training to MSA.

“The decision leaves the Australian Automotive Industry without a say in its own training needs. No one knows the Automotive Industry better than the Automotive Industry itself so it is astonishing that we have been pushed to the outer of what is a critical area of the Industry,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.

“This issue has united the Automotive Industry in its condemnation of the Government’s decision. Our 5,500 members, the components sector, the other Motor Trades and Industry bodies, unions and now a Member of Parliament all agree that the Government must rethink.

“The issue is gathering momentum and the number of dissenting voices is growing. We hope the Deputy Prime Minister takes notice of Mr Billson’s comments,” Mr Purchase said.

"NISSAN PATROL 2007: REAR WHEEL CARRIERS SHEARING OFF - Has anyone had the following problem? I live in remote desert country. Much of my driving is over rough dirt roads. In the last four weeks, both rear wheel carriers have sheared off the rear bumper on separate trips. In the first instance, the piece where the carrier pivots, sheared off but fortunately I noticed and saved the tyre and rim. In the most recent event, the pivot point where the other carrier rotates on the "bumper" sheared in the same way and at roughly the same place on the other pin. Unfortunately, I was travelling over 300kms of rough dirt roads and didn't notice until my arrival at the destination. In consequence, the tyre, rim and carrier are all lost somewhere in the Australian desert. On both trips, the carriers had been closed and locked at the beginning of the journey.

I accept that the conditions out here are rough but jeez louise, these cars are represented as sturdily built and priced accordingly. Surely it's reasonable to assume they will stand up to Australian conditions. The roads were rough but not even "off-road". Has this problem come up for anyone else?"

HOLDEN BARINA SRI 2002:  RE: STARTER MOTOR ISSUES, TRACTION CONTROL & CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS STAYING ON     *REPLY*

29 MAY 2009

ISSUE:
MANY PROBLEMS

Hey Tracey, sorry to hear your woes. My 2002 Holden Astra experienced the same problem and was towed to my mechanic. It is currently having the engines computer replaced at (mates rates) cost of about $1300. My Astra is one of two at my mechanics having this work done and so is surprise surprise a Barina. My mechanic curses these cars, he told me last year to get rid of it as it had reached the stage where I would be forking out on big repairs and he was right.

I also had the starter motor issue about 3 years ago though I think it is an ignition fault - I could take the key out with the engine running and not get it back in. This was in addition to the Air Con compressor that combined would have cost me about $1800. Warranty or not, I took Holden on at the time and was pleased with the outcome. I am happy to tell you more but off forum (feel free to email me).

My latest issues are exactly the same as yours though I had warning about 6 months ago. This time, heading into the city for a course my car started and when I accelerated there was nothing. When it happened previously, the check engine light came on but after about 5 minutes the car was fine and did not reoccur until Tuesday this week. I thought by the afternoon on my way home it would be OK but no, the traction control light was on and I had to get it towed. My mechanic hooked it up to the computer and instead of it telling him error, he got a multitude of them which indicated it was the computer so sent it to his auto electrician for a second opinion who confirmed that was the case. Mind you, on the Wednesday morning when he first looked at it the car started OK and he rang to ask what the problem was.

Yes I am spewing, yes I am one of many, and yes I am going to get rid of this car. I believe in essence that a vehicle built for a climate the extreme of ours is a bad move. I don't necessarily regret buying it, perhaps just regret not getting rid of it at 5 years old.

Try searching on Holden Astra complaints and you will build a bigger case.

"HOLDEN BARINA SRI 2001: STARTER MOTOR ISSUES, TRACTION CONTROL & CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS STAYING ON - I have a 2001 Holden Barina SRI bought new in Jan 2002. The starter motor went within a year and had to be replaced. I asked around and was told there was a "problem" with the starter motor component in my make of Barina which the Holden Dealership said they were unaware of. The starter motor went again in about Sept / Oct 07 and again had to be replaced - this time at my expense by my local garage who indicated that they were seeing a lot of issues with Holden Barina and starter motors?

Two weeks ago the 'search engine' and 'traction control' lights come on and stayed on. I took it to my local garage for a service and they were unable to fix the problem - telling me it was OK to drive the car and that the problem would "reset" itself.

I continued driving the car but experienced loss of power at times and the car felt like it was going to stall when driving at slow speeds. Today the car died and would not restart when we attempted to jump start it. The lights came on when the key was turned but there was absolutely no power so it had to be towed to the nearest Holden garage. I am assuming the issue is now electrical but would appreciate some feedback on what can be wrong?

Throughout the time I've had the car I have also had issues with the battery light coming on and staying on. I have mentioned this every time it has been serviced (by a Holden dealership) and they have not been able to tell me if anything is wrong or why it stays on.

My three key issues are therefore:

1) Current electrical problem? 'check engine' and 'traction control' light staying on
2) Two new starter motors in a brand new car that has only done 60,000 KM
3) Battery light staying on

If anyone has experienced similar problems or has some feedback on what's wrong I would appreciate it.

Thanks Tracey"

Hi,

I have a Holden Barina 2004 SRi and had soooooo many problems. To name a few:

* Brake pedals fell off
* Gear stick just bubbled and peeled off
* Plastic mesh on front of car under bonnet comes off, now all my electrics are faulting (indicators, horn, locking system)
* Coolant leakage - don’t know why
* Water filter needing replacing (mechanic says suppose to last 160,000km my car is 80,000)
* Now hard to get into first and second

I hate Holden, cost me 21,000 for the car and never ending problems. Will never ever ever buy a Holden again!

We bought a Holden TK Barina Hatch in May 2006 and bought it back with us to the U.K. For the last two weeks the theft alarm (all four corners flashing lights) won't stop going off. Keep opening and shutting all 5 doors but after a while keeps flashing away (running down the battery). Obviously we have no recourse as no dealership in London. It’s such a shame we're all experiencing electrical problems as it’s such a super car to drive.

I bought my Barina SRI in 2004 and so far:

The brake pedal fell off.
A fault with the air-conditioning (can't remember now what is was exactly).
Some part on recalled (again, can't remember what - maybe ABS).
The horn didn't work.
The alarm didn't work.
The second locking system didn't work.
First and second gear sticks.
and the latest development, there's a high pitched noise when I turn the steering wheel.

Hi Jen,

Just an update on since my first post in May 2008 and your post in May 2009. The outcome of the problems experienced then was that I had to replace the ECU and battery which cost just over $2,000.

Since then the car has been fine until I took it into my local Holden Dealer for its 60,000Km service in August 09 (cost $970). The car was running absolutely fine when I took it in but within days of the service, I started to experience problems with stalling and lack of power at low speeds. I took it back to Holden who had the car for a day but could not detect any fault. After discussions with one of the service people (who was unaware when looking at the car earlier that it had just been in for a 60,000 service) he suggested it might be something to do with the timing belt (which had been changed during the service).

So back again for another day for the timing belt to be looked at and as suggested by Holden, a carbon clean injector service and throttle balancing and idle reset service for another $400 - all of which were ruled out by Holden as causing the problem. Apparently the car was running "better" but there was still a problem so it needed to stay in overnight for a cold start test. The cold start proved inconclusive so another call and more time (and money) needed to investigate if it was a coil ignition / coil pack problem. Again, this has been ruled out as being the cause of the fault so the car is still at the Holden garage. I am car-less and they appear clueless as to what is the problem. Apparently the fact that these problems have arisen after a routine 60,000km service is pure "coincidence". Unbelievably frustrating!

I plan to take this up with Holden - I have just had enough and will get rid of the car once its fixed as I appear to be just throwing good money after bad!

Any advise on who to speak to would be appreciated - I spoke with the customer service person at my local Holden garage today who just didn't want to know.

My 06 storm grey Navara had a big blemish on the bonnet from new. I was told that the early storm grey vehicles had a problem with the product used in Spain to wipe down the paint before big white stickers go on for shipping. A lot of these cars have had panels re-painted in Australia and put on the new car lot. This could be why some panels look different to others.

As I did not want my new car going to the panel shop I asked for a panel off a new car. It took 2.5 years to get replacement off new car. Then paint came off the roof, as I could not have this unbolted I had to have Nissan paint it. Came back with overspray over vehicle, and they did not even remove the roll bar to paint around the rear window. Red mud can be seen under the paint in the same spot. Nissans response was that I should have picked my own repairer. My vehicle has also been in Nissan for 3 months with engine problems.

I am only selling these to help you guys out so I am not responsible if something goes on or does not work. But it has worked for me so it is your call on what you guys want to do.

NISSAN NAVARA  2008:  RE: LEMON     *REPLY*

28 MAY 2009

ISSUE:
FUEL ECONOMY

I'm happy to be part of this. I've had mine since January 2008 and I started keeping a log book shortly after that. Over the last 33,000 km's, I've achieved an average of 12.84 L/100 Km. The best I ever achieved (only once) was 10.22 L/100 Km going from Canberra to Sydney, which is basically a down hill run. Average on the highway is 11 to 11.5.

Some time ago, I spoke to the Environmental Protection Agency in NSW about removing the DPF and they actually said they understood why I would want to remove the DPF. My argument is that I would assume the 20-30% increase in carbon emissions outweighed any benefit gained from removing soot from the exhaust. When I subsequently spoke to Nissan, they said that it wouldn't affect warranty unless the DPF removal directly caused a problem.

Feel free to contact me, my D40 Navara has about 35,500 on the clock and I've been keeping a full fuel consumption history for the last 33,198 Km. Nissan has so far refused to help with this saying my fuel consumption figures are normal for the model. I did actually get one of the customer service reps to admit it was the DPF once. They haven't done that since though...

"NISSAN NAVARA KING CAB 2008: LEMON - Hi all,

I just bought a Nissan Navara D40 2.5 2008 Auto king cab. Had it two weeks and Nissan have had it in the workshop for a week fixing the (dpf) diesel particle filter, the warning light came on and wouldn’t go off .Fuel economy on it is total ****, it does 480klm to a full tank, which is 75litres. Nissan says it’s ok which I know it’s not, I am losing 200klm to a tank compared to my Hilux which just traded in for it.

Does anyone know what I can do? Any help would be good. Heard about a tiapan exhaust with a chip. Does this work and without losing the warrantee? Let me know if I am wasting my time.

Appreciate any help"

Hi Joe,

The exhaust system on your D40 should be up to the job as standard unless you want a better sound. Your fuel consumption problem stems from either the factory ECU or the fact that when the factories install injectors they don't bother to calibrate them to match each other as a group of 4 or similar, straight out of box and in to motor. My 2008 D22 STR manual is running 600km plus around the city/suburbs (average is about 11.30L/100km), your D40 should be close to that if you had the manual. The autos are heavy on fuel, as many fellow Cairns D40 Auto owners have told me.

A D-Tronic or one of those similar engine chip/recalibration units will give you some relief from the fuel burn issue (how much is a guess, each unit is different as is each vehicle and driver) but you really should get a diesel shop to service and set the injectors as a group of 4. Warranty wise, Nissan will most likely not want to know you after the installation. Its one of those choices you have to make.

My suggestion is to grab a Brisbane phone book, look up the Bosch or similar accredited diesel workshops and have a chat to them, it may even be worth making a day trip to the big smoke to chat face to face with them, that way they should be able to look at the vehicle and give you prices and info to take home for you to go through.

Hope this works out, at least you don't have the manual D40 and are doing $1500 plus clutches and flywheels every 8000 to 10,000km like some people are.

Best of luck.

I too am the extremely dissatisfied owner of a 2008 auto diesel Navara. Fuel consumption test by the local dealer as specified by Nissan Australia returned 15.95 litres per 100km highway cycle. The problem is the DPF, the manual versions do not have one (Why not?). I achieved nearly 20lt per 100km recently towing a trailer.

After 12 months of no action I am taking Nissan to court. I welcome anyone to contact me regarding their problems as believe me there are heaps of people complaining about this issue. Is anyone else doing anything about it? Send me all your complaints/info and I will present it when I go to court as additional support for my claim for compensation. Maybe Nissan will be forced into a recall.

Hi Justin

All the best to you when taking Nissan to court. I’ve changed my tires so my speedo is good. I’ve had to put a lift kit on so it holds the weight. Going to get the injectors calibrated and put a cyclone fuel saver on and last of all going to get rid of the dpf. If all this fails to make the fuel economy better then I will sell it. I have never known a 4x4 you have to do so much to when its new only got 3000klm on it. Nissan used to be good years ago, they have gone down hill cheap **** with an expensive tag.

Fuel economy I am getting is 14.84 litre per 100 km; 6.74 km / litre.

Good Luck, Joe

Justin,

I am familiar with your problem and have referred it to the OFT and the ACCC. Nissan clearly have a problem with the 2.5l T/D Auto. ACCC believe not enough Australians are affected to warrant their intervention.Office of Fair Trading wrote to Nissan Australia but Nissan refused to answer so they just passed it on to the ACCC.

DOT (who administer the 81/01) aren't any use either--- makes you wonder what these bodies are for. Contact me and I can give you a case number.

NISSAN MAXIMA TI 2006:  SMART KEY UNABLE TO BE REPROGRAMMED    *COMPLAINT*

28 MAY 2009

ISSUE:
ELECTRONICS

I have a Nissan Maxima TI 2006 year model with only 35k KM's. About six weeks ago I took it into a Nissan authorized repair centre and told them about a non-functioning remote which Nissan calls an "Intelligent Key". This key operates the doors as well as the ignition (keyless). Both remotes have been working since I have had the car and all of a sudden the remotes just stopped working. It's been six weeks since I have had my car in the repair shop and according to Nissan they are still trying to figure out what’s gone wrong. The remote won't program anymore with the car. The dealer has also tried replacing parts after parts after parts and still no luck. Nissan keeps asking for more parts to be replaced each week and new procedures to be tried to program the remotes to the car.

I am paying close to $700 per month for this car and not even driving it. I am not sure how many parts are there in that car that are associated with a simple remote control (keyless entry that is). I am now getting so frustrated about this. Also Nissan only has a customer service department that takes customer calls. There is no other person at Nissan Australia that I can speak to re my car. I have asked Customer service to get a Nissan rep to contact me but the answer I get is "our reps are not customer facing so you can only talk to us". How can a company like Nissan not have an escalation team? Absolutely unbelievable.

I think there is a fault in the cars. Until your remotes are working, you are good but as soon as those remotes die or if you ask for a new remote, I bet all Maxima's would have the same issue. I asked the dealer if they have ever done another remote programming before and they said no one wants to buy another remote since they cost $400 so they have never had to program a new one. I really like the car and enjoy driving it but because of this problem and the fact that Nissan does not really have a good escalation point for issues, I am going to think twice before I buy another Nissan in Australia.

ISSUE:
COOLING SYSTEM

I guess this is a warning for other D40 owners. If you manage to hit any thing on the underside of the radiator area or sump guard, be sure to check that the radiator has not moved in its mounts, causing the fan blades to contact and puncture the radiator core. Not much good if you actually use the vehicle as a 4x4 and if this happens expect a bill over the $2000 mark in parts alone and no apparently it's not warranty even for such a fragile design. This damage may also not occur directly after the impact but some time latter as the radiator slowly moves backward. Be aware the plastic fan alone is over $500 and no apparent non genuine ones are available as yet.

My vehicle is sitting at the mechanics, not dismantled as the workshop supervisor advised it was not worth it as he has seen it all before, so I have a vehicle without a motor.

What makes me so mad is that these vehicles are purchased by families, not well off people. Hard working Australians that need the vehicle to collect kids, go to work and earn a living. If we were millionaires I could understand it but we are not. I am happy to join the fight and nail these ****. Why are car yards still selling these vehicles when there is a clear problem,. Maybe Today Tonight should be contacted and let all of Australia know before more of us suckers get fooled!

Nissan replaced the computer & fuel tank sender saying that was the problem, has not improved. We were told the motor was still running in. 17000kms later and still not any better. Has been in the service department for over 40 days. Nissan say there is nothing wrong with the car because their engine management computer tells them that. They are refusing to do any thing until we find out what the problem is.

John, I also have a 2007 Nissan Navara d40 auto with the identical problem to you. Mine is using 17 liters around town and 16 liters on open roads per 100 klms. Dealer has rebooted computer twice with no improvement, they are also at a loss as what to do next. Mine has done 9000klms and had the same lack of economy from day one. I was given the same reasons from the dealer as you were i.e., it is still running in.

My last diesel was a Hilux and I am currently getting trade in prices for a new Hilux. Good luck dealing with Nissan as they don’t appear to care.

John, I have the same problem as you, only worse (20 to 25 lt. /100k when towing). Have been given the same run around as others have as Nissan don't have the answer or aren't prepared to fix the problem.

However, I have done some tests and believe I have found some of the problem. The pressure in the exhaust before the DPF (diesel particulate filter) is 6 psi. and after the DPF is 1.5 psi. under load, giving 4.5 psi across the DPF. This is 4.5 times over the alarm limit of 1 psi. (6.9kpa.) specified by Nissan.

High exhaust back pressure can cause a number of problems in a diesel engine, increased fuel consumption being one. I am using the ACEA C3 oil specified by the Nissan hand book. Some Nissan dealers have been using Nissan 10W-40 B3 or Voyager which is not the correct oil but obviously not the cause of the problem as in my case.

The manual STX don't have a DPF and do not seem to be having the same fuel problem.
The message from the pressure sensor seems to be getting back to the computer but the dpf light doesn't come on (Strange).

I am presently waiting for a response from Nissan? What have you found out?

Regards
Al

This vehicle blow's large amounts of black smoke on take off and changing gears loaded or empty. Front end bushes and suspension has sagged and weak. I've taken it to Nissan and yes they have put it on the computer, and tested the suspension and they say all is fine.

"Hi.

Reply back to me & I can forward information that may assist. I am in contact with a Lawyer putting together a "Class Action" case against KIA for these defective engines. He is seeking examples of engine failures like yours but they must not have been dismantled. They want their mechanical engineers to do a thorough inspection & report. When you reply back could you go into as much detail as you can. I will pass on your details to him to contact for follow up.

Don't feel like you are on your own there are thousands of these engine failures out there & KIA's day in court will come shortly. (Try to read through as many postings on this site to get an idea on the problem)

Tell everyone you come across your story don't you wish someone spoke to you before you bought a Carnival. The very least you can do is make it very difficult for KIA to sell vehicles in Australia. KIA will soon realise that there is a price to pay for **** Australian consumers.

Hi Dale,

I have a 2001 Kia Carnival 93,000km, I have had it for 3 years. All of a sudden one day it overheated made funny noises and then stopped. We have been told it will cost us $6,000 - $10,000 to replace the motor. My car is sitting in my driveway and cannot be driven. We still have over $4,000 left to pay on this car and need a larger car as we have 4 children.

I have contacted Kia and they are saying because it's out of warranty ("36months or 100,000km whichever comes first") they can't help us. They are saying they are not aware of any problems with this models engine, although she wouldn't answer the question until I had repeated myself 5 times and then asked her to stop avoiding the question. She would not give me their address; she would only give me their postal address, maybe a bit worried we were going to stage a protest, not a bad idea though. Looking at this website just goes to show that there is most definitely a problem with the engines in these models and Kia has to be held responsible for it!

I have contacted Dept of Fair Trading and the ACCC, the ACCC recommended I read the Warranties and Refunds Info under their Publication section on their website.

I would really be interested in information on your class action.

Kind Regards

Samantha
