HOLDEN HR 1966: ADJUSTING TRIMATIC G/BOX *FEEDBACK WANTED* |

Could any one give some information or web sites on adjusting the band/s on the 3 speed Trimatic G/Box (fitted with 186 eng 6 years ago)? I have some information re Allen key and lock nut adjustments, but no information, diagrams / photos of where they are located. |

========== REPLY ========== Dave, you are really testing my memory here. I think you need a very small torque wrench to do this job too. Do you have the specs? Once the pan has been removed, there is a domed cover held in by 3? bolts. This has to be removed and the adjustment is in there. I think there is one more adjustment too but it is well exposed, maybe on the side of the transmission? Replace the gasket under the dome, pan gasket and filter. You can buy this as a kit from Repco or Bursons stores. Good Luck, Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 6 JAN 2009 |

LANDROVER DISCOVERY 2 1999: RE: ABS MODULATOR FAILURE (ARE YOUR ABS/TC/HDC LIGHTS ON?) *REPLY* |

ISSUE: |
Hi, read about the 3 amigos, as with mine. I bought a 99 model within a few weeks then came on and have spent many a time in the garage getting them fixed only for them to come on again. I’ve had sensors etc replaced but problem seems to lie else where. LR should recall all concerned. Apart from that it seems a good motor. But drives you to pull all your hair out. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "KIA CARNIVAL LS 2003: ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH KIA CARNIVAL 2003 MODEL. - Greetings to Everyone. I am trying to establish the cause and fix to an electrical problem. The car was jump started and as a consequence, the central locking and power windows stopped working. I did the usual checks. I pulled out one particular fuse, not out of any scientific procedure but out of frustration, and the computer reset itself and the problem was fixed. Took the car to Kia who effectively wasted my time. I therefore welcome any insight into what caused the problem and if it happens again, what I can do. I'm not convinced that my fix will work next time. Secondly, in reference to the threads regarding Victorian Consumer Affairs and the ACCC, as a journalist I cannot find any evidence on the effectiveness of either organisations. I believe that when they fail to perform, which appears to be normal business practice, that failure is considered as a "win" as the person making the complaint just gives up knowing it's a lose-lose situation and simply goes away. Much to the car dealer's delight. I encourage consumers to go to far more professional organisations such as RACV and check with them before any potential sale. Just ask which cars are more likely to end up being towed rather than driven in for repair. Frank.P Victoria." POSTED BY: FRANK PANE - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 23 JUN 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Frank Sorry I have no info to assist with your electrical problem. However as a journalist you may be interested in the story of thousands of motorists around Australia impacted by lack of Gov't action despite laws being there that are not enforced. I understand the Victorian Minister for consumer protection is trying to introduce "Lemon" laws yet, he has powers now that his department won't enforce only telling consumers to go away & take KIA to courts themselves. Happy to pass on the data & info collected if you want to write the story? Dale POSTED BY: DALE MORRIS - WOODVALE, WA - AUS 26 JUN 2008 |

RENAULT SCENIC RX4 2002: VIBRATION NOISE WHEN FRONT SUSPENSION IS DEPRESSED. *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
This problem seems to be difficult to sort by our nearest Renault main dealer, who seems more interested in selling us a new car. Renault RX4 Diesel 1.9 DTI Manual. Bad vibration noise coming from the engine bay. It was present about 15K ago whenever going over speed bumps. It's now present all the time while the car is driving. It disappears when the engine is switched off while moving. It rises/falls with engine speed. |

FORD COURIER PG SERIES 2.6L EFI 2004: RE: PINGING ON HOT DAYS, 33 DEGREES AND OVER *UPDATE* |
||
ISSUE: |
Thanks to all people who offered feedback on my pinging Courier and for all owners of Mazda B2600 vehicles and 2.6L Couriers I can now tell you that the problem has been fixed. It was a faulty engine computer (ECU) - **** up by Midland Ford during the routine service and not giving the correct ignition advance on hot days. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "FORD COURIER PG SERIES 2.6L EFI 2004: PINGING ON HOT DAYS, 33 DEGREES AND OVER - Bought this 4X4 Courier in the winter and problem only appeared in February on the first 35 deg day we had and after Midland Ford did a 'Throttle Body Service' during a normal oil change service. (Hint, Keep away from Midland Ford) Runs faultlessly under 30 deg temperature days -- over that , pings like mad, all sensors check as per specs, using 98 octane petrol has no effect, fuel pump pressures and flow as per specs, timing as per specs, fuel pump pre filter and tank clean, new high pressure in line filter installed. This can't be the only Ford Courier in Australia experiencing this problem -- any comments and advice welcomed as EFI firms and the Ford "experts" in Perth are stumped." POSTED BY: JOHN WILKINSON - PERTH, WA - AUS 25 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I saw this sort of problem once. It ended up being too much compression. The head had been removed because of a head gasket being blown and too much was machined from the head. Check that you don’t have really high compression. Around 175psi or more is too much. Good Luck. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 26 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== For what it's worth, my BA G220 Fairlane is pinging too, however, the dealer did an upper engine clean, and that has made some improvement. They mentioned some "new cleaning fluid" which they have now (sorry I don't know the name of it). They said that carbon deposits can build up inside the engine, which causes the compression ratio to increase. They also replaced the knock sensor as a precaution, but they feel that it is more likely to be the cleaning which made the improvement. POSTED BY: GREG - RYDE, NSW - AUS 4 NOV 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I have owned a 2003 Mazda Bravo 2600 since new and from day one we have always experienced pinging under hard acceleration, particularly so in 3rd gear above 3500 revs. Numerous fuel filter changes and tanks of premium fuel have had on effect on the problem in the 90,000kms we have had the vehicle. Have resigned ourselves to living with the problem and make sure we back off the throttle when it occurs. Other than that it has provided very reliable travel. POSTED BY: PATRICK BOWTELL - LOCATION NOT SUPPLIED 30 JAN 2008 ========== REPLY ========== My 93 Courier had the same engine and problem but retarding the ignition timing in the summer shut it up. If that works for you just mark the original position and the new one so that you can change easily for the seasons. It has to be the hot under bonnet air causing the problem, so perhaps a cold air intake or snorkel kit off a 4x4 will work too? POSTED BY: KEN GROVES - PERTH, WA - AUS 14 AUG 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I was wondering if you could send me the details of the company that you got your computer from as my Courier is pinging in hot temperature. Regards Matt POSTED BY: MATTHEW MELVERTON - RICHMOND, NSW - AUS 12 FEB 2009 ========== REPLY ========== My Courier did the same pinging when it was hot especially when the air con was on. I changed to a tank of premium unleaded every 2nd tank and problem has gone. POSTED BY: STEVE BURKE - PERTH , WA - AUS 15 FEB 2009 ========== REPLY ========== If anyone else has a similar concern & speaking from experience with these vehicles, I would probably suspect a partially blocked radiator as another alternative that can cause this on these vehicles. NISSAN NAVARA D40 2006: RE: AUTO TRANS *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
When towing 1700Kg you will not notice much input from the engine as there is a lot of weight propelling the vehicle forward which will overcome the capability of the engine. Running at 6.2 Litres per Kilometer is the equivalent of going through an average tank of fuel (60 litres) in just 100Kms. Are you getting 100kms to a tank? Being a commercial vehicle you probably won’t achieve a low RPM rate at highway speeds as the vehicle is geared to pull a lot of weight at low speeds so overdrive probably won’t show much difference. |

FORD FALCON III 2002: RE: LEAK IN BOOT *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
I have seen this to be a very common problem over the recent years with BA & BF sedans. Although it shouldn't be doing this the main reason you find water in the boot is that the tailgate lid fills with water and when it is opened pours in to the boot compartment. Furthermore it overflows into the boot and you find a lot of water. Easiest fix is to lift the tailgate and remove the rubber grommets that stare you in the eyes at the base of the tailgate that are at eye level when opened. What this does is allows the water to drain so when the tailgate is opened in the future there will be no water. |

Anyone with a similar problem got a solution?" POSTED BY: TAMARA - KELMSCOTT, WA - AUS 1 JUL 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Common problem with the BA BF Fords, check rear window seal as these have been known to leak. Also check for rust on the right hand side in the boot under the lip, rust in that area is also a very common problem. POSTED BY: BILL - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 2 JUL 2008 ========== REPLY ========== This is a common problem in a lot of cars, my EL had a similar problem. It can be many things such as: 1. seals around the boot opening have perished and are letting water in 2. between the tail lights and the body of the car there is a layer of foam that often perishes and allows water to pass into the boot 3. take out the spare wheel on the very bottom of the wheel well there is a plastic grommet. I punched a hole in mine to aid with the drainage of water 4. a build up of mud/rot gunk can collect at the drain points behind the tail lights, remove the tail lights clean out the gunk and re-install. Make sure to but some silicon on the tail light seals. Or if you can’t get silicon use a liberal amount of vaseline all over the seal to prevent the water from getting in. 5. if your car has a rear spoiler the bolts may have come loose and are letting water into the car. If the spoiler is a dealer fit this will almost definitely happen, the factory fit ones tend not to leak. It’s a simple matter of removing the spoiler drying the water out and replacing the seals/ rubber washers that attach the spoiler. POSTED BY: MARTY - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 15 SEP 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I had the exact same problem in my 95 EFII. Water was leaking in through the nylon inserts that the number plate screws go into. Found this out by lying in the boot while it was raining. FORD FALCON XR6 BA MKII 2005: RE: PAINT PEELING *REPLY* |

ISSUE: |
Hi Steve, I was recently a service advisor at a Ford dealership and I have commonly seen multiple vehicles come through the dealership with this colour peeling paint. The only real way to fix the concern with complete satisfaction is to completely respray the vehicle which will probably take around 5 weeks. As your new car warranty covers you for 3 years/ 100,000km's don’t forget that the body has a 10 warranty on the body of the vehicle providing it has had no damage to cause the defects etc. Hope this helped mate, any further questions don't hesitate to contact me. |

So took it into the dealer and they organised with Ford for an out of warranty claim (it was exp. by a week or 2). I just got it back today with a newly resprayed bonnet and while the dealer was washing it for me to pick up, more paint come off from the rear on the pillar. Anyone else had this problem? Shockwave is the colour. When it was first at the dealer for inspection, I heard one of the staff say to the other "oh this is shockwave" which leads me to think it's a common problem. Fingers crossed for a complete respray, but I get the feeling it'll just be another touch up. Ford initially agreed to re-paint bonnet and 1 door. I didn't agree and they have now agreed to repaint whole car. It is in the shop now. It happened about two years ago and cost $300 from memory. I have searched /googled every site in the world or so it seems on this problem. Seems there are Many Astra owners with this problem. Today - fixed it ... and it didn’t cost a penny. Step 1. Pop off the front top cover immediately behind the steering wheel. The one which the indicator and wipers stalks go through. Step 2. Get a star (like an allen key) key and undo one screw from underneath, and two on the top sides (Revealed after step 1). Step 3. Depress the latch on the side of the wiper stalk assy and slide out the whole assy from the slot, towards you. Step 4. Get a small nail or very small screw driver and poke it into the small hole revealed by removing the wiper assy. Step 5. Put your key into the gin and while holding the nail in the small hole (pressing inwards) pull the whole barrel assy out. Easy! (There's a small spring loaded 'catch' on the barrel which locks it inside the steering column. Step 6. Look at the opp end of the barrel to the key and see a small pin which rotates when the key is turned. The last position of this pin, when you remove the key from the barrel is where the problem lies. There's a small 'ramp' inside the barrel which you can see. It will be burred and pitted from use. (and a 'sharp' end on the pin. Steel pin and soft metal barrel) Step 7. Use a small file to smooth the metal ramp. Step 8. Rotate the key all the way "on". Depress the Pin in slightly (against a spring) so you can rotate the barrel to the end and the pin will pop out. (Don’t Lose It, or the small spring inside the hole the pin came out of!) Step 9. File the fat end of the pin to look rounded, not flat. This makes it easier to ride up the ramp and prevent damaging the *hit metal ramp again. Step 10 Reinstall the pin and rotate the key so the pin can’t fly out. Step 11. Put a small amt of grease on the pin and work with the key backwards and forwards to ensure it is working OK. Step 12. Hold the spring catch (Step 5) down with a small screwdriver and reinsert the barrel. It can only go back in One Way! Trail and error will find it! Step 13. Reverse assemble the stalks, covers etc. Saved around $140 in parts. On one occasion I pulled so hard I broke the handle and part of the fuse block. I went to the local Ford dealer who seemed to not take much notice of my plight. Instead of buying a new one I thought I'd try second hand only to be told I'd be lucky to find one that wasn't broken. It got the better of me and I wrote to Ford - no answer. The other day I finally went back to the Ford Dealer and was surprised there is a replacement new version. But the Dealer asked if my fuse block was broken? It seems that this is an outcome of the release cable - but there was no offer of factory warranty. I feel Ford has lost credibility to me over this. I work in a mechanical workshop and I’ve driven lots of 3's.Mine is a throttle position issue I think, as when I’m on light throttle, regardless of engine revs or vehicle speed, the cars jerks and shakes. If you own a 3, rev yours just past the 2000rpm range (in neutral) and you will feel the engine shake. Above and below that is fine. Mine is much worse than any other 3 I’ve driven regardless of age. |

POSTED BY: DAVID HOMES - CANNING VALE EAST, WA - AUS 4 DEC 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Sounds exactly the same thing that happened to me in my NM Pajero. POSTED BY: RYAN - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 5 DEC 2008 ========== REPLY ========== My temperature gauge goes up and down, up and down while the engine and coolant are fine. Possible causes: - temperature sensor (note there are two - one for engine management, one for gauge) - wiring to temperature sensor - faulty gauge, in which case the movement would be more sudden All those eliminated in my case, leaving - circuit board behind the speedo, which interprets the signals to drive the actual gauges, and also carries the odometer. NISSAN PATROL 1998: RE: RATTLE IN MOTOR *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
I have had this problem recently. Rattly sound when light clutch pressure on starting off. OK while moving. Only just made it to the mechanics. He first though it was a clutch centre. Turned out that both clutch and flywheel were stuffed. Adding insult to injury, there are also a couple of different ring gears for this flywheel and we got the wrong one. He had to fit our old ring gear to the new flywheel to get things going. |

FORD FALCON XR6 2004: BROKEN BONNET RELEASE CABLE *COMPLAINT* |
||
ISSUE: |
I note that others seem to have this same problem. I went to open my bonnet and the cable "gave way". I had to dismantle the handle to get the cable back onto the release handle but when I tried it again the cable came out of the handle mechanism again. On one occasion I pulled so hard I broke the handle and part of the fuse block. |

TOYOTA CAMRY APTIVA 2002: IS IT THROTTLE BODY AND FUEL RAIL? *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
On 17 July 2007 I had the throttle body and fuel rail serviced and cleaned (carbon). Not long after that the car developed a lack of power on intermittent occasions. I took it back to the Toyota Service where it was checked but no fault was found. Again, on 11 March 08 I asked again but again no fault was found. At this point the engine malfunction warning light started to show itself and the car continued to die from what I thought was lack of fuel feed. |

FORD FALCON 2003: RE: BONNET RELEASE CABLE WEAR - ANYONE ELSE? *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
I have had something similar where I pulled so hard I broke the handle and a couple of little clips on the fuse block. I went to the Ford dealer who seemed quite familiar with the problem but no offer of replacement of warranty. I have had to buy a new hood release mechanism and will have to fit it. I have complained to Ford suggesting this is a design flaw but they have not responded. At least the new one looks like an improved model and designed the way it should have been in the first place. |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "FORD FALCON BA XT 2003: BONNET RELEASE CABLE WEAR - ANYONE ELSE? - On my 60,000km service visit recently (dealer), I was advised I'd have to take my Falcon (sedan) back to get the bonnet release cable replaced ($200 because it's out of warranty). Apparently the bonnet release cable clips onto the fuse box and flicks the fuse box when released, causing wear. Additionally, I was told they'd have to check the fuse box cover to see if it needed replacing (another $200!). Has anyone else had this problem? (I am going to get a second opinion from my trusty Kmart Auto people)." POSTED BY: A COIA - RINGWOOD, VIC - AUS 15 MAR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Common. Also, be careful. POSTED BY: LINDZ - WYNDHAM, WA - AUS 21 JUN 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I have Falcon 2004 BA model ...and the very same problem. It cost close to $400 in total to fix. The problem was the Ford dealership broke this and did not tell me. The car was in for another unrelated problem so to my surprise when I needed to open the bonnet, I could not. Not only did Ford let down their valued customers by design fault, but in my case did not even tell me that they broke it. I would be willing to pay for it then (wear and tear after all), but after their cover-up they can fix it! POSTED BY: A HAMILTON - AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND 5 DEC 2007 ========== REPLY ========== What about the fact that I was picking up my son from his school in the city, so parked up for the allowed 15 mins in the multistory car park. Came back and my battery was flat, I couldn't open the bonnet and then because it was a tight car park, someone ended up reversing into me scratching two panels! So, the faulty cable ended up causing me to join the NRMA ($300), repair to my paintwork ($500), new battery ($150) and now it looks like the cable repair will be $200 - $400. Of course the car park attendant also charged me $26 for being in the car park longer than my allowed 15 mins grace for picking up my son! All at 38 weeks pregnant with my 6 year old son in the car! Well I feel better for venting, but financially still worse off! NISSAN NAVARA STX D40 2007: RE: FULL OF IT *REPLY* |

Hey mate same thing here, bought my self a D40 TD and I was losing power and it was really struggling to move. So I left it with them and they flushed out the injectors. |

========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott, I have a D40 too, no problems with my clutch yet but my diesel consumption went from under 9lt per 100kms up to around 16lt per 100. Other than resetting the computer, Nissan would not touch the vehicle, stating that it was still within spec. Tired of arguing for 9 months with Nissan and my local dealer, I spoke to Ray Miller of Turbo Engineering in Melbourne who diagnosed it over the phone as a stuck EGR valve and to get Nissan to fix it. The dealer would not touch it, so I took it to Ray and he dynoed the vehicle and fixed the EGR, (exhaust gas temp dropped from 650deg due to exhaust gasses constantly being fed back through the engine to 480). Fuel economy back is to normal. The dealer still won’t admit there was a problem and pretty much told me I was a whinger. I like you will not buy this brand again. POSTED BY: PAUL BAXA - COBRAM, VIC - AUS 3 FEB 2008 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "NISSAN NAVARA STX D40 2007: FULL OF IT - In my last bleat about this car cutting out and losing power in which Nissan could not find the problem they have finally found the problem. I took it to them a week ago while it was playing up and they tell me it’s the fuel pump. Great! Let’s get a new pump and it will be sorted, 20 working day to get one from Europe. What a joke! Then two days later or something they just happen to find 2 in Melbourne. In the mean time I have asked for a courtesy car as my piece of junk has been useless to me and my family {this going on for 2-3 months}. Now the place that’s doing the repairs have the pump and parts that were approved by Nissan. But now Nissan have done a back flip and told them not to touch the car {after it was sitting at Nissan for three days and didn't get touched}. Now they want to replace the fuel rail. What For? When the mechanic diagnosed it as the fuel pump, now I got to wait until the fuel rail gets here. So now I will have to wait who knows how long for that, and all without a car. I'm fed up with this company and its product. I will not buy this brand ever again and I will certainly be going out of my way to voice my opinion to anyone who has thoughts of buying this model. I should have bought with my heart and not my head, a Ford." POSTED BY: SCOTT MCINTYRE - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 15 SEP 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott, I understand your frustration. You should, in writing, ask some questions of Nissan Australia. Like why they are changing the fuel rail when the pump was diagnosed as the problem. Also ask why it takes so long for repairs to be carried out. Let them know that being without your work vehicle for days or weeks and having this problem for 3 months is totaly unacceptable and that you want to be compensated for it. Hopefully you might get a free service out of it. Post on this site how the Navara is after the repairs. Good Luck, Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 16 SEP 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott, I bought a Nissan Navara ST-X Turbo Diesel ONE week ago and it’s currently now back at the dealership getting fixed. I spotted Diesel leaking from underneath and called the Care line for a tow (from the country I might add, I wasn't happy at all). Now it’s in at the dealership and they said that I need a new Fuel Injection pump and it could take a few days. I'm so mad that I might have just bought a Lemon of a car so I’m looking for anyone who might have had other issues with the brand. I don't believe the dealership at all (according to them my car it the first in Australia to have a problem, what a lot of **** I thought). I have been doing a bit of research and found out Australia have no laws against dealerships selling lemon cars (Stupid Government). Although I have started a log of every time it goes in to the dealership and how long etc. It’s only One Week Old. If you know of any other issues I should keep a eye out for let me know and while it’s under warranty I'm going to be the most annoying customer ever Tanya POSTED BY: TANYA WILKINSON - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 9 OCT 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Scott I purchased a D40 STX Turbo Diesel Auto in Jan last year. What a pile of junk. I had mine for 9 months. It was in the workshop for warranty repairs for 5 days out of every 15 working days & I used it as my business car. Check out the UK forums on these things. They are still having the same warranty issues here that they had in the UK 2 years ago. Guess what Nissan Australia response is? My advice - get it back & get rid of it. Tell them you’re going to sell it & they will have the parts straight away. I was told the heat shields would be three weeks away, after telling Nissan HQ what I was going to do after their appalling service they found the parts at the dealership within 1 hour. This model is a Lemon but our weak govt will not do anything about it. Check the 4wd forums in this country & do a search for D40 problems you are not alone. Hope you get it sorted. Mike. FORD FALCON EA 0: EA WAGON LPG TANK SHAMBLES *FEEDBACK WANTED* |

ISSUE: |
I've just had our EA wagon put on gas and so very pleased with how it runs. Sadly the tanks sit up an inch higher than the surrounding floor of the back of the wagon and the fibreboard sheet that covers the spare wheel well (where the tanks are installed) sits up extra high. They cut a hole out of it to allow the control box to poke through. There are 3 cylindrical tanks welded together side by side. |

========== REPLY ========== Hi Lillian, All convertible Astras have problems with their roofs. That might sound like a generalisation but it's true. Michele P might jump in here to let you know about her Astra convertible problems since it was new. Frankly, I see your torn roof that your insurance repaired as a completely different problem to a hydraulic leak or it seizing. However, if your insurance offered a lifetime guarantee on the whole roof mechanism, then their claim about it being tampered with, although you were operating it, is ridiculous. I'd be demanding to speak to the most senior person you can get a hold of at your insurers and ask them to put in writing that they say you are a liar and the roof didn’t seize while you were operating it. Let them know that you will be taking the matter to the insurance ombudsman if they don’t immediately agree to fix the problem. Good Luck, Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 24 DEC 2008 ========== REPLY ========== As Mark mentions I had nothing but major problems with my 2005 soft top. My roof never worked properly from day & they had to replace the whole roof at a cost to Holden of $22k, but it took some doing & a lot of calls to Holden H/O & my dealer. I had many more serious problems with this car as well, you should look back of my previous postings. Getting your insurance company to fix the roof is your best bet as Holden don't give a **** & will only tell you to cut your losses & sell it. Another girl on this site Madonna had her roof do the same under warranty with the hydraulic oil damaging the leather seats & again Holden could not careless & her dealer had no idea how to fix the roof. I now own & not by choice the new Twin Top & guess what the roof on this has never worked properly from day one. It was back off the road within 2 weeks for repairs & off the road every month since. And like the soft tops they have no idea how to fix them. The mechanics at my dealer told me my Twin Top needs to be taken out the back & set alight. Also staff in the customer service dept mentioned they would never buy a Holden. I am trying to sell mine, but no luck so far. But get rid of the car as soon as you can. Owning a Holden is not worth the stress they cause. POSTED BY: MICHELLE - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 9 JAN 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hi Lillian, I am in a similar situation with my 2003 Astra Convertible. Mine has broken twice in 5 years (had it since new) and this time they said it was leaking hydraulic oil. It didn't spurt through the car, but it caused the roof to seize half way like you described. Holden fixed it for a fee of $3000 but when I went to pick it up they informed me that the clips that lock in the roof also need replacing at a cost of $2200 plus labour! So I essentially paid the $3000 for a roof that closed, but didn't always lock in properly. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't. I used it twice and on the second time it stopped 15cm from closing and wouldn't go any further. I have had to force it down as best I can so it can be driven but it is now sticking up on one side and the passenger window can't be closed properly! I'm So Over This Piece Of **** Car! POSTED BY: NICOLE WENBAN - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 4 FEB 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hi I own a 2002 Astra Convertible. Not long after purchasing the car a year ago, one of the hydraulic lines blew oil everywhere while the roof was being put up. After Holden fixed it for a cost of over $1200 for the replacement of the plastic line itself + labour costs a second line blew two weeks later. I was at my wits end and contacted friends at Race auto. They contacted the Hose Doctor and my second hose was replaced for $220. This time however instead of replacing the Hydraulic hose with the same plastic hose that Holden used, it was replaced with a Metal Calibrated line. The hose will now never break again. It has been working perfectly for a year. As for the locking down of the roof, it is actually a spring on the side that is usually undone to allow work on the roof. If the spring is not re connected then the catch won’t catch. Funny but the hose doctor guy said Holden had actually called him to their workshop the first time to replace the plastic hose, he could not believe what they had charged me. Getting R.A.C.E to repair my car and do my services does not void my warranty. I will never go back to Holden for fixes or services. Our second car is a 2008 Captiva and has been back for 7 faults this year. Boo Holden. Jennifer POSTED BY: JENNIFER - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 5 MAR 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Lilian Can you please post which insurance company refused your claim? This is so that I can add it to my personal list of **** companies Not to deal with. I try to spread the word around on the internet and through people I meet. I am sorry I cannot help you with your problem. POSTED BY: E NAR - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 6 MAR 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Nicole, I have just read your Email, a very disappointing outcome for you. I run a franchise of Pirtek Transfer Solutions and for a few years now we have been carrying out repairs to the Hydraulic hoses on Holden Astra Convertibles of your vintage and newer. There are usually two hoses that blow out on all of them that we have seen and we repair them with a join in the affected hose and a new section where the problem occurred. We usually do the repair for about $240.00 per hose including GST and it takes about 2 hours for each one. If only one hose blows there is only a need to fix the one hose and in my experience it is always one of the hoses that connects to the hydraulic cylinders that lift the rear section of the roof. A customer can elect to fix only the one that has blown or do both at the same time. We usually just do one but then in 3 to 6 months if the customer still owns the car we usually see it again to fix the hose on the other side of the car. Most of the hoses when we inspect the cars are in good condition and in my opinion do not need replacing. This is supported by the fact that in all the cars we have worked on, all have the same two hoses with exactly the same problem. We can only fix the hydraulic problems which are the usual problem that cause what you describe about the roof stopping when trying to operate them however, we have come across damage to the locking devices which are above the windscreen from over tightening the manual locking mechanism. We unfortunately cannot assist with these issues and it sounds like that is the problem you've been left with. This is for your information but by all means pass it on or report it, if you wish. As I'm from a company touting our business capabilities, this Email may not be approved and published on this web-site. I view my comments only as assistance to anyone who does not feel like paying for the motor industries trade practice of replacing the whole thing when only a small part requires repair. Regards Alan Seymour POSTED BY: ALAN SEYMOUR - RYDALMERE, NSW - AUS 19 AUG 2009 ========== REPLY ========== Hi, I have had the same problem as Jennifer, I own a 2002 Holden Astra and the hydraulic has gone on my car, Holden have quoted $1600.00 to repair it! I am interested in knowing about the Race Auto people to get in touch with The Hose Doctor... Please!
