NISSAN NAVARA D21 1996:  WHAT SIZE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON A 1996 NISSAN NAVARA    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

30/06/2008

ISSUE:
BRAKES

My youngest son, an apprentice has just purchased an unregistered 1996 Nissan Navara. Took it in to a "GT" automotive in Inala for a RWC. They have come back saying things like, undersized front rotors, too low, no wiper motor plates?, plastic in back of Cab. Upon enquiry told us stereo speakers are mounted in rear wall is a firewall problem?
Can we get some helpful advice?

Hiya John. Just wanted to try and help you out. The front brake disc rotors are undersize. They have a minimum thickness, once they wear past that gauge they must be replaced. I’m guessing that the wiper plates are meant to be wiper blades? and the back of the cab isn’t allowed to have holes in it. They must be repaired before any RWC can be obtained. Hope that helps a bit.

VOLKSWAGEN GTI  2008:  RE: ROCKER ARM BROKE OFF AND FELL IN CAMSHAFT     *REPLY*

ENGINE

Josh,

I would go to the dealer and retrieve the broken rocker arm so that you have it in Your possession so that you have the option of getting third party opinion. They won't have thrown it out but equally won't want to hand it over to you. If they refuse, just ask them why they still want it since they seem to have already made their decision in rejecting your warranty claim. If you are up for thousands then sending it to a metallurgy lab for an opinion might be a good investment, but I wouldn't tell them that.

"VOLKSWAGEN GTI 2008: ROCKER ARM BROKE OFF AND FELL IN CAMSHAFT - Help! My brand new GTI of 2 weeks developed a ticking sound.

I took it to the dealer and he says I must have revved it past the redline and decelerated incorrectly so the rocker arm broke off and fell into the camshaft doing major damage. He says it is NOT under warranty. He says it could have happened as a mistake if I went from 5th gear to 2nd instead of 4th. Hey I don't remember it and you'd think it would make a heck of a sound if it happened as suddenly as he says.

It's been in the shop a month waiting for parts from Germany and they say it will cost me between $1500 - $2000 for repairs. Anybody else hear of any other problems with rocker arms? or problems decelerating? anythink related? Is this a defect in design? I am an experienced driver and nothing like this has ever happened to me before."

Josh,
I think you are being fed lies by the dealership. I would have thought that these cars would have a rev limiter installed so that it can’t be over revved. If you heard a ticking noise before it went bang, then that would indicate that something was loose. I'd be fighting it all the way. Send an email to VW in Germany expressing your dissatisfaction and disappointment with the car and the dealership.

Good Luck,
Mark

In the problem with the GTI and the broken rocker-arm. The dealership myself and Volkswagon all ended up splitting 1/3 of the total cost. They said they wouldnt cover it if it ever happened again, but it was suspicious that they covered it this time(mostly at least). Maybe it was because i wouldnt give up on the matter and continued to harrass them. Either way, cars running good as new and it ended up costing me a little over a grand. Thanks

Don't Listen to the **** what they are spilling out, it’s under warranty. They have limiters in place to stop this. Take them to court! Don’t take any **** off them. I have a GTi and it does not have a limiter on it. Took it to 245, not had one problem with it. Goes like a dream and no speaker noises as people complain about. Don’t stop go further.

KIA CARNIVAL LS 2001:  ENGINE FAILURE.    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

30/06/2008

ISSUE:
ENGINE

Please help!

I own a second hand Kia Carnival 2001 LS and have been told I need a new engine. It has done 83,000kms and I have had it for just over three years. I have four children and we are a very sporty family. I volunteer my services a lot but it has been hard with no vehicle. A Kia dealer said it would cost between 6,000-9,000 to have the engine replaced. I am not prepared to pay when I now know it was a manufacturer fault with Kia engines, it was bound to happen! And who has that type of spare cash lying around for engine failure!

I would appreciate any help,

Naiomi Anderson.

Hi Naiomi,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Please refer to threads 8/11/07 by D.M., 19/6/08 by P.H. and 26/6/08 by K.T. We would be interested in the head gaskets fitted - single steel sheet or multi layer - should be the former unless you have already had an engine replacement. Information in the threads should assist and RTA can also track engine change and registration change by VIN Number. If you have the original engine I assume it is a manual transmission - Please advise.

Can you also advise reason for failure - oil in coolant observed in neck of radiator, coolant in oil in sump - sludge, loss of coolant from overflow bottle or engine seizure due to radiator blocked with emulsified oil.

Hope to hear how you progress soon but you must fight and follow it through if you don't want to be $5000-00 out of pocket.

Let us know if we can help further.

Regards, Kerry T

Reply back to me & I will forward some info that may assist. You need to do the following.

Go into more detail on your story you can't put down too much detail everything (KM's when bought, who from, has KIA knocked you back etc, Oil in Coolant? etc etc)

1) Lodge a formal request via your local KIA dealer for KIA to repair the vehicle at their cost. (Insist they lodge a request with KIA to repair the vehicle at KIA's Cost. they will try & fob you off that you are wasting your time etc)
2) Lodge a formal complaint with VIC fair trading.
3) Never believe anything KIA will tell you (They will misrepresent the truth)
4) Do everything in writing & politely request everyone confirm their answers / replies to you in writing.
5) Rest assured you are not on your own there are thousands before you that have been through this & unfortunately there will be many more.

DRIVETRAIN

Rear coupling is another achilles heel on these **** however all is not lost! Replacement couplings are available (just the coupling not the complete assembly) from a Renault / Peugeot specialist on James Ruse Drive, Granville (Sydney) just after passing under the motorway & before reaching Parramatta Rd heading south. The part was around $360 all up & took me 1.5 hrs to fit.

Window winder mechanisms are available on an exchange basis from a Moorebank (Sydney) company that sells power window parts for all types of vehicles at around $260 per window.

Fuel pump (in Tank) new electrical pump motor can be sourced for around $100 each.
Steering rack ends are also available but there are 2 brands of power steer racks fitted to these monsters which must be identified prior to ordering new rack ends. Depending on which one from around $300 per side.

All the above parts have been changed on my RX4 at less than half of Renault Australia current pricing.

Such a shame as they are comfortable, handle well, versatile & economical.

I've been running gas cars for over 20 years now and never had a problem like you are experiencing. There are different amounts of propane to butane served up as LPG from different suppliers and you will experience slight performance differences between fills. I'd be contacting Shell and let them know what you've experienced and what the RACV patrolman said. Keep all receipts and get everything you have done in writing from the repairer just in case Shell have a problem.
Post your outcome on this site.

It sounds like you might be overfilling the tank. The canister is meant to absorb the fumes from the tank, not raw fuel. If the new canister is wet, then fuel rather than fumes is in it. The most common cause is overfilling the tank.

Just a suggestion... Put everything in writing to your dealer at the earliest opportunity & ensure that you get them to sign a copy, acknowledging that they received your list of problems. This will drastically increase your negotiating position, as they know you mean business.

P.S. Not that I have personally had to but if I was aggrieved enough, I’d spend a couple of Saturdays out the front of the yard dissuading prospective buyers. Hit them where it hurts... The hip pocket!

Had the same problem with my VY V6 Commy. The wife and I were out shopping next minute it started running rough, missing. I swore it had dropped a plug so to speak. Managed to make it to a dealership (Holden of course) and the fellow at the service desk relieved me of $125.00 absolutely convinced me it was a plug lead.

I hobbled home changed plugs and leads but still missing badly. I then went to our local mechanic who swapped the coil pack over with one which he knew was a good one and it turned out to be the ignition module faulty. It sits directly underneath the three coil packs. The ignition module he put in my VY was actually out of a VS as they are the same. He told me you can buy a Generic module but really why would you. It is very simple to check if it is your coil pack thru a system of elimination as each coil pack fires two cylinders.

Mate I hope this helps you out in some way. By the way the new genuine ignition module I bought was $325.00. I then went a bought another module complete with coil pack (wreckers) and wrapped it in bubble rap and kept it under the seat just in case it went again out in the middle of nowhere. Even though I had my car serviced every 15000km by Holden and plugs changed, because of the resistance in the plug leads due to natural ageing, heat etc they to contributed to the Ignition module throwing in the towel.

Cheers

Sounds like damper clutch shudder, this happens on light throttle depression when the torque converter locks up. Feels like driving over a cattle grid in severe cases. When you put your foot down the torque converter lock up disengages. This can be fixed by flushing the auto fluid, use good quality sp3 fluid. In some cases the torque converter will need to be replaced.

MANY PROBLEMS

Hi,

If I were you, I would get rid of your lemon Astra straight away. I bought my 2000 Astra 4 years ago and it's had never ending problems. Spent about $5000 in repairs - air conditioning compressor, air conditioning hose, brake pads constantly wearing, brake rotors, timing belt doesn’t last that long, ignition coil, rear water dispenser doesn’t work anymore, headlights cover perspex damaged easily by headlights - just to name a few problems. Everything has needed to be replaced. Every one I know with that model Astra (before the latest model) has had many problems also.

However, with the stereo volume increasing, mine did that too. When you speed up it gets louder. But I think that’s just the type of CD player it is. Some do actually do that. I just replaced head unit with a Pioneer one.

So have a think about owning your Astra for much longer! Keeping it might be the worst decision you will ever make... sorry. Every mechanic (obviously not Holden/Opel) and auto electrician if have spoken to said that they are complete garbage.

Good luck

Ashley.

"HOLDEN ASTRA 1.6 ELEGANCE 2004: I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL I FOUND THIS SITE! - OK, my car is actually an OPEL Astra because I live in France but it's the same as a Holden Astra.

Within days of picking my car up in Oct 2004 I had problems:

1. Stereo volume increasing on its own
2. Clock changing time
3. Most serious the horn sounding On It's Own
Eventually, the steering wheel was changed and those problems went away.

This year I have had more problems:

1. Air conditioning failure
2. Stereo volume increasing again
3. Brake and stop lights permanently on
4. No cruise control (presumably because the brake circuit was open)

Problems 2-4 have been solved but I still have no air con. The car has done 36,000kms (about 24,000 miles) and Opel have quoted me 1000 euros for a new compressor and are refusing to contribute anything towards it. Frankly I can't afford a new compressor!

I thought I was the only one having these problems as Opel won't admit that there is anything wrong with the Astra but, having read your comments, there clearly is. I work nights and I'm terrified that something else is going to go wrong with the car and I'll be stranded somewhere in the middle of the night.

All I get from the dealership is a shrug of the shoulders (typically French!). Is there anything that can be done? Is there an action against GM about these cars? Something we can do?

I feel totally let down. This is supposed to be our main car, reliable and going to go for years! I reckon it won't last another two at this rate! Help!"

Thanks Ashley for your reply. Yes, I'd love to get rid of the car but I'm a bit stuck as it's meant to be our main car (our other one is over 10 years old and not worth anything) and we don't have the resources to replace it.

I've heard this about the stereo volume increasing when you speed up but mine was something else. It would be playing normally and then suddenly blast your eardrums off! There was nothing subtle about it! In fact it almost deafened the last mechanic who looked at it! And I'd even turned the stereo OFF before he was nearly rendered without one of his senses!

I've looked on loads of other forums now and have found the problems we've had are commonplace with GM Astras.

I'm just trying to get something together so that I can take a case to GM France - if they'll listen!

The 2.2 engine is a beauty until it trashes. Timing chain problems. Other models have a timing belt, but same problems! Check out this UK site for British Zafira made by Vauxhall (same engine in ours): z22se.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=22

Some of my blurb from an online forum:

Not broken, but as good as. Hi, I'm a newbie across the water in Australia, Western Victoria. Our lovely 2001, less than 90,000 km, Zafira (eng. no.Z22SETA021837) just spun on the starter motor - pistons whizzing up and down and no nothing else. At least I wasn't on the freeway! Chain tensioner in many pieces but the chain not broken, just really slack. All the little bits in the rocker box had popped out. Head comes off this week to see how much damage. On the face of it this seems to me to be another "one" - but our chain is not broken - the tensioner is. From the VxON site it looks as though the tensioner was known to be faulty and should have been replaced by the manufacturer. I suspect that the chain was either so slack that that the backlash allowed the timing to mash or the chain flipped when I tried to start the car and slipped a few cogs with the well-known aftermath. What say you lot? Also, are there any other Aussies out there who have had to fight this one with The General? I will check as soon as I can whether the oil jet nozzle is blocked. If it is not would this affect my claim? Plainly this engine is well documented for cam chain disasters.

Beautiful car but have to recommend against.

I purchased a new Hyundai Tuscon in Nov 2006. At time of purchase I was told I could expect fuel consumption to be around 8.5 ltr/100kms - H'way driving and 10.5 ltr/100kms - City driving, whilst the marketing brochures etc stated 9.2 ltr/100kms - combined (I could only wish).

From the very first tank of fuel, consumption was 15.0 ltr/100kms (city), which I thought was quiet high and prompted me to keep a detailed record of my fuel economy from that point forward. Fuel consumption has progressively deteriorated and the last 50 ltrs of fuel used I got 15.8 ltr/100kms - city driving (we get better fuel economy from our Holden One Tonner V6 Auto).

I asked the dealership service department to look into the fuel consumption (you couldn't call it economy) at the 7,500km service. The "diagnostic checks" were done and all returned as "no error" and if I wanted to look into it further I had to rebook in for a more detailed check. I did this with the same result. The dealership is now sending off my record of fuel consumption to the manufacturer and I have been advised I should hear back within the next 2-3 weeks.

Will keep you posted.

I have a June 06 Santa Fe Elite - Auto 2.7 L engine.

It has had excellent consumption since new - 10.6 litres per 100km on highway at 100 - 110 kph and 11.9 on very short local "post office & shops" run.

It sound like your computer is sticking fuel flow at the "cold start" cycle all the time - possibly a signal sensor problem from Thermostat.

Keep at them - your consumption is "far from normal" (unless you drive around in first gear - hah hah).

My Service centre is Keema Motors at Cleveland - they are very good and would not let this go unattended.

Hi Dale,

I have a 2004 Carnival and the same thing has just happened to me. Oil was leaking out of the motor and Kia in Bundoora has just rang me to quote $6,000 to $9,000 to replace the motor. I do not have $9000 sitting around waiting for me to have car trouble. I will be getting a second opinion on Monday 30-June-08. Geez Wain
Where do we start. Are you telling us that you were surprised that the motor blew from oil starvation when it hadn't had a service (oil change?) in 25000k. The oil would finally have been like black sludge. Engines need better than this. It's very hard to actually understand exactly what you are trying to tell us with the second case but if the crunch point is that you were 3000k over the service then the dealer is entitled to void your warranty claim. This is quite reasonable because you can't neglect engines and expect someone else to fix them free of charge. Warranties (and life itself) are about mutual obligation.

HOLDEN BARINA  2001:  RE: RADIO     *REPLY*

26/06/2008

ISSUE:
ELECTRICAL

Hey there, I can join the club too! I recently (nearly 2 months ago) bought a 2001 Holden Barina XC, 3 door, from a car yard.

For a week or so it was fine, then, the same as you Richard, I’d turn the car on in the morning and be blasted by loud music, have to turn it down - then it wouldn't go down any further, then when you turn it up it blasted again and then was fine ! This went on for a few weeks and couldn't handle it any longer.

I took my car to an audio specialist, Newcastle Prosound - they had a look at it for me and originally thought it may be the steering wheel controls getting stuck - so they unwired those, unfortunately it continued to happen. They ended up telling me this is a common problem with Holdens.

The solution: you have to get a new stereo/head unit! While it can be costly it'll save you blowing your speakers! (Mine started to crackle from the full bore hits) I ended up buying a nice little Kenwood unit - no more loud bursts!

I still find myself bracing myself for the loud noise though!

It's unfortunate but you might want to look at getting a new one installed - you can get some for under $200 and installation is usually around $80.

In answer to your question about the display up the top - It still provides the date and time and temperature as per usual - the only difference is the radio station/cd track # will appear on the new head unit.

Good luck!

I have a 2000 SB Barina with a Blaupunkt 420 radio/cassette player and I have the same issue. The display is located on top of the dashboard. My volume also comes on at full bore, usually after the car hasn't been used for a while (overnight). If I turn the volume control down (any amount) the volume drops to inaudible. Turning it up makes it go full bore again, so I turn it down once more and then it starts to work fine.

I've had the car since 2005 and it seems to do it more in winter. I was going to replace it but then what would the display do. It would appear somebody else has the same issue: caraudio.manualsonline.com/ex/thread/view/idThread/6498

Hey, Welcome to the club! Cripes its gives you a fright doesn't it. My 2000 Vectra is doing exactly the same thing. I am trying to get in the habit of turning the radio off when I get out of the car and carefully turning it on after having turned the volume down as far as possible before pushing the button on when getting in the car. And as you say the problem isn't there some days.

Also the light behind the radio and section below doesn't work but every now and then for no rhyme or reason it comes on then goes off again. Don't have any clues as to what is happening though so if you find out I would love to know.

Also do you have a problem with the engine dying when under pressure e.g. going up a steep hill (in the shopping centre ramp is especially scarey). I thought it was just when the fuel level was low but it seems to be happening when it has 20 litres showing on the fuel dial now. Regards Jan

TOYOTA RAV4  2001:  RE: TRANSMISSION FAILS ON 6 YEAR OLD CAR     *REPLY*

ISSUE:
TRANSMISSION

I bought my 2002 RAV4 in November of 2006. The check engine light stayed on constantly. I was told it was an O2 sensor and that it would take $300 to fix but that it did not affect the car's performance. In February I received a notice that I should take the vehicle to the dealer to have a recall taken care of, which I did.

The check engine light went off but I started having transmission problems. I took it to the dealer and they charged me $150 to check it out. They said I needed a new computer ($1,300). I then took it to a transmission specialist to check out ($85.00). He said it was not my transmission but the computer (EMC).

I started researching and found out about this problem being not just mine. Being a single mother with two children and on a very tight budget, this is my only transportation, which I do not consider safe until this gets fixed. I was having this shifting problem in a very busy intersection and was very upset with the fact that Toyota would not stand behind their product and fix the EMC at no cost to the consumer.

Just went through exactly the same problem. Our repair bill was just under $8000. I have a five door 2002 RAV4 automatic cruiser.

First the car was slipping in gears. It was not a gradual thing eihter ... it just suddenly failed. Upon inspection the clutches were burnt out. The gear box was repaired and it flamed another box. I had the computer checked by Toyota and an independent specialist and no fault codes etc. indicated a problem. In the end a new computer was put in, problem solved!

Basically the ECU malfunctioned causing the gear box clutches to burn out. The ECU didn't even indicate any fault codes or go into the safe mode like they are suppose to. Gear box had to come out twice and so did the engine. I got a 24 month warranty on repairs ... make sure you do as well. Will be selling **** before that though! I was lucky that the workshop I go through is owned by a friend and was not charged for the engine coming out 2 and a half times

TRANSMISSION

Hi, I have a 2002 Holden Astra which I bought second hand only 2 years ago. My car had a leak underneath and was told by Holden mechanics that it was the rear main seal and that would be $2200 to investigate.

Naturally, I wanted a second opinion and took it to my own trusted mechanic who told me it was the transmission. I had to have my transmission rebuilt which set me back nearly $4000.

After many months fighting with Holden, they offered me the measly sum of $900 but only because my mechanic had used "some" Holden genuine parts because he tried to keep the cost down.

More people need to be made aware of the "no service" policy that Holden seems to have with the public, yeah sure buy a car from us but don't expect anything in return.

Sorry I have no info to assist with your electrical problem.

However as a journalist you may be interested in the story of thousands of motorists around Australia impacted by lack of Gov't action despite laws being there that are not enforced.

I understand the Victorian Minister for consumer protection is trying to introduce "Lemon" laws yet, he has powers now that his department won't enforce only telling consumers to go away & take KIA to courts themselves.

Happy to pass on the data & info collected if you want to write the story?

"KIA CARNIVAL LS 2003: ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH KIA CARNIVAL 2003 MODEL. - Greetings to Everyone.

I am trying to establish the cause and fix to an electrical problem. The car was jump started and as a consequence, the central locking and power windows stopped working. I did the usual checks. I pulled out one particular fuse, not out of any scientific procedure but out of frustration, and the computer reset itself and the problem was fixed.

Took the car to Kia who effectively wasted my time.

I therefore welcome any insight into what caused the problem and if it happens again, what I can do. I'm not convinced that my fix will work next time.

Secondly, in reference to the threads regarding Victorian Consumer Affairs and the ACCC, as a journalist I cannot find any evidence on the effectiveness of either organisations. I believe that when they fail to perform, which appears to be normal business practice, that failure is considered as a "win" as the person making the complaint just gives up knowing it's a lose-lose situation and simply goes away. Much to the car dealer's delight.

I encourage consumers to go to far more professional organisations such as RACV and check with them before any potential sale. Just ask which cars are more likely to end up being towed rather than driven in for repair.

KIA CARNIVAL  2001:  RE: KIA MOTORS PAID FOR MY REPAIRS IN FULL!     *REPLY*

26/06/2008

ISSUE:
ENGINE

Hello Collette,

Sadly, we read of your plight and want to assure you that a great deal of time has been spent gathering information to justify later claims against Kia. You have just joined between 3,000 and 4,000 victims who have had the same experience as yourself and naturally we feel for you. I see that Dale Morris is already assisting on the claim side and this is great advice and the course of action most of us are pursuing - you simply have to fight.

Now to get your vehicle back on the road and look at some options. I have the same model Carnival - 2001 with 60,000 kms and have just been through the hoops. Kia will tell you one thing and then not abide by it. In fact I'm surprised that your engine hasn't failed before this - you must be one of the last. Have you owned the vehicle since new? If not check the engine number. You will need to undo the three small bolts with a socket securing the engine dress cover and remove the cover. The number is to the right just inside the lifting bracket at cylinder 5. Check above the engine number to see if there is a stamp RPM. These are the engine reconditioners who repair the engines for Kia in Melbourne. We want to know of any engines reconditioned to the Kia build specification which have failed because this problem may never go away.

Kia supplied me under goodwill a basic reconditioned short motor, torque to yield cylinder head bolts, cylinder head gaskets, thermostat housing and liquid gasket seal.
They also accepted costs for surface machining the heads if required in cases of severe overheating (not mine) and servicing the radiator. This is costed at around $2,750-00. Unfortunately they charged for radiator hoses, oil seal, oil pump gasket at a cost of around $100-00. If you have over 60,000 kms on the clock you would be wise to replace timing belts (3), serpentine drive belt, plug leads for a 2001 model, spark plugs and water pump at about $700-00. The blue slip, oil, oil filter and coolant will set you back another $100-00. Finally, labour for the complete job was $1,390-00. I was also up for a crankshaft harmonic balance pulley at $201-00 which I suspect was damaged during disassembly. A rattle gun is probably the best option for loosening the pulley securing bolt.

Negotiations and repair time took two months - 4 weeks for repair.

These engines are reconditioned for around $1650-00 by RPM and you may be able to insist upon your engine being reconditioned and returned to your vehicle if engines are in such short supply. It is clearly evident that Kia have failed to establish a standard protocol to deal with a well known problem or developed a logistic support system to adequately support the predictable failure rate of engines. They do not carry a short motor in their parts inventory and acquire them by special order on the factory. Consequently, Carnival owners have been at the mercy of Kia's poor response time since first model engine failures in 2000 and little has changed.

Hopefully this provides you with sufficient information to know what you are up against and avoid some of the horrendous costs I have seen quoted. You may well be able to negotiate a better deal but if not, ensure that you put in writing that you do not accept liability and reserve the right to make a claim at a later date. Letters of claim are already in the system and Peter H is working on some refinement. Mine will be joining them shortly. In the meantime, you need to get your vehicle back on the road.

If we can help further, let us know.

Kerry Tunbridge

Hi, just found this website when I was scanning for the price of a compressor. I just had a quote on the cost today from Col Crawford Motors that it is going to cost me $1800 to fix this problem. This is 11 months after I paid $4,089 to have the engine replaced. KIA did pay the price of the short motor in that deal. Original quote was near $7000 until KIA offered to pay for the short motor.

In 8 years my KIA has still done less than 95,000km. But still so many problems. So when will it end. What can I do to assist in this? I can forward details if required.

Try to provide as much info as possible about your case.
e.g.: car bought new/used when / miles traveled etc etc

You need to do the following.

1) Lodge a formal request via your local KIA dealer for KIA to repair the vehicle at their cost.
2) Lodge a formal complaint with NSW fair trading.
3) Never believe anything KIA will tell you (They will misrepresent the truth)
4) Do everything in writing & politely request everyone confirm their answers / replies to you in writing.
5) Rest assured you are not on your own there are thousands before you that have been through this & unfortunately there will be many more.

FORD COURIER 4.0L V6 2006:  ENGINE MISSING AND LOSES POWER AT LOW REVS, ERRATIC IDLING    *FEEDBACK WANTED*

25/06/2008

ISSUE:
ENGINE

My car was good until 80,000 Km when it went into the local Ford dealer for its service. From then onwards it has erratic idle and starts to misfires and loses power when it is under load for longer than about 15 seconds at low rev's (1500 - 3500rpm). It is in particular frustrating (and also dangerous) to attempt to overtake because you never know if it will maintain power throughout the action. If you keep your foot down while it is misfiring, it normally clears itself about 20 seconds later.

It has now done 110,000 Km and since I started complaining, Ford has replaced the fuel pump unit, the filter, the hi tension leads, the spark plugs, and the electronic engine control module. All the changes has made a slight improvement but it still jerks and misfires often, and the idle is still erratic. It still lacks full power and my fuel consumption has increased drastically since the control module was replaced. The tail pipe also shows a very heavy deposit of black suit like a car running with the choke puller out.

The local Ford service dealer is by now obviously at a lost end because according to their $26,000 workshop test computer there is nothing wrong with the car, although they have experienced the problem themselves during test drives.

Is there any experts in Perth WA on the fuel injection system of these new 4.0L Ford V6 engines which I can take the car to that will be able to fix the problem?
