SEPT 8, 2005: MAXI YACHT ROLEX CUP 2005

NO RACING TODAY IN MAXI YACHT ROLEX CUP; RACING DIVISION RE-SAIL POSTPONED DUE TO POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS

PORTO CERVO, Italy (September 8, 2005) – The racing division joined the other classes in a lay day today on day four of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, as the re-sail of racing division’s race one was postponed due to light wind and heavy fog. Today was a scheduled lay day or re-sail day for the fleet and the Race Committee had planned to re-sail the racing division’s first race from Monday, which was discarded. Racing is scheduled to resume tomorrow. The forecast is for sunny skies and 20- to 25-knot winds.

In other racing division news, the international jury rejected Skandia’s request for redress filed yesterday. Australian owner and helmsman Grant Wharington requested redress after Skandia was scored OCS in yesterday’s race for failing to re-start correctly. The request was ruled invalid for being submitted after the filing deadline had expired.

Tonight, Rolex will host a gala dinner for participants at the Cala di Volpe Hotel. The entertainment will include a concert by internationally acclaimed African singer and musician Youssou N’Dour.
