I quickly discovered three "good" modulators in Melbourne no problems. I don’t believe this is a site for selling goods but I will offer for sale my brand new still sealed out of date ABS modulator that will kill the three amigos. I am based in Melbourne & want **** for the new one. I will also give the address of other people with good secondhand units you might use. People with intermittent lights that turn off after restarting the car probably need to fix the rear suspension i.e. air bags and or shockers (read my other posts) e-mail me for further info."

NISSAN PATROL  1998:  ENGINE DOES NOT REV OR ACCELERATE WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

31/07/2008

ISSUE:
ACCELERATOR

Hello,

After cranking and idling my Patrol, I am unable to rev the engine (thus unable to drive). When I press the accelerator, the engine sounds like it’s trying to sputter out, but never does; it just sounds weak. When I pump the accelerator expecting the engine to rev, it doesn't, but instead it almost sounds like it’s flooding. It would probably be possible to drive the car to a shop in idle, but I'm sure this is a bad idea. Does this sound like a bad ECM module, fuel pump, some part of the vacuum network, or something else? Also, is there a way to check the codes from the dash (like some Toyota's)?

Thanks in advance for your help.

John

You don’t say if your Patrol is a petrol or diesel model. It sounds like a throttle position switch and oxygen sensor if it's a petrol engine. You need someone with a decoder to plug into the check connector to check the fault codes. Doesn’t have to be a Nissan dealer but the mechanic will need to the decoder tool.

Good Luck,
Mark

It is amazing to read how many problems these lemons are giving people. My fiancée owns a 2005 Astra Convertible and has the car back to the dealers over ten times in just the last couple of months over problems with the roof not going down. Other problems include the radio packing up, the air con not turning off when the car is turned off, indicators not working and the seat upholstery splitting after just 46,000 kms of use.

Have just e-mailed Today Tonight and was just wondering if you got any response from them when you did so.

Cheers

"HOLDEN ASTRA 2005: ASTRA CONVERTIBLE - LATEST UPDATE ON MY PIECE OF **** - Just to keep you updated with my ongoing problems. After Holden ignored my emails, my dealer Zupps contacted Holden as they were appalled over the amount of problems with my car & that Holden were doing nothing about it & got a Holden Rep out to look at it & even he was shocked. But they just want to take my car off the road for another week to try & fix some of it's problems & order in parts to fix the rest. But I just either want my money back or the car replaced.

The car has not been right from day 1 & is a total lemon & has it sign written accordingly. This is the list of problems that are being looked at next week. I also have it advertised on carsales with photo's listing all of its problems & even sent the link to Holden, but again no response.

I think Holden think that if they ignore you long enough, that you get sick on it & go away or sell the car. I have had other owners contact me, who have told me that they sold theirs because they were sick of all the problems & no one being able to fix them.
But I am not going to sell the car to someone else to have to deal with all of its problems. Karma is Karma. And unlike Holden I have a conscience.

Things that need to be repaired:

1. Roof stopping 15 cm from top when opening.
2. Roof stopping on closing
3. Roof, after closing roof, windows will not go up & starts beeping & ticking sound on passenger side dash
4. Roof, played up on closing, so I restarted it, then when it closed started beeping, turn car on & off, then the aircon & climate control kept flicking in & out & ticking noise from behind dash again. Restarted car, but did not stop problem. I then re-opened & closed the roof & the climate control stayed on.
5. Ran out of oil again at 16000 km, getting Zupps Browns Plains to top up for me 29/12/06. Now advised need new tappet cover gasket.
6. Front bumper lighter than rest of car.
7. Black strips at front keep coming off.
8. Back passenger window now noisy
9. Front drivers door out of alignment with rest of car
10. Driver's door, damaged from new mechanism & motor being replaced, needs to be fixed
11. Wear mark on roof from plate coming lose in compartment.
12. Back roof panel that lifts needs replacing, lining all coming off.
13. Brakes noisy when stopping, sounds like metal to metal.
14. Gears hard to change after driving car for a while
15. Car shudders in the morning
16. Need to check for paint damage from grease coming out of driver's door.
17. Roof motor now noisier after being adjusted.
18. Ignition key would not turn (only happened once).
19. Car creaks when reversing out of driveway (sounds like an old fairlane)
20. Passenger side window catching when opening door.
21. Wiper Blades need replacing, told from car being parked in the sun, but I always have it garaged & undercover parking at work, so this damage was done before I got it.

Things replaced so far:

1 New cruise control
2 Computer
3 Window drivers side motor
4 indow drivers side mechanism
5 Black strips on front getting re-attached permanently
6 Drivers seat squeaking
7 Boot lining re-fitted
8 Ran out of oil at 8000 km
9 Plate screwed back in after damaging roof canvas.

I have contacted ACA & Today Tonight & have other owners willing to appear with me, so if you want to join the band wagon email me.

Thanks, Michelle.

I have also been given the run around by Holden and I have had enough. My brand new Calais Premium V6 encountered its first major problem at just 33klms. My list of issues would not fit on this page. The service from Holden's head office is nothing short of appalling.

Since my problems with my car started in November 2006 I have had 13 fellow workmates all experience similar issues with their new Commodores and you guessed it, Holden are not interested. Customer Service from Holden is a joke. Holden shows total disrespect towards their "Customers" and "Service" is a word that Holden struggles with knowing the meaning of. I wonder just how many other discontented Holden customers are out there that just accept the situation and don't take up their rights to have their problems corrected.

I'm not prepared to have my car off the road for the 5th time in 11 weeks. It's a brand new replacement or a full refund of my purchase price. Michelle, just on ACA & Today Tonight when I suggested to Holden that I was prepared to go to the media they laughed and stated that the shows don't take on individual consumer issues with major corporations. A rather smug reply to say the least. "

Here is another disgruntled Astra convertible owner who is also nice and upset with the lack of Holden’s care factor.

Bought new in 2005 and ever since it has been subject to many problems especially with the boot leaking everytime it rains. My Holden dealer has had six attempts at fixing it and a Holden "field technician" was bought up from Syd/Melb to fix the problem only to report back to Holden that the vehicle was fine and met the specifications and design standards, even though it is still leaking every time it rains.

After lodging a case with Holden and numerous back and forths I am now being told that they are not interested and that there isn’t a problem with the vehicle... kind of strange that this has been attempted to be repaired six times if there was never actually a problem with it in the first place. Even funnier that there are inches of water sloshing around the boot as soon as it rains. Maybe that is also normal... funny how it wasn’t mentioned in the brochure.

If there is still the possibility of getting on one of the current affair shows or forming a class action then I would certainly be interested in looking at joining in.

After eight Holdens this will definitely be my last purchase from such an uncaring and unsupportive company.

My 2002 diesel automatic Jackaroo has been great for 160,000ks. In the last couple of weeks it now will not change gears properly when I get to a hill. If I am on 90kph it will just drop back to 65-70 and does not seem to want to change gears to get up the hill.

I took it to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong with it, though only tested it on the flat apparently, so I have just kept driving it and don't attempt to overtake on hills as I have no power. Not sure what to do now. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi Jackie, my father had a similar problem with his Jack ages ago. I managed to try accelerating beside a concrete wall and heard a whistling sound which turned out to be a leak in the turbo pipe that goes to the engine. Because the engine was not getting enough boost it performed poorly and the transmission shifting was horrible. Hope this helps.

KIA CARNIVAL  2001:  RE: DIED WITHOUT WARNING (OIL AND WATER DONT MIX!)     *REPLY*

31/07/2008

ISSUE:
ENGINE

Hi Rebecca

I'm currently starting a register of Carnival owners, this is the first step to any action against Kia and ATECO. The solicitor I have seen has set out the course of action. He has stated that any action should start with a letter of complaint to Kia. Once Kia have knocked you back then you need to give Fair Trading a chance. All letters sent and received are to be retained and registered. Final step is to take complaint to the State Minister for Fair Trading. When this fails, we are off to the courts.

But before this can happen we need this register of owners.

If anyone wishes to join the register please reply to this entry. You only need to reply with a yes, I will then send you the form to fill out.

Cheers Peter

"KIA CARNIVAL LS 2001: DIED WITHOUT WARNING (OIL AND WATER DON'T MIX!) - I am very keen to be involved in any class action that may be underway against KIA motors in relation to the obvious problems thousands of unsuspecting Aussies are experiencing with the so called economical people mover!

When hearing a slighting ticking sound on Friday afternoon we opened the bonnet to find that oil mixed with water was pouring out of the coolant bottle. I called out mechanic and told him of the problem and he said I can tell you now from experience with KIAs of the same model you need a new motor!

I was dumbfounded to say the least as the vehicle didn't even give us any warning - the temperature gauge didn't budge from what it normally sits on!

The mechanic came back to me with a price for a reconditioned motor yesterday which fitted would cost $7500.

We purchased the vehicle from a reputable dealer in 2003 prior to our twin boys being born and it had 19000kms. We have always got it serviced on time at the same mechanic and also carried out regular checks of all fluid levels, etc. We have never experienced any problems until now - and feel completely cheated, not to mention anxious in regards to the potential cost we are facing to repair the vehicle. It has only been four days since the car has been off the road and already it is having an impact on our family not having this vehicle.

If anyone of the thousands of people out there that have been affected the same way by this piece of KIA **** can give me some advice I would be very very grateful.

Rebecca"

It's about time Kia Australia came to the aid of the party. They know all too well they introduced a dud engine in their Carnival (funny that, because the name carnival brings to mind fun, but for these poor Aussie punters it's a **** horror show) and they have to help those Australian citizens that have blindly put their trust in the Kia product.

Rebecca

Sorry to hear your story. I suspect your failure is a result of a classic fault with all KIA engines where the cylinder liners slip/move allowing the ingress of oil to mix with the engine coolant forming a messy sludge in the coolant system that can cause overheating in some cases although the majority of vehicle / engine failures show no signs of overheating prior to failure.

Reply back to me & I will forward some info that may assist. You need to also do the following.

Go into much more detail on your story you can't put down too much, detail everything & then re post these revised details back on this website, doing this keeps everyone more informed (KM's when bought, who from, has KIA knocked you back etc, Oil in Coolant? water in oil, etc etc.)

1) Lodge a formal request via your local KIA dealer for KIA to repair the vehicle at their cost. (Insist they lodge a request with KIA to repair the vehicle at KIA's Cost. they will try & fob you off that you are wasting your time etc)
2) Lodge a formal complaint with NSW fair trading.
3) Never believe anything KIA will tell you (They will misrepresent the truth)
4) Do everything in writing & politely request everyone confirm their answers / replies to you in writing.
5) Rest assured you are not on your own there are thousands before you that have been through this & unfortunately there will be many more.

I purchased a Kia Carnival in 2003, build date 09/2002. It has blown a head gasket. Local Kia dealer lodged a report but Kia knocked it back. I have been advised by Fair Trading to write to Kia Head Office requesting them to reconsider their decision and have been given a Fair Trading complaint form to fill in. Fair Trading have advised to definitely pursue and not to give up.

I have an Astra Classic 2004, bought second hand at 40,000kms. At 70,000km the warranty ran out. The back electric windows failed, did not get a price to fix it, refuse to. The water pump packed it in, and the timing belt had to come off to fix it so I was up for new timing belt because it was near due, $900 dollars. Blinker on the left hand side stop working at 65,000kms, and it’s not a bulb, refuse to fix. I was told by the mechanic the front brakes, rotors need replacing soon. If I spent my money on all the fault this car has I would not have any money. I would say my car is unroadworthy so look out.

NISSAN NAVARA STX D40 2006:  REALLY BAD ENGINE KNOCK WHEN COLD UNDER MILD ACCELERATION    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

31/07/2008

ISSUE:
ACCELERATOR

I bought this STX with 56,000km on the clock. The turbo was noisy on purchase and they assured me it was fine and all was good till 3 months later and I could hear a knock in the engine. Nissan said it was an egr valve and carried out tests. I had to wait for a new egr valve and that took 10-15 days to get here and to top things off they would not give the ute back as it had a Very Noisy Turbo and We Can’t Let It Go, well duuuhh I had been saying this noise had been there since I had purchased it.

Things got worse no turbo gaskets in stock and all during my Xmas/new year break, to say I was a tad miffed was an understatement. The ute has been numerous times now and the knock is proving to be very elusive. I do feel that the technician is trying his best to resolve the problem but he can only do what Nissan allows him to do. So if anyone has got an engine knock when cold, under mild acceleration, between 1500rpm-2800rpm let me know.

I have been told on a different site that it’s pretty normal and something to do with the fuel in the cold weather and not to worry about it. I will question it when I put it in for its 10,000 km service. Please email me with any other good or bad points if you wish. Thanks.

Yeah they make a predetonation noise as most common rails will, but the noise I have is a knock or clacking sound... you would almost swear it has a gudgeon or bottom end fault. I had the engine oil sampled tested at its last service just to pick up on any undue metal wear in the oil, its shows normal... at this stage.

I’ll run it on a dyno and see if it will fault with the injection specialists. Time will tell as they say.

Hi all,

You will find it is fairly normal. My 3.0l Patrol is the same. Both Patrols I have had are noisy when cold. Once they are warm it goes away. I work at Mazda as well and the BT50 diesels are the same. When cold they are noisier.

Could be a thing with hi tech diesels...

Don’t let it worry you and enjoy the ute.

I have never posted here and didn’t think I ever would until I read this post. I own a 06 D40 2.5 diesel and have the exact same noise when the engine is cold. 'Really bad engine knock when cold under mild acceleration' would have to be an understatement.

Under light acceleration when cold it makes a very loud knocking (or ticking) sound when cold same as described in the previous post above. At first I thought the engine was going to blow up. I headed home and change the oil and filter just in case there was something wrong there but as you know it there was not. Months passed and no noise until the colder night temps started. Every day now it makes the noise. Took it to one dealer and they said if there is no code found in the ECU what can we do! So it was booked in with them but not for an overnight stay and of course no noise or fault was found. Once warmed up it almost disappears but because you know there is a knock there you still listen for it and it’s there but nowhere as bad as when the engine is cold.

3 weeks on I took it to another dealer, left it overnight and when I turned up the next morning to road test it with them, this is what I was told: "we will not look at your vehicle" *** why I asked and was very quickly told that because you have LPG on your vehicle we wash our hands of it, Good bye... Now what?

When I got home not satisfied with the reply I was told I phoned Nissan Melbourne. and was told this: make sure that the LPG is not connected to the engine when you take it to a dealer as some dealers take the attitude of washing their hand of far too often. Some what gob smacked you would say with a comment like that coming from head office at Nissan.

I'm going to remove the Gas supply from the engine and book it in again with the dealer that at least had a look at it before the other dealer’s drama.

Have any of you had the issue resolved with your engine noise?
POSTED BY: MARTIN R - SYDNEY, NSW - AUS 19 JUN 2009

I have a 06 D40 2.5 Auto with what is sounding like exactly the same issue. It only occurred on very cold (for Qld) mornings so I recorded it as it is only there for the first 1-2km until the warmed up and low RPM and I knew Nissan wouldn't think it was real.

Just had 80000km service and not surprised Nissan won't look at it until it can be replicated.

Think what I will do is get an independent mechanic to look at it and write up a report and send that direct to the service manager rather than deal direct.

I'll let you know if I have any joy.

Hi,

I have had my Landrover Freelander 1.8 for 9 years. It is only my weekend car which has only clocked 80,000 kilometres on it.

I have had to repair the head gasket twice on this car, and just now my timing belt just broke and the valves are bent. I wonder how much that is going to cost me?

I just got online to do a little research and was horrified to hear and see so many complaints about this car. Is this a manufacture fault? As I service this car 3 times a year and as you can see from the kilometres hardly use it.

Does anyone know who to contact about this?

When starting from cold the snow light not only remains but blinks. However, if you switch off the engine and restart it goes off. There is severe loss of power when the light blinks. I do not know what can cause this. I only had a new radiator put in about 2 months ago.

If you are lucky to have found the solution please let me know. I am in Adelaide too. It must be Adelaide weather...

"HOLDEN BARINA 1994: SNOW MODE - HOLDEN BARINAS - EURO MODELS - Hi I have just purchased an end 1994 Holden Barina (5 door hatch auto). I was warned by the dealer not to ever put it into 'snow mode' (the S symbol on the t-bar) as it would ruin the engine. I've also noticed now after a couple of mornings - that the car needs to have at least a 5 minute warm up before taking off - otherwise it goes straight into snow mode (can't get it going unless in 2nd gear), and have to basically stop the car, switch it off and on again and wait a couple of more minutes.

Has anyone else got one of these models? The car itself so far seems to be great and well looked after - but have never come across 'snow mode' before in any other car that I have had - so find it all a bit confusing!

Cheers, Meagan"

Hi. The problem you are experiencing might be caused by a worn, or faulty, Inhibitor Switch on the transmission. If the switch sends an incorrect signal to the control module, the transmission goes into "limp Mode" and starts off in 3rd gear. Switching off the ignition and restarting the engine resets the control unit until the fault re-occurs. A Scan Tool able to read the transmission data will verify if the Inhibitor Switch is working correctly.

Hope this helps. PM.

I’m in Brisbane also have the same exact problem, I have a 97 Barina. Very very frustrating. I have to drive the car for minimum 10 or so minutes before stopping and re-starting the car if I want to get rid of it (s mode, stuck in 3rd gear). Can be very dangerous on the road while in this mode. The actual S mode button does not work.

I have been to a Bartons Holden dealership in Woolloongabba and asked if they could look at it while fixing something else. They couldn't tell me anything and did not give me any advice.

I am wanting to take it in to get fixed, but really unsure where/who to take it to - anyone have some advice?

If you find a solution - I would love the help...

I bought my 2002 RAV4 in November of 2006. The check engine light stayed on constantly. I was told it was an O2 sensor and that it would take $300 to fix but that it did not affect the car's performance. In February I received a notice that I should take the vehicle to the dealer to have a recall taken care of, which I did.

The check engine light went off but I started having transmission problems. I took it to the dealer and they charged me $150 to check it out. They said I needed a new computer ($1,300). I then took it to a transmission specialist to check out ($85.00). He said it was not my transmission but the computer (EMC).

I started researching and found out about this problem being not just mine. Being a single mother with two children and on a very tight budget, this is my only transportation, which I do not consider safe until this gets fixed. I was having this shifting problem in a very busy intersection and was very upset with the fact that Toyota would not stand behind their product and fix the EMC at no cost to the consumer.

Just went through exactly the same problem. Our repair bill was just under $8000. I have a five door 2002 RAV4 automatic cruiser.

First the car was slipping in gears. It was not a gradual thing eihter ... it just suddenly failed. Upon inspection the clutches were burnt out. The gear box was repaired and it flamed another box. I had the computer checked by Toyota and an independent specialist and no fault codes etc. indicated a problem. In the end a new computer was put in, problem solved!

Basically the ECU malfunctioned causing the gear box clutches to burn out. The ECU didn't even indicate any fault codes or go into the safe mode like they are suppose to. Gear box had to come out twice and so did the engine. I got a 24 month warranty on repairs ... make sure you do as well. Will be selling **** before that though! I was lucky that the workshop I go through is owned by a friend and was not charged for the engine coming out 2 and a half times

MANY PROBLEMS

Hi,

I'm glad I'm not alone! I've had my 2003 model since new and have had the roof break twice! First time under warranty and now out of warranty the cost is quoted as $2600 minimum. Aside from that the roof is starting to wear in a few places.

Again, Holden are less than helpful and don't care about customer service. They clearly have no confidence in their product. It has totally put me off buying another convertible - never again will I buy Holden after the lack of service.

"HOLDEN ASTRA CONVERTIBLE 2002: WHAT A LEMON! - Where do I start, I purchased my Holden Astra convertible from a local Holden dealership in Petrie Qld, brand new where I had previously purchased other vehicles.

I began to have problems approx. 12 months after purchasing the car. I returned the car to the dealer on a regular, almost weekly basis, to have the car looked at and repaired, but each time I had my brand new car off the road (and sometimes no courtesy vehicle). They could not fault my car and just said it was an "intermittent" problem and sent me on my way.

This continued for the entire time during the 3 year warranty period, and then the dealership could only then fault with my car when the warranty had expired, giving me with a quote for over $23,000 just for some of the parts that it would require.

Just today, when I was attempting to remove my roof, as all convertibles should be able to do every time (which is why one buys a convertible!) - only to have the roof spurt hydraulic oil throughout the entire car & staining the leather upholstery. The roof then was left half open and undrivable where it will remain until I can have it towed to a dealer to be repaired.

Previously, I have had to have the roof replaced as it had worn many holes through the material. The drivers window and electric window motor has been replaced as it broke, and shattered. The door trims replaced many times, brackets in the roof replaced after they have snapped, leather seats have become torn, and the roof itself only works intermittently. The roof will open half way and then come crashing down ONTO the windscreen frame! The glove box is broken, windscreen wipers and windscreen trim are broken, ignition barrel is not working properly and I need to put a pen into it to be able to remove the key as well as many other faults.

I have contacted Holden head office and their response was "IT IS NOT OUR PROBLEM"!

I am looking for any others who are experiencing similar problems with their Holden Astra convertibles.

I would advise any one who is looking at purchasing this particular type of car, to seriously reconsider PRIOR to purchase. Please feel free to contact me via email if you wish to discuss these & many other faults with my "LEMON" Holden Astra convertible.

Look forward to your response. Madonna Grace"

Hi, just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one that is having problems with their Astra Convertible.

I got my Astra in June 2004 and since then I have had my short engine replaced due to excessive oil usage. My roof keeps on playing up, I have had it back to the dealer for them to try and fix it, and they have replaced this and that, and the air con still plays up to this day. I have also ringed Holden customer service and they really couldn't help me, I know that my dealer is trying to do all they can, but this is beyond a joke. I have and I will again send a search in the paper for other Astra convertible owners that have had problems with their cars. "

I have told Paul Wakeling Campbelltown that there Will Not be a 4th engine put into the car. They told us they have put a "Higher Grade Oil" in the car this time & that should take care of the problem. Time will tell ...

Hi guys,

I've also had a little laugh, as my parents own a Holden Astra 2003 convertible turbo. Every problem mentioned above is exactly what has happened to theirs. Within 12months the engine blew up alongside many other problems such as the turbo "cracking". We have been through hell and back with this car and Holden still defend themselves as we bring it back every few months with a problem re-occurring.

Problems with the air-con have been non-stop and just yesterday the hose that has something to do with the air con has snapped and is leaking. I don’t understand how one car can have so many problems!

Something needs to be done about Holden’s attitude, as there is much more than just one person having problems with these cars!

I have a 05 VZ S ute, does exact same thing at idle in drive. When the aircon is on and rpm is increased by the computer a fraction it is smooth. In response to another poster my previous ride was a VS Ecotech which was far smoother at idle. Anyhow took the car to Holden and they suggested a software upgrade.

Haven't had time to take it back to have this done but the tech wasn't very convinced that this was going to work and told me he had noticed this on other alloytech's. Looking for information hasn’t been easy. I think most people don’t even realise that the rocking that the car is doing is coming from the engine.

"HOLDEN COMMODORE VZ LUMINA 2005: ENGINE MISSFIRE AT IDLE - DONT BUY ONE - I recently bought a 2005 VZ Lumina (99000km) from Bunbury Holden. When I picked the car up I noticed it had an engine miss at idle. The salesman suggested taking it to the service department and it will be sorted out. A Technician from the service department had a look and agreed there is a definite problem (which is only when idling) and had it booked in to have a closer look.

Since then it has been in a few times to have spark plugs changed, ECU and other components checked but still the problem persists. Apparently they have spoken to the technical team at Holden and they could not help either.

The manager is now saying that it is a normal characteristic for the engine and there is nothing else Holden can do. He checked another VZ in the yard and tried to tell me it had the same issue. I started it and it ran fine and have driven other VZ's and not had a problem.

Along with some poor customer service (not returning calls etc) the certified warranty does not seem to be worth the paper it is written on. I am an avid HSV and HRT fan but unfortunately this will probably be the last Commodore I buy.

Has anyone else got a similar problem with their VZ which may have been repaired? I can live with the harsh gear changes and other noises that it makes which I have read from other forums but I cannot understand how they can call this normal. My old VN Commodore idled smoother than this!"

Well, if your VN idled smoother than this VZ, you really do have a problem. Sounds to me like you might have a vacuum leak somewhere if you only notice it at idle. Get a good mechanic to take a look.

I second the suggestion of a vacuum leak. A spray bottle full of water aimed at various areas of the inlet manifold may help to locate the problem. A change in revs will be noticed if you hit the right spot. This is assuming they have done a compression test, early valve leakage can show up as a rough idle for some time before it affects the higher RPM range(I have seen this in younger engines than yours). Leaky or partially blocked injectors can also show the same symptoms.
Hope this helps.

Gday mate. I am chasing the same problem with one of the cars I have in my workshop. A VT Commodore I serviced with a miss which feels like a coil! The miss is more evident in drive and it's not a constant miss. When you experience it, it makes you think it's the coil. All I did in the service was plugs, fuel filter, and oil and filter. The only thing I did do wrong was mix up 2 leads which was a stupid mistake.

Since the service I've been chasing this problem by replacing all the leads in case I'd cracked a plug, replaced all leads, tried 3 brand spanker coil packs, o2 sensors, scanned it for codes and nothing comes up. Soon after the service I was chasing this problem and gave it a tk test for the head gasket and it was positive. We did the head, had them serviced and all, put them back on and the miss is still there.

I am out of ideas and curious as to why it's doing it. We had the same problem with another VT Commodore wagon. Same type of miss. Car drove fine once you were driving. Wouldn't notice a thing. So if anyone could shed some light on this you'd be a great help!

Cheers. Morgan

Hi Melanie, I own a 2002 Holden Barina and was wondering if you found out what the problem is? I ask this because I too have the exact same problems. Mine have only arisen after I took it to Goodyear auto servicing for my 60000km service. This service as you probably know is the main one where you have to replace your timing belt and leads, plugs etc. My car had absolutely no problems in the past. I have owned my car for 3 years and not one problem.

As I went to drive away from the servicer I put my car in drive and the engine cut out. I had them in there checking my car from top to bottom. He said it was my battery and then moved on to saying that my car had a misfire, now its the coil pack and my car is making a shocking tapping noise coming out from the engine where the timing belt is located. If you have any ideas for rectification please let me know because I too am up the creek without a paddle.

"HOLDEN BARINA 2001: HOLDEN BARINA ENGINE TROUBLES - Purchased my Barina in 2004, my first car. Has been no worries besides the odd small fixing up until recently.

Engine light has been on for quite some time, took it to Holden back in 2006 (I think) to find the problem was the EGR valve but would not be causing any damage and was not an urgent thing needing to be fixed. So I continued on driving my car with no problems whatsoever. Until recently the car began to run very rough, whole car shaking when stopped at intersections, car was idling at approx 600 revs or lower. When driving at speeds of 55 or above, engine light would flash until I took my foot off the accelerator and slowed to below 55.

Took it to my mechanic who put it on the scanner, came up Coil pack. Had this replaced and EGR valve cleaned (as from previous experience, if cleaned, EGR valve often worked fine). Neither fixed the problem so had the EGR valve replaced. At a cost of $1200 for both parts, I expected the car to run smoothly. This was not the case, as the same problems continued to persist.

I was then informed that the computer system in my engine needed to be upgraded to run with the new EGR valve. Had this completed at my local Holden dealer. Still no avail. Took it back to Holden to be informed the coil pack "must be faulty". So returned to my usual mechanic who tested another coil pack and had the same problems. Therefore can't be the coil pack.

After $1200 and a couple of months worth of **** running car and constant trips to both my mechanic and Holden dealer, I find myself no closer to a solution or any better off with my car then I was previously. I have now been informed that it may be a wiring or computer problem and have to return to my Holden dealer for more work.

I find this most frustrating as I have spent money to rectify the problem with no progress made and now I will have to spend even more money because as we all know, Holden like to bleed as much money out of us as possible. I also have problems with the car cutting out, when coming to an intersection I put my foot on the clutch and the other on the break, all lights come on, if I don't quickly push the accelerator a number of times the car will cut out."

Hi Melanie,

I cannot offer you any mechanical advice but boy do I feel your frustration. Not sure if you have seen my post about 2002 Astra SRI but sounds very similar to your problems.

Have just spoken to RAA and they advise me to take it to Holden dealer for diagnostic testing. My mechanic that replaced coil was not Holden dealer - RAA inferred that coil wasn't the problem and didn't need changing. I can't say either way but the car is better since it was replaced but has still stopped twice whilst slowing down for red lights.

RAA suggest maybe cam shaft sensor or crank shaft sensor. Maybe some mechanical minds will comment on this.

Good luck, I know that as soon as my car is running smoothly I will be selling it.

The common denominator here is that you took the cars to mechanics who know nothing about GM (Opel) products. Holden just aren't interested in trying to fix other mechanics stuff ups. Samantha, you say your car was fine until some dimwit did the 60,000 KLM service, it sounds fairly obvious that he has not done the cambelt change correctly. Have this checked ASAP.

Most stalling problems are related to the idle air control valve and in the case with 4 cylinder Vectras it was caused initially by incompetent mechanics over filling the sumps with oil. Once the valve was changed and the software updated they ceased to be a problem as long as the services where performed correctly.

I was a little startled as the human being who turned up to open the parts department drove a old beaten up Telstar with smoke steaming out from underneath the bonnet and the exhaust pipe straddled to the car with pantyhose.

As the man got out of the car I noticed the name Peter on his name tag and several empty bottles of Tooheys new long necks smashing onto the ground as he opened the car door, I mean what is this world coming too? I enquired about a GT badge for my car as some young **** had stolen the night before from outside my mansion. Peter explained that I had a 3 page document to fill out before he could order the badge from FPV. I also think that Holden should have some responsibility.

I called the local dealership (Service Dept.) asked them if they had heard of this happening. My wife's 2001 Zafira failed to start and I had it towed to Booran Holden for repairs. The vehicle was bought from Booran Holden (used) had have had it serviced by Booran Holden regularly. They now tell me that the Timing Chain has broken and they are not liable as the vehicle is not under warranty. Holden wants A$ 5,500.00 to fix this.

Reading the reviews, seems as though this is a manufacturer’s defect, but they say they are not liable. With other cars, timing chains need replacement with the 100,000 km service, but not with the Zafira which is strange. If they were required to replace this during the 100,000 service I won't be in this situation. I think Holden should take some responsibility and do the right thing.

I checked the government website and found no recalls had been made in Australia for this problem.

We can’t afford to have it fixed. Where do we go from here? Sell the car as ****? What have you done with your car?

HOLDEN ASTRA CONVERTIBLE 2005:  RE: LATEST UPDATE ON MY PIECE OF ****     *REPLY*

29/07/2008

ISSUE:
MANY PROBLEMS

It is amazing to read how many problems these lemons are giving people. My fiancée owns a 2005 Astra Convertible and has the car back to the dealers over ten times in just the last couple of months over problems with the roof not going down. Other problems include the radio packing up, the air con not turning off when the car is turned off, indicators not working and the seat upholstery splitting after just 46,000 kms of use.

Have just e-mailed Today Tonight and was just wondering if you got any response from them when you did so.

Cheers
Steve

Stay away from the new Astra Twin Top as well, they are also a piece of ****

Roof does not work
Parts fall out of it
Cannot use remote to open roof
Remote does not open doors all the time
Engine fixed at 3000 km
Told PIR report pending on it, start of product recall
Rood out of alignment, so I get wind noise & creaking

Hate It Hate It

I have had people stop me who own one & ask me if I have had problems with mine as they are sick of theirs as well. Dealer told me everyone they have sold has come back in with roof problems.

KIA CARNIVAL LS 2001:  DIED WITHOUT WARNING (OIL AND WATER DON'T MIX!)    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

29/07/2008

ISSUE:
ENGINE

I am very keen to be involved in any class action that may be underway against KIA motors in relation to the obvious problems thousands of unsuspecting Aussies are experiencing with the so called economical people mover!

Regards
Rebecca

It's about time Kia Australia came to the aid of the party. They know all too well they introduced a dud engine in their Carnival (funny that, because the name carnival brings to mind fun, but for these poor Aussie punters it's a **** horror show) and they have to help those Australian citizens that have blindly put their trust in the Kia product.

Kia, Help Australians, and become a good corporate citizen and not a shyster.

"KIA CARNIVAL 2002: CAN ANOTHER ENGINE BE USED? - I am shocked that there are so many others that I have now joined in the Kia Carnival failures. I was told to stay away from the earlier models but the 2002 should be alright - Wrong.

So can anyone tell me if another motor can be put in to replace the Kia motor?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Fitting another engine would be too costly. Hoses, wiring, mounts, adapting the transmission, computers etc would make it unrealistic to consider.

Sorry to hear about your woes,
Mark.
