Eagles
to Swoop on Avalon
Three massive F-15 “Eagles” are
poised to swoop on Avalon during the Australian International Airshow
2005. The
hi-tech trio from the United States’ F-15 West Coast Demonstration
Group, based in Florida, will be flown into the Airshow directly
from their U.S Air Force Base. The aircraft are from a battle-hardened
species of strike aircraft that played a key role in the liberation
of Kuwait.
F-15s,
similar to those coming to Avalon, established undeniable air superiority
during that conflict and flew hundreds of sorties without sustaining
a single loss. Eagles also flew numerous escort missions during
the peacekeeping operations in Kosovo. With its mighty wingspan
and its extraordinary power-to-weight ratio, the F-15 boasts an
outstanding performance capability. The Eagle can reach speeds of
more than Mach 2-point-5 (approx. 2655 kph) and can soar to altitudes
of 60,000 feet. It bristles with the latest weaponry – a 20mm
cannon and almost a tonne of assorted rockets and missiles. The
F-15s promise to provide a spectacular and unforgettable experience
– their spectacular routine will include a series of exhilarating,
simulated, attack maneuvers.
The
Australian International Airshow 2005 will be staged at Avalon Airport
between the 18th and 20th of March. Via its theme The Shape of Things
to Come the Airshow will celebrate the beginning of a new era in
aviation and aerospace technology with a spectacular pageant of
flying displays and tarmac exhibits. Host city Geelong is bracing
for a major visitor influx during the Airshow, as thousands of patrons,
from throughout Australia and indeed the world, seek out the many
and varied tourist treasures the region has to offer. (AUSTRALIAN
