MAZDA 3 2006: RE: TYRE NOISE *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
It’s not a legal problem. It's purely an insurance problem. The speed limit in most states is 110kph as a maximum. Always check with your insurance company and get their response in writing if you are going to change to a lower speed rating tyre than what was fitted as original equipment. |

========== REPLY ========== These tyres sound like they'd cure high tyre noise in a Ford Focus as well, but they only appear to come with a H speed rating (i.e. 195/65/15R 91H whereas my car takes 195/65/15R 91V. I think H is rated 210/kph while V is rated 240 kph). I believe you could run into trouble (such as having insurance refused) if you lower the speed rating of your tyres from that recommended on the tyre placard fitted to the car. Certainly you should not mix tyres with different speed ratings on one car. Does anyone know the legalities of fitting a lower speed rated tyre to your car? POSTED BY: JOHN - CANBERRA, ACT - AUS 25 OCT 2008 ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "MAZDA 3 ASTINA 2006: TYRE NOISE - To Everyone who has issues/problems with tyre noise here’s the easy answer: as we are now on our 4th Mazda we've got to know what works etc, as Mazda says, switch tyre brand and size, e.g. Toyo Transas Teo, 215/60/15. Bingo, noise gone, ride improved, mileage better (a little) handling improved. Listen to the service guy (and me)." POSTED BY: BRUCE HENNESSY - BRISBANE, QLD - AUS 15 OCT 2008 |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "Hi guys I have AU Falcon which rattles on take off when first started. I live on very steep hill and when engine is under strain rattle is quite noisy. Seems to go when engine is warm not sure if timing or something else. Motor has done 270,000km, any advice would be great cheers David." POSTED BY: DAVID ERSKINE - MELBOURNE, VIC, AUS 25 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Hi David. Is the noise coming from the front of the motor? Possible timing chain / tensioner / broken rail. Is the oil level correct? Too high will cause crank slap on steep hills. Is the noise from the rear of the motor? Possible catalytic converter broken up/ Auto? Possibly loose converter bolt/ bolts. A few things to try! Dav POSTED BY: L DAVIS - BOMADERRY, NSW - AUS 26 OCT 2008 |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "TOYOTA COROLLA ACCENT 2004: CAR JERKS FORWARD WITH POWER THRUST WHEN BRAKING - Hi, Can anyone out there give me an answer for this problem? Toyota cannot. Have automatic 2004 Corolla. Problem happens only occasionally and randomly. So cannot make it happen for mechanic to see. When I brake and stop at a round about or give way sign and have my foot on the brake holding the car stationary. A surge of power/thrust appears out of nowhere and jerks the car forward and I have to jam my foot flat to the floor to stop hitting car in front of me. It is like someone pulls the choke on... but I have an auto choke. You can hear the almost like acceleration sound of the engine. Any advice appreciated. Has done this randomly since new and am worried to drive in the city with it. Cheers, Nat " POSTED BY: NAT BOEHM - GOULBURN, NSW - AUS 27 OCT 2008 |

HONDA ACCORD EURO 2008: INACCURATE SPEEDOMETER READINGS *COMPLAINT* |
||
ISSUE: |
My first Honda Accord Euro (purchased Jan 04) was a good experience with only one exception - an inaccurate speedometer reading. Tested by RAA it was 6% out. Put up with the problem for 4 1/2 years then uptraded to a brand new 2008 Euro. Again had the instrumentation tested and the new car is Worse! What are Honda thinking? They refuse to help or do anything, hiding behind the ADRs which allow a 10% plus 4 kmph overstatement. While this ensures that no speeding fines should result, there is a decided danger of a car hitting you from behind because you are travelling at a so slower speed than what is shown on the speedometer. It is really frustrating, annoying, and dangerous. |

|
========== REPLY ========== Unfortunately Colin, it is not a case of hiding behind ADR's. The newest ADR states that the speedo must read faster than the vehicles actual speed. Every manufacturer is in the same boat with this one. The ADR no is: 18/03. It actually allows far greater than 10% accuracy. Not fun I know, but the law it is. Regards, Jay. ========== REPLY ========== Hi. Hope I can help. I have a late 2004 SRi Barina & had taken it to the Holden Dealer in Bendigo dozens of times, sometimes for a week at a time. They replaced every electrical part under the bonnet, wiring looms, computer etc. Pulled the dash out you name it they did it. The car would run fine when running then if the battery light came on & sometimes some of the dash gauges would also drop, you would know that it wouldn't start again for a while if you turned it off. It stranded me over a period of two & a half years maybe 300+ times at petrol stations, car parks, at home etc... etc. Most of the time it would come good a few minutes to 15 minutes later. But 2 or 3 times mainly towards the end it wouldn't start for a couple of days. It would never go longer than a week without a fault, but mostly would fault every day. Then they finally found the fault... something to do with a bad earth connection around or under the fuse box area, they soldered the connection. Since then it hasn't faulted in 8 months. Other than that glitch, it's been a fantastic car & I love it. So have your dealer contact the service department at Ron Poyser Holden Bendigo. They'll know all about a Red SRi that had an electrical fault. PS: Although the fault was a major hassle the service department at Holden in Bendigo was fantastic & all cost for parts & labour were covered under warranty. Great News Dale, sound like you have got some action from Kia at last! We bought our 2002 Carnival new and have had it serviced all the time. We noticed an oil leak at about 30,000kms, thought they would have to tighten a bolt or something. Instead they pulled the engine out and 3 months later put a reconditioned short engine in the car and gave it back at no cost to us apart from no car for 3 months. |

VOLKSWAGEN GTI 2008: RE: ROCKER ARM BROKE OFF AND FELL IN CAMSHAFT *UPDATE* |
||
ISSUE: |
In the problem with the GTI and the broken rocker-arm. The dealership myself and Volkswagon all ended up splitting 1/3 of the total cost. They said they wouldnt cover it if it ever happened again, but it was suspicious that they covered it this time(mostly at least). Maybe it was because i wouldnt give up on the matter and continued to harrass them. Either way, cars running good as new and it ended up costing me a little over a grand. Thanks |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "VOLKSWAGEN GTI 2008: ROCKER ARM BROKE OFF AND FELL IN CAMSHAFT - Help! My brand new GTI of 2 weeks developed a ticking sound. I took it to the dealer and he says I must have revved it past the redline and decelerated incorrectly so the rocker arm broke off and fell into the camshaft doing major damage. He says it is NOT under warranty. He says it could have happened as a mistake if I went from 5th gear to 2nd instead of 4th. Hey I don't remember it and you'd think it would make a heck of a sound if it happened as suddenly as he says. It's been in the shop a month waiting for parts from Germany and they say it will cost me between $1500 - $2000 for repairs. Anybody else hear of any other problems with rocker arms? or problems decelerating? anythink related? Is this a defect in design? I am an experienced driver and nothing like this has ever happened to me before." POSTED BY: JOSH DESLAURIERS - NEW KENSINGTON, USA 27 JUN 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Josh, I think you are being fed lies by the dealership. I would have thought that these cars would have a rev limiter installed so that it can’t be over revved. If you heard a ticking noise before it went bang, then that would indicate that something was loose. I'd be fighting it all the way. Send an email to VW in Germany expressing your dissatisfaction and disappointment with the car and the dealership. Good Luck, Mark POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 29 JUN 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Josh, I would go to the dealer and retrieve the broken rocker arm so that you have it in Your possession so that you have the option of getting third party opinion. They won't have thrown it out but equally won't want to hand it over to you. If they refuse, just ask them why they still want it since they seem to have already made their decision in rejecting your warranty claim. If you are up for thousands then sending it to a metallurgy lab for an opinion might be a good investment, but I wouldn't tell them that. POSTED BY: DAVID - TWEED HEADS, NSW - AUS 30 JUN 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Hey Josh, I think that their contribution to the repair cost is an admission of guilt. Well done for getting a good result. Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 31 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Don't Listen to the **** what they are spilling out, it’s under warranty. They have limiters in place to stop this. Take them to court! Don’t take any **** off them. I have a GTi and it does not have a limiter on it. Took it to 245, not had one problem with it. Goes like a dream and no speaker noises as people complain about. Don’t stop go further. Joe POSTED BY: JOE - WINDAROO, QLD - AUS 17 JUL 2009 |

FORD FALCON BA 2003: LOUD CRACK/SLAP/RATTLE NOISE WHEN GOING OVER A LITTLE BUMP IN THE ROAD *FEEDBACK WANTED* |

This is the second Falcon BA I have had this problem with. When ever I go over a small bump (not a speed hump) in the road I get a loud crack/slap noise from the rear end. ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "FORD FALCON BA XT 2003: BONNET RELEASE CABLE WEAR - ANYONE ELSE? - On my 60,000km service visit recently (dealer), I was advised I'd have to take my Falcon (sedan) back to get the bonnet release cable replaced ($200 because it's out of warranty). Apparently the bonnet release cable clips onto the fuse box and flicks the fuse box when released, causing wear. Additionally, I was told they'd have to check the fuse box cover to see if it needed replacing (another $200!). Has anyone else had this problem? (I am going to get a second opinion from my trusty Kmart Auto people)." POSTED BY: A COIA - RINGWOOD, VIC - AUS 15 MAR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Common. Also, be careful. Don't open bonnet from outside car, I am told it might break cable mount to fuse box. If it breaks, you have to replace fuse box. POSTED BY: C WALLIS - GLADSTONE, QLD - AUS 16 MAR 2007 ========== REPLY ========== Yes have had the same problem with the Bonnet catch. New Ford BA 2004 Falcon, unable to open bonnet because of broken bonnet catch. How can people keep their trust in Ford when they can't get the little things right! POSTED BY: LINDZ - WYNDHAM, WA - AUS 21 JUN 2007 ========== REPLY ========== I have Falcon 2004 BA model ...and the very same problem. It cost close to $400 in total to fix. The problem was the Ford dealership broke this and did not tell me. The car was in for another unrelated problem so to my surprise when I needed to open the bonnet, I could not. Not only did Ford let down their valued customers by design fault, but in my case did not even tell me that they broke it. I would be willing to pay for it then (wear and tear after all), but after their cover-up they can fix it! POSTED BY: A HAMILTON - AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND 5 DEC 2007 ========== REPLY ========== What about the fact that I was picking up my son from his school in the city, so parked up for the allowed 15 mins in the multistory car park. Came back and my battery was flat, I couldn't open the bonnet and then because it was a tight car park, someone ended up reversing into me scratching two panels! So, the faulty cable ended up causing me to join the NRMA ($300), repair to my paintwork ($500), new battery ($150) and now it looks like the cable repair will be $200 - $400. Of course the car park attendant also charged me $26 for being in the car park longer than my allowed 15 mins grace for picking up my son! All at 38 weeks pregnant with my 6 year old son in the car! Well I feel better for venting, but financially still worse off! POSTED BY: DEBORAH - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 25 MAR 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I have had something similar where I pulled so hard I broke the handle and a couple of little clips on the fuse block. I went to the Ford dealer who seemed quite familiar with the problem but no offer of replacement of warranty. I have had to buy a new hood release mechanism and will have to fit it. I have complained to Ford suggesting this is a design flaw but they have not responded. At least the new one looks like an improved model and designed the way it should have been in the first place. First of all we were no told that because we have the Bose stereo that it was not compatible with the speakers of the Bose system and an external speaker has to be mounted (concealed neat package). The second thing is that if you have the most common phone on the market (Nokia) then if it loses signal, signal changes towers or touch a button etc on the phone then it cuts the radio/cd/mp3 player off(no sound). Most third party Bluetooths allow you to play with the phone and it doesn't cut the radio out until you send or receive. Third if you are travelling at highway speed and the phone rings you have to pull over to hear what people were saying because the road noise was elevated. I have asked Mazda to take it out and I will put in a third party unit that would be compatible with my stereo, but no satisfaction yet / plus the missus likes it even with these annoying faults. Funny thing is they say it works perfectly in the cheaper stereos they have in lesser models. This is a good car, top of the line and we can’t get, what is considered in today's society as necessary standard equipment working correctly." ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "KIA CARNIVAL LS 2004: MOTOR NO GOOD SERVICE NO GOOD - We have just spent $10,000 getting a new motor for our Carnival. A lot of money for anyone. We were quoted $2,000 for a recon short motor with no guarantee that the heads would not be damaged. For a recon short motor with two new heads would be $6,000 from Qld. We got an oil sample done on the oil in the car and an independent person said to me that the radiator was leaking coolant into the motor causing our engine to seize, we get our car serviced regularly. We started having problems with the coolant level not lasting more than a few days, hence the oil sample. We got a quote from Perth for a new motor (genuine Kia motor) for $6,000 plus $3,000 to install motor with some extra parts that would need replacing (at a cost to us). Well we just got the car back and only done about 2,000km and now the radiator is playing up again. Great! Does that mean that when the motor blows again we have to pay another $10,000 to get it fixed? ($6,000 + GST + freight to Darwin) What do I get told by Kia try getting a new radiator cap till you can get into the dealership (the wife is on the road to Alice Springs for a week great help that is). Am at wits end. I know there is not much I can do but does anyone have any suggestions? Please help if you can, many thanks. Wayne " POSTED BY: WAYNE MARTIN - DARWIN, NT - AUS 10 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Wayne Sorry to hear your story. I suspect your failure is a result of a classic fault with all KIA engines where the cylinder liners slip/move allowing the ingress of oil to mix with the engine coolant forming a messy sludge in the coolant system that can cause overheating in some cases although the majority of vehicle / engine failures show no signs of overheating prior to failure. I think your mechanic is only guessing the cause? (If you check your coolant overflow tank & there is an oily sludge you are another victim of "Kia Quality") Reply back to me & I will forward some info that may assist. You need to do the following. Go into much more detail on your story you can't put down too much, detail everything & then re post these revised details on this website, doing this keeps everyone more informed (KM's when bought, who from, has KIA knocked you back etc, Oil in Coolant? water in oil, etc etc.) 1) Lodge a formal request via your local KIA dealer for KIA to repair the vehicle at their cost. (Insist they lodge a request with KIA to repair the vehicle at KIA's Cost. they will try & fob you off that you are wasting your time etc) In your case this may be too late as you have already fixed the engine in which case you would have to request reimbursement of your costs from KIA 2) Lodge a formal complaint with NT fair trading. 3) Never believe anything KIA will tell you (They will misrepresent the truth) 4) Do everything in writing & politely request everyone confirm their answers / replies to you in writing. 5) Rest assured you are not on your own there are thousands before you that have been through this & unfortunately there will be many more. They said the catalytic converter is so sensitive & cause this to happen. In NSW the car was refused rego because of the light for environmental reasons. Anyway after several services & visits for diagnosis, they decided that the Oxygen sensor needed replacing at a cost of $500. This did not fix the problem, the light came back on, they now want $1200 to replace the ECU. This car also had an extended warranty under which they accepted the vehicle for services, but as soon as the major problem was noticed, they have cancelled the extended warranty. Well it finally happened, 6 weeks after getting car back from mechanics coolant and water became friends, car’s ****. Went totally off at mechanic and car dealer for not doing the job properly in the first place and now I’m finally getting a new short motor in car at no cost to me. The car has been at mechanics for 3 weeks already, heads taken off, checked, only to find nothing wrong with them but the cylinder sleeves ****, now have been told could be another 3 weeks before motor is available, so the car could be off the road 6-7 weeks. Kia informed car dealer 60 motors are on their way with half of them sold already. Good to know so many cars need repairs, makes you feel so special to part of the Kia lemon club... NOT. The information I’ve got from this site has helped me get the result I did and I thank you and everyone. Once we get the car back it’s gone, the car yard and mechanic have both told me they won’t warrant the motor after this and even the extended warranty company I got with the car won’t warrant the motor as it’s a "Manufacturer fault". The only warranty will be from Kia, what’s that’s 12 months at best. Please send me all that is required to be part of the class action that’s being put together. Thanks Gayleen Hopkins. ========== REPLY ========== I assume you have the factory standard tyres. Have you had a wheel alignment? Also try swapping the front tyres to the opposite side of the car. POSTED BY: GEOFF - ADELAIDE, SA - AUS 15 DEC 2008 |

TOYOTA PRADO 3L TD 2007: RE: ENGINE RATTLES WHEN COLD AND UNDER SLIGHT LOAD *REPLY* |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "TOYOTA PRADO 2007: ENGINE RATTLES WHEN COLD AND UNDER SLIGHT LOAD - When cold and going up a slight grade there is a definite engine rattle. In days gone by it would be described as rocker noise however this is a fuel injected engine! After the engine warms up this noise disappears. Is it anything to worry about? The dealer said he could not hear it (surprise, surprise!) and wonder if this has been experienced by any other Prado diesel owner? Engine has done 20,000 km. Thanks." POSTED BY: GEOFF LE COUTEUR - LOWER PLENTY, VIC - AUS 8 SEP 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Contact your local dealer as dealers reporting this problem to Toyota Tech Help will receive advice on how to repair this issue. It involves replacing 4 injectors and reprogramming the ECU. This is not a recall but can be claimed by the dealer under warranty as not all Prado's or Hilux's do this (same engine). Early fix for this was to diagnose which injector was the problem and replace it. It is not just a Toyota problem as it affects a few common rail systems. HOLDEN COMMODORE 2008: TRANS/TRIM AND HEAD *COMPLAINT* |
||
ISSUE: |
Well this lemon has had a transmission replacement, a head replaced, and the front passenger door trim, glove box door, and rear door trim replaced. Every time the dealer rep says he has not heard of this problem before, muhahaaa. I have two friends with the same models and similar issues. I want to know what happens when the warranty runs out. Please report similar issues and moderators please publish so readers see the truth. |

FORD FALCON 2006: 8AM TO 8PM SALE NO ONE THERE! *COMPLAINT* |
||
ISSUE: |
I went to my local western Sydney Ford dealership 2 weeks ago as they advertised in the local paper that they would be open from 8am till 8pm and had huge savings on. I left my home at 7.35am after a healthy breakfast of just right and orange juice and my usual 5km run around Panthers Leagues Club and made my way there. Let me tell I was little peeved after waiting 30 minutes and spare parts was not open. |

========== REPLY ========== Yes I too had the same problem. As I work until 4pm on a Saturday I thought what a great time to stay open as I wanted to buy a boot lid and spray it that night. I turned up at around 4.45pm and spare parts was shut. False advertising indeed! POSTED BY: GEORGE CAREY - LOWER EMU PLAINS, NSW - AUS 2 NOV 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I was filming World Safari 4 when we were having a break at Penrith Plaza reading the local newspaper. My cameraman Wesley Brennan spotted that this place was open till late so we decided to stop in and get 2 spare fan belts coolant and oil. On arriving there just after 5pm the spare parts department was shut. So yeah we were disappointed as well as the newspaper said it would be open till 8pm. Luckily we made it across the border and got the supplies from Repco the next day. Poor service as they should have been open till 8pm. I too noticed 3 empty tooheys new long necks there. I think they have a problem with alcohol there. Regards Alby Mangels POSTED BY: ALBY MANGELS - BROOME, WA - AUS 2 NOV 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Hi my name is PK, I was working in spare parts that day. Yes I was a little late as my offside Blake didn't tell me he was staying at Glenmore Park rather than closer by so that was why I was running late. I was led to believe that car sales were only open 8am to 8pm that is why I left at around 4 30pm on the Saturday. The long necks yeah well that’s another story though I did go to Harold Park the night before with my good friends Stephen Casey and Troy Williamson. I sincerely apologise to anyone that wanted spare parts that day. Good luck with the documentary Alby, sorry I didn't get a photo with you. See you next time PK. KIA CARNIVAL 2003: WE PAID $34,000 FOR A CAR THAT 5 YEARS ON IS WORTHLESS. *FEEDBACK WANTED* |

ISSUE: |
Who should I be suing? We paid $34,000 for a people mover which had a good review from people who had one. We did the right thing & had regular services by the book. @ 110,000km it died & since we have found out is absolutely worthless. Can anyone tell me if there is someone I can sue...? |

========== REPLY ========== Do a search and join the hundreds that are/have suffered your issues... KIA is a lemon, in fact a lemon tree... POSTED BY: CUSTER - LOCATION NOT SUPPLIED 28 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Pam I suspect your failure is a result of a classic fault with all KIA engines where the cylinder liners slip/move allowing the ingress of oil to mix with the engine coolant forming a messy sludge in the coolant system that can cause overheating in some cases although the majority of vehicle / engine failures show no signs of overheating prior to failure. Reply back to me & I will forward some info that may assist. You need to do the following. Go into much more detail on your story you can't put down too much, detail everything & then re post these revised details on this website, doing this keeps everyone more informed (KM's when bought, who from, has KIA knocked you back etc, Oil in Coolant? water in oil, etc etc.). Have you taken it to a KIA dealer? Did a KIA dealer do the 100K service? Have you fixed the engine? 1) Lodge a formal request via your local KIA dealer for KIA to repair the vehicle at their cost. (Insist they lodge a request with KIA to repair the vehicle at KIA's Cost. they will try & fob you off that you are wasting your time etc). It may be too late if you have already fixed the engine in which case you would have to request reimbursement of your costs from KIA. 2) Lodge a formal complaint with NSW fair trading. 3) Never believe anything KIA will tell you (They will misrepresent the truth). 4) Do everything in writing & politely request everyone confirm their answers / replies to you in writing. 5) Rest assured you are not on your own there are thousands before you that have been through this & unfortunately there will be many more. 6) Don’t phone the KIA customer service line. This is manned by a company called Monodial whose job is to get rid of you so don't bother speaking to them. Dale POSTED BY: DALE MORRIS - WOODVALE, WA - AUS 28 OCT 2008 |

TOYOTA COROLLA ACCENT 2004: CAR JERKS FORWARD WITH POWER THRUST WHEN BRAKING *FEEDBACK WANTED* |
||
ISSUE: |
Hi, |

========== REPLY ========== Have you noticed if this occurs with the Air Conditioning turned on? If so, I might be able to explain: The air con compressor draws power from the engine. As the compressor cuts in to cool the air, it draws a few kilowatts out of the engine. The engine's computer senses this due to the added load & the drop in revs. It then tries to compensate & bring the revs back up. This can cause a surge feeling in the car. The air con compressor cycles in/out frequently during use depending on temp outside & requirements on the system. I have experienced a car jerking forward from this with only the handbrake applied, but it shouldn’t really move if the brakes are applied properly. I hope this helps a little. Regards, Jay. HOLDEN BARINA SWING SB 1995: RE: STALLS A LOT WHEN CHANGING GEARS, REVS HIGH, STALLS WHEN IDLE.... *REPLY* |
||
ISSUE: |
This might help, Holden have found the temperature sensor gauge was broken therefore stuck on 90 degrees. It was making the engine run too hot / too cool therefore also flooding fuel tank (bad fuel smell was coming from exhaust) causing it to stall. After replacing the sensor $230 it has been running ok (well for now) and not stalling, so perhaps this is something to check if your Barina is still stalling. Watch the temperature needle drop when turning off engine, if it doesn't move or something might be worth checking out? Fuel economy has also benefited! |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "HOLDEN BARINA SWING SB 1995: STALLS A LOT WHEN CHANGING GEARS, REVS HIGH, STALLS WHEN IDLE... - We have a 95 Auto Barina Swing (Opel motor), frustrating problem, happens approx 80% of time, other 20% runs fine. Can be sluggish to start, from park when changing gears (put into drive or reverse) when release handbrake, accelerate, often stalls. Can take several attempts to get going. Also revs very high, and also stalls sometimes when idle say at intersections/lights. Has been to several mechanics, 2 Holden service centres. Problem still not resolved, therefore a safety issue now. When running, the car can run like a dream. Unpredictable. Holden replaced spark plugs as they excessive gaps and after replacing for 2 weeks did not stall (however now has started to do it again!). They drained throttle seal plug and have also replaced vacuum line hose was split. Extremely frustrating as no fault codes appear, and fuel pressure also tested. If anyone has similar problem with same model please let me know. Reading here there seems to be a variety of similar problems with this make… I guess it’s another trip to Holden!" POSTED BY: B B - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 20 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== I am having the same issue! My 1998 Barina had 155,000kms and it stalled on me, so had it serviced the next day. The slimy mechanic told me I needed $2,500 worth of work done, so I said no please just service. It was fine, until I needed my 165,000 service (which I waited until 167,500km to do) and it was working great for two weeks, now stalling again. I asked them to replace spark plugs, oil, fuel and air filters. They couldn't work out why it would stall and said to bring it back if it does. So now will be bringing it back. It is fine while driving, but after 45 mins (commute to work, then home) when slowing down coming off the highway it stalls when down shifting. Also when idling and driving slowly (in traffic) there is a strong exhaust smell. Cannot afford new car, anyone know how to fix? POSTED BY: KATIE FREELEY - HELENSVALE, QLD - AUS 21 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Try EGR valve? My one got same problem before. Engine computer didn't like a faulty EGR and cut off the engine by itself. Also couldn't scan out the code for it. Did a research on web and it is a very common problem with Barina. ========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "NISSAN NAVARA D22 2006: LOST POWER NOW SLOW AND USES MORE FUEL - Was very happy with the power my Navara 3L turbo diesel had but after it reached 20000km (not to be exact) it seems to be like a snail! Going up slight hill 5th gear, foot flat to the floor and speedo goes backwards. Was not like this before! Changed fuel filter (no difference) sent into dealer, all systems (computer) check no fault returned. Sent in again this time they tested EGR, Boost sensor, wastegate, fuel supply, turbo boost (15psi), and road tested with another ute and claim mine has more power. No result, still the same! Uses more fuel use to get 600-700km now 500-600km! Has anyone else had this problem? It’s frustrating knowing that the ute had good power now I am worried overtaking a road train. Any Advice would be much appreciated." POSTED BY: PATRICK HALL - ALBANY, WA - AUS 24 JUL 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Hey you may have solved the problem by now, try a good fuel additive - Nulon or Pro Mar, both good clean up glazzing which builds up in the engine and slows you down. Good luck, Darren. POSTED BY: DARREN - TAREE, NSW - AUS 25 JUL 2008 ========== REPLY ========== This was posted a few weeks ago: It has worked for a few people so far. 1. Rev engine briefly to red line (you can't hurt it because the governor kicks in at red line). 2. Continue to drive normally With Full Power Now Attained. If this works for you, please post reply on this site. Good Luck, Mark. POSTED BY: MARK KURAN - MELBOURNE, VIC - AUS 25 JUL 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Have you solved the low power issue yet? My 04 navara is doing exactly what you describe, but mine has an even worse gremlin. When on a 2 hr trip towing a caravan, an hour in the ute suffered power loss, that foot flat to the floor in 4th gear it would not even hold 80kms/hr. Any info will be greatly appreciated Cheers, Andrew POSTED BY: ANDREW JOLLY - BAROSSA VALLEY, SA - AUS 9 AUG 2008 |

========== ORIGINAL POSTING ========== "NISSAN NAVARA D40 2007: CLUTCH AND GEAR PROBLEMS - I run a small business and we need a reliable vehicle so I sold my Patrol of 16 year and got a Navara Diesel 2.5ltr 6 speed manual. 3000km in clutch goes. Approx 11,000km in clutch and flywheel replaced. Now have special Flywheel and new clutch Nissan hope will fix the problem. Now 36,000km in and Gear change between 2nd and 3rd having problems so back she goes again. Oil changed in gear box and adjusted. Cab fills with gear oil smells so bad that made us sick. Back to service and told that the cover on the gear stick had come off and they fixed it. **** went 50km and same problem, smell that bad had to stop 3 times and get fresh air with all windows down until back at service center. Wrong oil in gear box. I now would like Nissan to take this Lemon back. Losing money with this vehicle being off the road and worrying about if it will get the job done or what will go wrong next." POSTED BY: DAVID GRIFFIN - LILYDALE, VIC - AUS 24 OCT 2008 ========== REPLY ========== Disappointing! I had similar issues at approx 12,000kms only to be told by DC Motors that it was "acceptable wear and tear" and perhaps I should reconsider where I drive the vehicle. After about 3 weeks of arguing, they agreed to replace it. Just stumbled across this site... nice to know I am not the only person who has had problems!
