VICTORIA, 2005
Miniature
motorcycles (‘monkey bikes’)
A miniature motorcycle cannot be used on Victoria roads unless the rider
holds a valid motorcycle licence, and the motorcycle meets registration
standards and is registered.
Motorised
scooters
Petrol powered motorised scooters cannot be used on public roads and
footpaths. Electric powered scooters are legal for use on low speed
public roads (no greater than 50km/h) which have no dividing lines or
median strip and footpaths, provided they:
- have an ungoverned power output of 200 watts or less; and
- have a maximum speed of no more than 10km/h.
The requirements for helmet use, brakes, a bell/horn and front and rear
lights when ridden still apply.
Motorised
recreational equipment
This includes motorised skateboards, roller skates and roller blades.
It is illegal to use motorised versions of these devices on public roads
and footpaths. They may be used on private property only.
Motorised
wheelchairs
People with disabilities and other who rely on the use of powered wheelchairs
will not be affected by these rules.
PENALTIES:
- $112: Unregistered
motorcycle with engine capacity of 60cc or less
- $307: Unregistered
motorcycle with engine capacity of 61cc or more but less than
501cc
- $511: Unlicensed
driving/riding
N.B:
• People
with disabilities and others who rely on the use of electric
powered motorised scooters will not be affected by these laws.
• Scooters require bell/horn and brakes, and
front and rear lights if used at night. Bicycle helmets must be worn
by all scooter riders.
